I can't imagine being able to think under that much pressure and with having the audience clapping and cheering against me hoping to dissuade me into shutting up. You did amazingly well to stand up to his BS.. and We were all able to witness it!!! It's so amazing and cool. i want to hug you!
he’s a dude in a dress
When you have to resort to having your opposition's mic taken from them you know you've lost the debate
Clearly someone who lacks braincells. Ben Shapiro has to argue against a variety of people, if this wasn't the case, then this debate would go on for hours. What is a woman? A person who identifies as a Woman. But what is that? A Woman. This debate would go on for an eternity, thus the reason there is a time limit
Were you even paying attention? Did you even listen to a single word that was spoken, or did you have the mute button on?
@@binka21 uh, yeah, i didn't hear any words from Demi, mainly because Ben Sh(ut the fuck u)Piro can't say anything with out saying a combination of, "again", "let me rephrase that" and of course, "yes, and... *proceeds to say another 2 paragraphs of verbal nothing burger* "

gigastacy destroys beta shapiro with facts and logic
I'm sorry, but the definition at the end was definitely circular in meaning: A is a set of characteristics of B and A is a person that exhibits A. B should have been the point the debate should have been revolving around and the starting question was going in the right direction but has been abandoned, most likely due to nervosity.
The question should have been if the designation [trans woman] should be categorized as a subset of [woman] or of [man] like [goth girl] or [tall girl] would be an undercategory of woman and
why a person should be treated as they say they want to and not like people judge themselves. Maybe also if this isn't totalitarian because you say the right thing would be forcing your judgement onto others.
Shout out to Demi who has the courage to do this.
I reject the whole performative concept because it takes for granted that there is a checklist of how a man "should" be
@@franciscopalacios4638 Then you could neither call anything a woman or man because there is no "defined quality" of that. If we designate something, I argue every human being has a preconceived notion of that thing, i.e. different kinds of stools, tables and pans still are perceived as that, even though they are different.
There is a defined quality of everything tangible, and even of intangible things.
You rejecting that is not the reasonable thing, rather expanding or defining something anew would be, finding a better definition rather that saying there is none.
"Because I said so" is for example an argument but as circular as it can be, there should be a better one that identifies by another aspect.
@@Glazkor so, basically you are making the sexist performative argument that there is a "defined quality" that i must have in order to be a man (other than my genitals that you of course reject).
"Because I said so" is basically the whole gender argument
@@franciscopalacios4638 Well, you saying there is a performative argument being sexist is unreasonable to a great degree. If you mean by performative that you have to be able to walk to run a marathon or a chair being something to sit on, then yes.
You officially have failed most simple logic if you say something comes from the same thing, i.e. there is no empirism in scientific process.
But I fail to understand where this is becoming sexist the moment we try to find a common definition of sex, especially because I did not define how a man or a woman should be but you clearly must have done that because, as you yourself say, you reject the "performative argument". While you call it performative, this is a very flawed word for that.
You say a woman or a man should be a specific way and be able to perform a certain task to be a woman or a man. You call that performative.
I just say:
- every thing in existence can be defined in a non circular fashion
- every thing is defined by other aspects or technical ideas in every human being
- we should be able to find a broader definition that makes sense to more people
It is a basic ontologic argument that is manifested in cognition and you calling that argument sexist would be laughable.
I mean you don't have to lift weights to be a man or wear a dress to be a woman but trans men go to the gym and trans women wear things typically associated with women.
Riddle me this, why if not by their own will and want?
I don't think it's circular at all. Female can both be the sex that produces small ova and an individual that is female.
Likewise, woman can both be defined as the gender that correlates with the schema of the female sex and as a person that fits into that gender, IE someone who identifies as a woman.

you 100% did the absolute best you could given the circumstances ben, matt and all them give.
good work, great composure.
ppl need to keep putting pressure like this. they're not used to real, measured push back.
The important thing to remember when debating conservatives that are incredibly famous is that the goal isn't to beat them in a debate. You can't. Even if you do, they will simply act like they won, use buzzwords as gotchas, it doesn't matter. The point is to make them look dumb. I would take notes from Alec Gunter. Great job regardless though, the confidence to do this is genuinely admirable
Your criticism is accurate when applied to Ben Shapiro and similar Con Inc. types. But you say that. You say "conservative". That kind of blanket dismissal of people who disagree with you is toxic, not to mention contagious. It makes ME want to dismiss people like YOU.
And the idea that a debate should be about making someone look silly is just as dumb and not even meaningfully distinct from the idea that debates should have winners. Fuck that.
The REAL goal of a debate is to get a better understanding of the other person and make the other person understand you better. That's all you can do in one session. Changing somebody's mind doesn't happen all at once. But once their minds have been opened, they can change their views if they want to.
When i'm in a "not responding to question" contest and my opponent is ben shapiro

Demi didn’t say female. She said woman. Ben kept changing it to female disingenuously even though she didn’t say that.
If you went to an adopted mother and talked about how she's a "disgusting fake mother", most people would find that abusive and insulting. And there are people who do that.
Transphobes who say that trans women are "disgusting fake women" are just doing the exact same thing! Being abusive and insulting towards their social role.
So it's actually a perfect comparison. I will use this argument.
i saw an homeless guy who sleep all day under a grey blanket. He clearly shows some rockshood characteristics. He clearly is not a man but a rock.
@@maironiv6933 I identify as a rock too!
1. I have watched many videos of the daily wire crew having speeches and "debates" in college campuses. I love to sharpen my critical thinking skills through watching these clashes of ideas. I came here from Vaush and I agree with him 100% on the nature of such debates. This is an extremely unfair situation: Ben has control over his mic but you don't; Ben can talk whenever he wants but you can be kicked out; his audiences are waiting for any opportunity to ridicule you and they will buy whatever Ben says without critical thinking because, let's be honest, the majority of the audience are there to have fun watching Ben owning libs. And obviously, Ben/YAF gets to edit the clips however they like to attract millions of views to laugh at your humiliation.
I love listening to people with different opinions having thoughtful and respectful conversations. However, this clearly isn't it, and there is nothing you, Demi, could do to change that. So is all hope lost?
I could never try to debate him because I would immediately start throwing insults 😭 ppl like this make me so irritated
What a shite this video doesn't have the thousands of views other videos have. I used to be against transgenderism, but I heard this argument about the biological and non biological parents from a woman from Spain, and finally this position seemed the most reasonable.
You made a very good argument at the start! Trans women being considered women is very similar to adopted mothers being called mothers.
Ben just talked about random pseudointellectual bullshit instead, and didn't wanna face the facts. You could have pushed him more.
But don't feel bad. The game is rigged against you, so if you get a few good points across that some more open minded people will pick up on, you did all you needed.
You're epic, keep slaying!
You did so well girl. I can’t believe anyone can logically defend Ben now. If we can extend the term “mother” then why not “woman”?
Also, there are so many examples. Like, scientifically there is no such thing as a “fish” but we still use the term “fish”. An American robin isn’t a European robin but we still call it that. The Black-faced cuckoo-shrike isn’t related to a cuckoo or a shrike… you get the meaning.
So, next time they ask you that question (you know the one) at the end, ask them back- or before- “what is a tree?”
There is no advanced definition for a tree.
Also also, is that Kirby on your hoodie? So cute ❤❤
How fucking retarded do you have to be to say there is no definition of a tree
It's Gloomy Bear lol
2. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say I absolutely admire your courage going up there to ask a challenging question in front of a hostile audience, not to mention you knew your conversation will be edited for millions online to laugh at (and holy s you did it twice with Ben Shapiro and Michael Knowles!). Personally, I will never go up like you: I convince myself that's because I don't believe the conversation could ever be meaningful (and that's true), but deep down I think I just don't have the courage to expose myself to the inevitable embarrassment.
What's more admirable is your attitude in the conversations. Many in that situation became emotional and aggressive when exposed to Ben/Michael's "triggering" expressions and resort to personal attacks. Those typically would be laughed at more by the conservative audience. In contrast, you've shown zero aggression and remained calm. In you (1) video description (2) message to Vaush (3) 1hr podcast, you all showed you really lack confidence in your performance, which is clearly unwarranted.
Although I'm young, I'm sure I'm older than you Demi and I see similarities between you and me. I'm fairly certain that you are not the kind of person to be angry/rude over political disagreement with anyone. Your aggressions are probably often inward, towards yourself, instead of to others. Your pose was not "confident-looking", which is just like me and it's totally fine. I came to these conclusions through the fact that you were incredible polite towards Ben, and you totally let him guide the conversation (and despite all that, you made a good rebuttal against Ben on the spot, which is super cool!). I'd guess that after this exchange, you spent time alone regretting your performance and felt awful for quite some time (though I hope you didn't). These personalities are often considered "weak" and "beta", but imo, they could be the path to having civil disagreements between people with different ideologies (more on that in the future!).
I hate seeing people like you get hurt. But the unfortunate reality of American online political discourse is that rude people eat polite people for lunch. Good faith easily gets trampled upon. Given these circumstances, what can we do?
(oh it's too late tonight! later when I have time I will write about my thoughts on your exchange with Ben and on possible ways to have constructive conversations for different ideas)
Really great job, DemiGloom! (I left more comments on Vaish's channel.) Keep it up and you as a full fledged professional will not have to go backwards to argue with college students. 🥰💖
I’m a straight cis guy and when I listen to things like the podcast episode you and your friends did about this, it makes me so mad. I will never truly understand how it feels to endure that.
You did great standing up to that fool. Even if most of his drones refuse to think critically, it’s great to share these ideas for those who might begin to actually think about what even comes out of his mouth. Opening people’s minds is a slow process, and it all starts with approaching these kinds of conversations in good faith. @bhavyakukkar I was pointing out how illogical the analogy was. Adoptive mothers and biological mothers are both called mothers because they are females raising children. You have my respect. Do not get affected by the horrible comments.
We call a mother a mother because she operates the role of a mother. We wouldn't call someone a mother just because she says she's a mother. A man cannot operate the role of a woman (you can't define what that even is), so he can't be a woman.
Ah, but you’re conflating society with biology.
In biology, a mother is the organism whose egg cell is the basis for the organism formed by that egg and the sperm cell (let’s keep it to vertebrates for now). Biologically speaking, there needs be no love, care, etc.
However, we have allowed it to take on a SOCIAL role that generally centres round a degree of care/love/bond for the offspring. This allows parents who don’t share DNA with their children to be considered their mother.
If we have allowed this conflation of social/biological roles, why do we refuse to do so when facing the idea of gender?
@@farfetchdthegamer3810 Not necessarily
A father can also care for his daughter the same way a mother can, to assume the role of a mother would mean that you yourself are a woman caring for your child. You can assume the social role of a mother but that doesn't make you a mother. I could assume the social role of a canine, walking on all fours, eating wild animals raw, but that doesn't make me a canine, the same concept applies to being a mother.

i think you did great, its a shame he kept cutting you off and they made you leave before you could respond. i wish they made it more clear that you were forced to walk away at the end, it makes it look like you didn't have a rebuttal
He was answering the questions asked while pointing out the logical flaws within the question though. What made it look like Demi didn't have a rebuttal was the fact Demi could not answer the question without using a circular definition and had to have why it was a circular definition explained with examples as Demi was oblivious to the fact that that is what they were doing.
This is not an attack of Demi, I have nothing against them. I am also not a big Shapiro fan or even a Republican. Lifelong classic liberal who just happened to have this video show up in their recommendations who after watching the video twice was shocked by the delusion in the title and the comment section.
@@kurt5079 i cant lie, the title is clickbaity, but thats how youtube goes. while what demi said was technically a circular definition, i would argue you can still clearly see what she was getting at, that a woman is someone who exhibits mostly feminine traits (although this is not a one size fits all definition, that is the case for many commonly accepted definitions, it applies to the large majority of women.) i think she probably would have clarified this had she been allowed to respond
@idiomrat I would agree that the mic being lowered prematurely was a shame but Demi did look a bit lost and unable to give a definition at that point but we will never know now.
"that a woman is someone who exhibits mostly feminine traits" if that was what she was getting at then Demi would have been incorrect. You can have a butch lesbian woman who can show mainly masculine traits (I imagine you like most of us who have been around a while you have met/know a few). Try telling her she is a man now by definition and you will probably get a smack in the mouth.
I would also argue that this is not a commonly accepted definition. It is a definition accepted by a tiny very vocal minority in the west who have been affected by recent political theory that others in society such as corporations, media figures, politicians etc have been forced to go along with otherwise they risk the very real chance of being smeared as a hate filled bigot and having their careers/reputations destroyed by online lynch mobs.
A woman is an adult human female. I don't mean to quote Walsh there (not his biggest fan) it just so happens that the definition it turns out he uses is also the correct biological one.
@idiomrat I imagine this may be a topic we may disagree on, which is fine. Like I said, I have no problem with Demi at all or anyone living their life how they see fit who does no harm to others regardless of what their preferences may be, be it sexual, religious etc.
It is nice to know that there are still some on the Internet who can still have polite conversations with people with opposing views. It is a trait I see less and less in my fellow liberals. Take care, and all the best.
@@kurt5079 i think that butch lesbians usually do still have many feminine characteristics, but i think there will be exceptions. im sure you could find a chair that does not meet the definition of a chair or a sandwich that does not meet the definition of a sandwich, etc. as i said, there is no one size fits all definition, but women are generally associated with feminine characteristics. if exceptions are an issue, how does your definition account for intersex people? also, i did not mean to imply the definition of a woman i used was commonly accepted, sorry for the miscommunication.

/ˈfēˌmāl/
adjective
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) that can be fertilized by male gametes.
This one always gets them, the actual definition of women and female aren't transphobic, female even leaves room for Trans women by saying "denoting".
Not really.
The definition of woman also refers to the gender yes, but then again. As a dictionary company, you wouldn't want any of your definitions to be considered as "transphobic", because god forbid anyone were to cancel your company for those reasons. Even so, transgender people can literally not define what woman means. A woman is a person who identifies as a female? Great! What is a female, and that's what stumps every liberal/trans person.
Okay so basically he acted as if you were using "woman" and "female" as synonyms, then when that didn't work he tried to make it sound like you said womanhood was _exclusive_ to female people rather than associated with them. I personally don't reeeeeeally agree with that definition but yeah Ben was just as dishonest as you'd expect him to be 😂
Even if that was the case, people are ideologically driven to have clear cut definitions they prefer. That being said, it's idiotic to describe woman with being female but not biologically what Ben pointed out. Although I don’t believe that long hair etc. is exclusively social thing
Why does Ben talk like that? He sounds like the nightcore version of himself

LOL. Shapiro is objectively smart. Every serious critic of his would acknowledge that. Only someone unintelligent would make such a brazen claim.

Shapiro is such a weasel. I would like to see him attempt to define what a dog is; see how far he can take it without defining literally 50% of all animals lol.
You did great!
Hey I’m here from vaush’s video! You did great here. I found it funny how he never actually answered your question
Demi, Hi, what I think you should do. Is bring an actual definition of what he wants. I watch this, I do not see any victory for you. Thus, his audience sees no victory for you. If you bring exactly what he wants. Then you shatter his world view and the world view of his audience. So, make a definition without womanhood and female. To bring it. Is to decimate him.
There isn't a definition of a woman without the word female. A woman is an adult human female.
It's a bit of a miss that you weren't able to provide examples of other definitions of words that are circular.
Still the example of mother was good and you should have hammered home on that and avoid him pivoting. Because his entire arguements and foundations rests on the false equivications between biological sex and social gender. If he s for just 1 second than gender has a social aspect that becomes an infinite weakness that can be exploited by repeated questions.
He is very aware of that though so he will do everything to tie sex and gender together. So there is no easy recipe to debunk him.
Optically the mic is held too low and you hunch over, the outfit is drippy but the crowd instantly sees you as the outgroup. It doesn't affect the arguements made, but to beat Ben you have to appear more confident than him which of course is incredibly difficult because he is the most smug person alive.

I never listened to Ben Shapiro until now. This fool is just pulling a digibro arguing semantics and definitions and nuances
Isn't the debate about what the meaning of woman is? What's wrong about him debating semantics/definitions then?
@@A7XDaemon because a woman is not the same as female. Female is s3x woman is social constructs that up to this point in time have not been as fluid or in a spectrum. Feel Free to chime in Demi.
Semantics are quite important to definitions and definitions and nuances are rather important when it comes to critical thinking...
@@kurt5079 not when it's applied to social constructs which is something that is subjective and changing. If the debate was linguistically describing female, women , male and men than yes definitions and baselines will be necessary in describing those words.....In a linguistic manner. However this debate and the LGBT+ movement is not about what literally what does words means is about the social construct of what it means to be a woman and man etc
@@Sawyer186 Demi literally started off by talking about shifting within definitions. Then Ben explained that there are distinctions within the definitions. And explained why the example given was not comparable.
Demi's question related to why affirming trans identity would be an attack on Biology. It was not about social constructs.
To which Ben replied he saw it as an attack on truth not biology after he had already pointed out the flaws within the question with the example of biological and adoptive mothers being used within the context it was.
It was also a question about an actual definition at the end to help define the parameters for the conversation when Ben had to explain why it was a circular definition that Demi was trying to use.
Ben Shapiro can't even answer the question
Dude can't even look up lol

I don't know why you bothered playing into his hands so he can grift off more Daily Wire content.
You should've went right for the jugular and listed off anti-Israel talking points to his face, then tell everyone in the audience his AI dead baby picture was an edit of a dog at the vet lol. He would've kvetched in public and it'd do more for Trans rights than a lame debate that goes nowhere.
So instead of a genuine question, she should have antagonized him about the murder of his people? Great idea.
listen im on your side and all but this kinda feels like copium here to say you "owned" him or that he "panicked" when ben just speaks fast and does that all the time in normal speech
essentially while defining "woman" and "womanhood" and whatever synonyms you reused words without providing any more actual meaning to the words and ben pointed it out, then in a struggle to reiterate what you meant and actually have a productive argument they took your mic and the 16iq audience clapped without comprehending a word that was exchanged
For that second part, you can understand that they did if you looked at it again, and as for ben shapiro's speech, he should have more composure as a public-speaker, I know that he speaks fast but it definitely got to him.
He defined mothers and motherhood in the same way. Maybe you missed it but it was a very clear self own with the assistance of demigloom.
He didnt get "owned" an adopted mother is nor a "real"mother, the same way calling your friend cuz doesnt make it your real cousin.
Ben clearly does feel like adopted mothers are real mothers, he would’ve said they aren’t if that’s how he felt. You wouldnt refer to someone’s adopted mother as their adopted mother, just mother. That’s the whole point trans people just want to be called their respected gender, no trans person claims or wants to be called a biological female. And as a “biological female” I’d rather not be called that either it feels weird and dehumanizing
@@cristal6636 I don't care about what Ben feels.
I can call someone a mother the same way I can call my friend brother or cousin. Because it's a courtesy. They are not mother's the same way my friend is not my cousin.
