It works on so many levels ^_^ Part of me wonders if they named her character Blanche just because they had this joke constantly tee'd up and ready to go
In real life, Betty White was an animal lover and animal rights activist. It's apparent in episodes with animals where she talks to them that her love enthusiasm is genuine.

After Blanche winces from saying "shrimp" that was laugh out loud funny... but right afterwards, the look on Dorothy's face as she reluctantly whimpers "short ribs" totally destroyed me
We actually do have something of a butter queen in Minnesota. Every year one young woman who wins a pageant gets a carving of her made of butter at the state fair. Except she’s not called butter queen…she’s called the Princess Kay of the Milky Way.
Blanche had so many tear jerking moments in this show- the dream where she gets to hug George, reconciling with her daughter and showing up when she’s in labor, her struggle with depression while going through menopause and she looks in the mirror in the dr’s office, burying Big Daddy and her scene in the graveyard.. Great moments.
Out of everyone, Blanche was the most flawed character. Vain, spoiled and selfish, but a good heart beneath it all. So the moments she has to come to terms with life is heart-wrenching, and a beautiful look into the better side of her. :)
I have probably watched the episode "Mrs. George Devereoux" more than twice but every time during the scene when Blanche gets to hug George then wakes up, I always end up shedding some tears.
Blanche tended to get the most dramatic and emotional storylines. Betty and Rue were iconic comediennes, but my feeling is that Rue was the better actress.
How did they do scenes like “Pfeiffer” without just bursting out laughing 😂 I mean I can imagine how many takes it must’ve taken cause that whole scene is comedic gold

I just marvel at how BEAUTIFUL and glamorous these ladies were in their late 50's and 60's. It's possible these ladies pioneered the way for many to realize you can still look gorgeous at any age. The wardrobe director had it going on as well back then. Many of the outfits in the series were classic and tailored enough to "never go out of style". The writers were genius at times....the cast well selected. It's no wonder the series was so popular.
I like the amount of contrabutions a show has to have for people to tolerate it as applying to modern day. The point isn't for it to be timeless, and clothing that is fucking great doesn't go out of style, it's just the style that meets to much progressive modernists and gets dumber each time with ridiculous new concepts, leaving perfect outfits behind in the past that should have never stopped being fashion. Although all these outfits in this show are hardly ever worn today...we went out of style...mother's today could never wear these outfits and look a margin as elegant as these Estelle, Betty, Rue, and Bea were and constantly could be. It's like comparing Doris Day to Emma stone, both gorgeous, however talents routing from different lifestyles and sorroundings. One felt like a star, the other some human interaction type nonsense like we need to consider that a star is relative before we can like them when those people don't even know them. I swear most comments here are just fawning over their entitlement in current day, like everything has to reach the level of 2022... "Ahead of its time", "so progressive" (same thing) etc etc I'd think of more but I have to find the comments that say it because I wouldn't think that way. It would be fine if they said "very futuristic" which doesn't necessarily apply to today no doubt a better future, but these people flat out say ahead for """its time" clearly nodding at their lack of belief that anything good came out of that era. It's so fucking disrespectful when they have never known the era they speak about, yet are so sure middle aged women being youthful and beautiful wasn't ever done, aside from every movie since the 1920's where the aunt or mother is drop jaw gorgeous in her 50's and 60's. We need to eliminate such an nonunderstanding phrase that is "ahead of it's time". You know what would be ahead of it's time, goerge washington writing the qoute "why come ye to such a miftake" as "why come you to such a mistake".
One of my favorite lines is the episode where the Girls all want to act with the locally famous theater director and have to compete with each other for the spot. When they all excitedly meet him at the theater, Blanche wants to make it clear in front of everyone that she has had the most experience "performing" at the theater, and then Dorothy calmly fires back with, "Blanche, the parking lot doesn't count."🤣🤣🤣
"Dr. Newman is a guest in our home if I'm self conscious, he'll be ill at ease. I can't allow that to happen. It would be, un-Southern!" "Have you and Myles been...Baking, together?" It really is hard to find the best scene from this show 'cause there are SO MANY!
Not only that, but it’s a quote from Street Car Named Desire. Comparing Blanche to Blanche Dubois, a southern Belle who’s out of touch and spends a lot of time putting on heirs… is just so brilliantly layered.
@@sweeney60 omg YESSS! I'm so glad to see your comment. Many people familiar with this scene haven't made that connection. Which is, of course, more than ok. The most consistently funny TV show I ever watched ..all four actresses were perfect ..love these clips ..I loved the way they made even tough subjects funny ...
I loved the part of the scene where Blanche’s mom remembers it was actually Christmas Day not Mother’s Day. Rue was amazing in that scene perfectly balancing comedy and the care and hurt of seeing her mom in that state.
We lost our father 7 years ago, and my mother told us kids that she never had any dream of my father, though he always 'visited' us kids in our dreams. I really hope that my mom can finally meet my father again in her dream, just like Blanche and George.
I have bee visited by my father in my dreams in many different occasions after he passed 10 months ago. He passed away unexpectedly. He also has not visited my mother in dreams. 😔 I really wish she could dream of him.
I love the Fidel clip when Sophia tells Blanche, "Beat it you 50 year old mattress". In the Dance Marathon, I've often wondered how the GGs managed to dress in their best sequin outfits/jewelry at home together and neither asked the other where she was going, lol. So so so so so so so much gloriousness this show possessed….a timeless classic I love this show and these women so much I literally could watch them for months and months and watch nothing else and wouldn’t mind one bit
All my girls are gone now. Rest in peace Mrs Betty Marion White Ludden. Thank you for simply being you. We love you and miss you. I know it's sad everyone but lets remember death is something we all must face one day. This woman may have not lived to see the age of 100 but boy did she lived one hell of a life, a full life, a life filled with golden memories What a great woman. Rest is glorious peace rose.. I mean betty.
I've come back to this video at least 3 times now, and I'm always laughing. This show is timeless. It tackles some real issues, and it's amazing that we got gifted with Sophia, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche.
"Our second contestant is an artist with an incredible body. She runs her own museum, speaks Chinese and hopes to sail around the world before she turns 40. That must be a typo." Whoever wrote those three lines deserved an Emmy. Hilarious. And aren't we all a mix of each GG ourselves? We can all be snarky, sexy, innocent and wise Love these women. Thanks for posting.
That's why everyone can relate to it in some way. This show is one of the best treasures of my life. It definitely helped me through some pretty hard and dark times throughout my life. For my taste, this is hands down the best comedy show of all time. It gave birth to four of the most wonderful fictional characters to ever grace the television screen. They were all great but Blanche was my favorite of the Golden Girls. Simply put, this show is absolute perfection! They'll never be another one like it.
No enough mentions of the intricacy of the wardrobe department pulled for this show. The ladies multiple day looks are one thing. But their night attire is a visual FEST. the jewelry and accessories ar ALWAYS fantastic and so nuanced to their personalities.
The scene at the end of this video ("George") and in another episode when Rose tells her mother she's scared of losing her... those are two scenes that made me cry.
One of my favorite episode is "Mary Had A Little Lamb". When Rose took advantage of the chance to call Blanche names in front of Merrill it was too funny. But I love it mostly because I lost my mom when I was 12 and I would have given anything to have had the GG's house to go to for comfort. Every time Blanche tells Mary, "We'll take care of you" I just weep.
Guy Corbin: For one-hundred points, complete this famous saying: "Better late than..." (Blanche buzzes) Blanche? Blanche: Pregnant! Guy Corbin: That's incorrect, but certainly not untrue. 😂 26:24 - 26:44 🤣
You know when Sophia retorted to Blanche, "You're only going to sit in an inch of water," I would've taken that as a compliment to mean that I'm thin.😏
I was a teen when this show was on and I remember thinking why would I want to watch a show about a bunch of old ladies, then I was at a friends house and it was on and I fell in love with the characters especially Sophia. Estelle Getty was one of the funniest actors for any comedy. She ranks up their with other classic characters like Granny from Beverly Hillbillies or Berta from Two and a Half Men.
I love this series of videos. I’ve been waiting for Part 2 since Part 1 came out. Hope there are a lot more videos like this coming! Thanks for the great content!

But “Blanche Visits Her Mother” just cracked me up with the look of pride on her face is priceless!
😀
The amount of talent it takes to look like you're bad at acting is really amazing. Kudos to Bea.
Truth!
Blanche to Rose: “No one uses the word thrice.”
Rose: “But it’s a word”.
Blanche: “So is interuterine. It does not belong in a song.” 😂
❤️❤️
It was Dorothy who said that when they were writing a song.
"Literally, it's the precise moment when dog doo turns white".
XDXDXD
Ha
All time favorite Blanche line: “oh god I wish I was dead”
“Shrimp?”
😂 😂 😂
Ha
16:32 I love how the audience went "awww"
When they saw the two dogs ❤
I know I do
So so so so so so so much gloriousness this show possessed….a timeless classic I love this show and these women so much I literally could watch them for months and months and watch nothing else and wouldn’t mind one bit
:)
Dorothy listens to Rose’s stories both sarcastically and attentively with crazy remarks😂😂😂😂😂😂
❤️💚
All my girls are gone now. Rest in peace Mrs Betty Marion White Ludden. Thank you for simply being you. We love you and miss you. I know it's sad everyone but lets remember death is something we all must face one day. This woman may have not lived to see the age of 100 but boy did she lived one hell of a life, a full life, a life filled with golden memories What a great woman. Rest is glorious peace rose.. I mean betty.
💔💕🫂
For real though these three women are comedic genius’s. Their timing is impeccable 💜
❤️
Three? How about four?🤔
Also delivery: Eat dirt and dye trash!
Dye: For the TH-cam bots
Love
Sophia was the mother of the golden girl Dorothy
Lolll, "Mr. P-Feiffer, about the p-fun-, about the funeral" 🤣😂🤣😂 those writers were absolutely amazing!
😂😂😂
I've come back to this video at least 3 times now, and I'm always laughing. This show is timeless. It tackles some real issues, and it's amazing that we got gifted with Sophia, Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche.
💓💓
God, that last clip with Blanche’s dream always breaks my heart. It’s bittersweet, but ultimately heartbreaking…
Mine too
Sophia: "cabbage you serve me... In ten minutes I'll be sky-writing"
Mhm
"Our second contestant is an artist with an incredible body. She runs her own museum, speaks Chinese and hopes to sail around the world before she turns 40. That must be a typo." Whoever wrote those three lines deserved an Emmy. Hilarious.
And aren't we all a mix of each GG ourselves? We can all be snarky, sexy, innocent and wise Love these women. Thanks for posting.
❤️
That's why everyone can relate to it in some way. This show is one of the best treasures of my life.
It definitely helped me through some pretty hard and dark times throughout my life. For my taste, this is hands down the best comedy show of all time. It gave birth to four of the most wonderful fictional characters to ever grace the television screen. They were all great but Blanche was my favorite of the Golden Girls. Simply put, this show is absolute perfection! They'll never be another one like it.
I do think there are so many relatable topics and characters for sure
“We are bereaved on a budget” 😂😂
I love that phrase
No enough mentions of the intricacy of the wardrobe department pulled for this show. The ladies multiple day looks are one thing. But their night attire is a visual FEST. the jewelry and accessories ar ALWAYS fantastic and so nuanced to their personalities.
The golden girls fashion blog I think does a good job on this if looking for content
I love Blanche’s clothes, even some of Dorothy’s were elegant and classy.
@@desertrose1226 except when dorothy looked like “ the mother of a solid gold dancer” 🤣😂🤣
0:31 that third laugh where it dawns on blanche how badly she screwed up breaks me lol
👍
Infinitely rewatchable - Golden Girls was the best writing bar none. The wit, the hilarity, the heart, it has it in spades.
❤️❤️
George and Blanche always gets me. Glad to see she found closure.
Mhm
"OH blow it out your turbunburbbles" 🤣🤣🤣
Such a funny word
Wish they had more sitcoms like Designing Women and the Golden Girls. Today's sitcoms ain't hitting on nothing.
💜💜
Betty still loves animals and is an advocate for them. Keep going
Mhm
Blanche was soo great at this! Just love her!
:)
The scene at the end of this video ("George") and in another episode when Rose tells her mother she's scared of losing her... those are two scenes that made me cry.
They are very emotional and real
One of my favorite episode is "Mary Had A Little Lamb". When Rose took advantage of the chance to call Blanche names in front of Merrill it was too funny. But I love it mostly because I lost my mom when I was 12 and I would have given anything to have had the GG's house to go to for comfort. Every time Blanche tells Mary, "We'll take care of you" I just weep.
❤️
If you ever wonder what comedic timing is all about, these girls had it perfected. ❤😂
💜💜
Guy Corbin: For one-hundred points, complete this famous saying: "Better late than..." (Blanche buzzes) Blanche?
Blanche: Pregnant!
Guy Corbin: That's incorrect, but certainly not untrue.
😂 26:24 - 26:44 🤣
Love his voice
Who loved the look on Dorothy's face?
You know when Sophia retorted to Blanche, "You're only going to sit in an inch of water," I would've taken that as a compliment to mean that I'm thin.😏
Always room for jello!
@@StayGoldenGirls Ha ha ha! Funny!😝
that's always been one favorite scenes ever in the golden girls.
"There's always room for jello"
@@juniorfio1196 Ha ha! It looks like Stay Golden said it first. 😜
