    The Classic:
“I’m deeply interested in Military History and Military Sciences, I know all about the most important conflicts:
    - WWII
    - WWII from the German perspective
    - WWII but if Germany had won and how it could have
    - WWII Pacific Theater, exclusively on how I thought it was poggers that we dropped the nukes, even though I think Imperial Japan was kinda based
    - The War of Northern Aggr… Erm, I mean American Civil War and Stonewall Jackson being cool defending States Rights
    - What If the Confederacy has Won (Spoiler: Slavery would end like a couple of years after, like it wasn’t even about that, the Yankees were more racist actually, if they had lost there wouldn’t even be racism if you think about it)
    - The Clone Wars
    - The Galactic Civil War; As seen by The Galactic Empire
    - The Campaign of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Canon + Legends)
    - The Horus Heresy
    - All of the Black Crusades
    - The Tyrannid Invasions
    - The Wars of The First Age Against Melkor and the Wars of the Second Age
    - The War of The Ring (duh!)
    - The Oblivion Crisis
    - The Crusades, as chronicled by Power Metal songs
    - The Roman Empire Army… Just that, not any war, just drooling over the army which was always unchanged, it’s not like Rome had like, centuries of existence or something
    - How Rome Fell; You might think it’s not exclusively a subject for Military History, but you are wrong, watch me talking about how the mightiest military was destroyed from within as I suggest ominously that the same thing is happening now with “The West” *wink* - Don’t read the comments, there’s nothing worrisome there at all!
    - My nightly matches of HOI4 and Crusader Kings
Only those. I don’t know shit about anything else, but I’ll be dammed if that will stop me from talking authoritatively about it!
    Also Feudalism wasn’t that bad
but also the British Empire was a civilizing force even though I performative denounce the Industrial Revolution, the Enlightenment and cosmopolitanism - Don’t question, makes sense!”

Assessing someone's ability to manage their own life is a way to judge how well they'd act given authority over others given the chance. Good living is a sign for good personal philosophy guiding it. Since we're talking about people who proposed ways to reorder human civilization, their personal lives are a factor that should be considered to see of how they might practice what they preach. Nobody in any time period should give extra consideration to the words of a deadbeat who can’t keep themselves from turning their domicile into squalor.

This is actually a good test on one’s knowledge of authoritarianism. Governments, and their relationship to the people, are a complex system. I don’t say that in the colloquial sense of the word complex I mean that as in the science of complexity.
One of the key… elements of a complex system is how the micro-level impacts the macro-level and how the macro-level impacts the micro-level. Manufactured consent is basically a specific application of this concept.
Is it easy to do authoritarianism within a democracy? No. Is it common? No. Can it be done? Absolutely. And seeing if a person can understand this is a good indicator of how well they know authoritarianism

"Soviet-style communism" is easily encapsulated by the word Bolshevism, but this seems to have been forgotten. Bolshevists were basically the most radically authoritarian of the left-wing flavoured political groups in the Russian Civil War, and through a mixture of fanaticism and good fortune took control of the state, creating the USSR as it became known. The periods of effective dictatorship, such as the Stalinist period, were derivatives of and not departures from Bolshevist thinking.
