Rome Odunze is the absolute TRUTH but Jalynn Polk was a playmaker on the Huskies that gave me Justin Jefferson vibes to Odunze’s Jamar Chase. Don’t be surprised if Polk is a stud in the NFL. Kid makes clutch plays and BIG TIME catches in traffic.
Polk isn’t really Good at anything. He isn’t bad at anything but he doesnt have anything he’s outright elite at hes got a super high floor which is nice
@@Aburner960Perfect WR3 for a team like the Bengals. They already have Ja’Marr and Tee Higgins, but having a solid WR3 on a rookie contract to replace Boyd would be great for them
@@bobbobson8087 i do agree, however. The bengals already drafted their boyd replacement. Charlie jones Jones is a prototypical white slot wr. Really nice route running and will slot right in when boyd leaves. They also drafted Andrei Iosvoas who is legitimately special to potentially be a tee replacement. Idk how he fell to the bengals so late, if he can develop a route running tree? Hes a legitimate gamebreaking wr1 and he still has a decent floor as well.
Both jj and chase are even in my eyes, two types of WRs. Chase will get u an extra 15 yards per play by running guys over, and secures everything. Jj is a contested and vertical demon. Throw it up anywhere and he will come down with it. 2 types of WRs and both have completely changed their offences
just say you didn’t watch washington football. i love jp an hope he does well in the nfl, but he completely disappeared when jalen mcmillan made his full return to the offense. rome was the undisputed number 1 receiver for two years and was without question THE playmaker.
This class reminds me of when Julio Jones and AJ Green where at the top of everyone's board, knocking receivers all back a peg on boards. Leads to amazing dudes who should have been first rounds talents falling to the 2nd, so on so forth
Don’t forget he suffered a broken rib and punctured lung in week 5 and had to drive home from Arizona because he couldn’t fly, then went for 130 and two tds (including the game winner) against Oregon the next game and played out the rest of the season.
One thing I keep noticing about him other than his physicality and contested catch rate vs man: When he plays vs zone, he seems to just know where he should be. There are a lot of plays where he ends up wide-ass open because he quickly finds the soft spot in the zone. He seems to have all those uncoachable traits mentally that a WR would want
Yeah, oddly enough his comp before the draft for me was Keenan lol I think it's such a perfect fit. Dude is gonna learn in an insane WR room. He's fast but his not going to blow your doors off, he's just going to out maneuver, out smart, and then find the ball.
I think this also says great things about Penix too. There is a ton of arm on display there and ability to read matchups that are putting a great player in position to have an advantage on otherwise contested balls. For all the age and durability commentary out there, it seems like a full third of NFL starters today can't make some of those throws.
The age thing is the dumbest football assessment category of them all. If guys don’t make it to their second contract or have the leeway to actually develop for years if needed, who cares how old they are. They’re going to be judged on whether they can play or not, not how good they are for their age.
@@alod247 Age I def find weird as a primary metric. If the guy is good off the gates coming out at 23-25 and he's a legit franchise altering QB (or even a league altering one) with minimal durability issues, consider that a congrats for the franchise for getting a blue chipper pick. Meanwhile the rest of the franchises are combing for high priced proven vets to fuel the rest of their playmakers or risk playing day 3-4 guys hoping they give a Brock Purdy return in results or something.
That one catch you were talking about when he looked right then turned around and looked left for the ball & caught it in the in zone....🎉 I don't think I seen Marvin Harrison Jr make that adjustment on the fly... That's Very impressive!!!! That is something we only really seen Larry Fitzgerald or DeAndre Hopkins make.
Brett, the first video of yours that I watched was your Film Breakdown of Malik McDowell. It is truly a joy to see you succeeding in this world. Your knowledge and ability to explain the game of football are out of this world and I wish you nothing but continued success and happiness!
This title reminds me of the puns i was reading the week of the USC game. Something like "The Colosseum belongs to Rome" I wish i could remember it word for word.
I get that people like Odunze. There are reasons too. But Nabers is still MY WR2. Odunze just doesn’t separate enough for me . Like you said he had COLLEGE corners consistently draped on him. NFL corners that are used to playing against size will limit the advantage that size presented in college. I think even the guys he gets compared to (Hopkins, Chase) had better footwork in and out of breaks where they created catch point separation. Odunze reminds me more of Courtland Sutton
Do you think Rome is a bust? I have seen people say that Rome odunze is Quentin Johnston and that Troy Franklin is better than Rome . I hope that person is incorrect but I’m not sure what to think about Rome either.
@@Cowgirls9ershater I don’t think he’ll be a bust at all. I think his floor is Geremy Davis. I just think Nabers is clearly the better receiver and, frankly, think people putting Odunze over Nabers are doing too much mental gymnastics. Nabers balled out in the SEC and his style of route running and explosive ability is Justin Jefferson-esqe.
@@KevyWhit Yeah I think he will be a stud but it just depends on what a team wants. Rome has the size advantage. I just don’t get why people are saying he is Quentin Johnston.
The comp is Michael Irvin. Both highly physical, great at tracking the ball, fantastic at catching in traffic. Irvin is HOF, nobody is saying Rome is near that - but he plays like Irvin did, though Irvin was better at getting separation. BTW Rome has run a timed 4.3, but he isn't as quick as some of the WRs in the draft. Rome also has some of the dog in him that Irvin did.
Elite title Brett! I can’t wait to delude myself into thinking the Giants will take Nabers or Odunze at 6, only to take Joe Alt to play RT (Andrew Thomas at LT). Odunze is a baller!
2:45 that’s a skill us outfielders are taught and drill for years in the developmental stages of baseball. That’s why it’s so important to be a cross-sport athlete.
I’m not gonna say first but just wanted to say I love your videos that have to do with evaluating players. Would love a video on JJ McCarthy. I’m a lot higher on him being a Penn State fan because I watched him play. He seems like a more consistent and smarter Daniel Jones. Worth a first round selection. Unlike Jones
I don't understand the Rome hype and nothing encapsulates my thoughts better than your words about separation. NFL corners don't give up much separation. Agreed. Rome can't get consistent separation against Pac 12 CBs. I'm so hype on MHjr, Nabers, Thomas Jr, Ladd, and AD Mitchell but how's Rome going to work out in the NFL if he's always blanketed? DHop is a better route runner and more of an outlier than something I would bet on. It would also take the right QB to throw to leverage consistently to a blanketed WR, so you're asking the QB to do a more difficult job. To me, Rome is more of an early 2 or mid 2 prospect.
Any Giants fans here after Malik and Marvin both were taken before we had a chance to take them? Don’t worry, this guy is a STUD and exactly what we need, size, reliable hands, Route running, experience, prototypical X Wide Receiver
Watching a lot of videos cuz giants have a possibility at all 3 😅 anyone we get I would be happy with tho, I like this guy a lot as well as Nabers and mhj
2:31 Exactly what a centerfield does. Completely different sport but the same technique. Turning away from the ball to readjust is much harder because you lose sight of the ball as opposed turning to the inside, but you don’t lose valuable momentum you might need to make the catch
It’ll be interesting to see if Jim Harbaugh can use what did to stop teams like Ohio State and Washington to stop the Chiefs. Hell that’s probably why the Chargers were so desperate to hire him
Did he though? Odunze still had 82 yards and Penix missed him wide open for a TD. I think most of the credit should go to Michigan's D line for forcing Penix into a bad night throwing the ball.
Will Johnson is so overrated. He held Rome in the end zone which was called, Rome killed him on several routes that weren’t thrown for pressure and Rome killed him on a double route which was caught and on another play which was thrown to the opposite shoulder and wasn’t caught.
Mike Evans was the comp I had in my mind but Hopkins makes a lot of sense when you think about ball tracking and ball skills (not that Evans is bad there). I wish the Hawks had the draft capital or need to go get him but ya I think he'll be a beast in the NFL.
He looks like Drake London. Makes a lot of contested catches in college, great route runner, but not elite speed. Everyone is playing press on him because they aren’t afraid of his speed. To his credit made the tough catches in college, just not sure that can be duplicated at that rate in the NFL.
Can’t wait for these top receiver videos. We don’t get to see these routes because the networks hate us. And I can’t wait for the Malik video yes he does melt your face off. Got dammit if only they had a defense
Love the title. Is it maybe an idea to name some teams which would be ideal fits to these players? I can imagine for Rome that a place like Buffalo or KC is ideal but maybe some of the more unexpected teams which would be ideal for these guys?
