The cheapest party in this video was $200,000, and that was the boring wine party. Theres no such thing as a “more realistic budget” when i comes to things like this. You either have the money to throw a “real” party or your just having a kickback. There is no in between.

She’s got such a breadth of knowledge in various subjects relating to party throwing. Little bit of knowledge on helicopter prices here, little bit of knowledge on firework procedure there, etc.
My mom just celebrated her 50th birthday with the best party I’ve ever been to. It was just at the neighborhood amenity center but she rented out a poker, blackjack, and roulette table, and my stepdad and I bought an arcade machine. During the party my friend and I played the roulette table the whole time and we left with $150,900 (everyone started with $20k each). Shame it wasn’t real money as we are just 15 but the feeling of having triple the money some adults earned at the party was awesome.
Tuxedos are the ones that are a bit over the top. Some do them for the groom and groomsmen for weddings, but they’re not as fashionable anymore. I think they can almost look tacky.
The bit about clients wanting things now regardless of timeline and restrictions is so SO REAL. 30 days is truly a blessing, but sometimes we’re given half or less and we have to make things happen.
I always loved the performance of the actress organizing the party planner for her father in "Meeting Joe Black". I could feel all her stress, all her dedication to this party that her father seemed not even to pay any attention for. Her attention to details, her planning ahead. That was a brilliant performance and I felt her anguish every step of the way as a daughter wanting the love and aproval of her father.

I worked at Yahoo and we had parties similar to the Office Party one, I mean they were sedate but we had hookah rooms, ice skating in a corner, open bar(s), and a vibe like the Gatsby party. Of course, stupid, out of control spending is one reason why we don’t exist anymore LOL
This woman is so charismatic and enjoyable to watch at the same time as being super on point with details and professional knowledge! Get her back for more videos pls
Thank you Charlie! U better let GQ know LOL! Much love! xx
She’s down to earth like us talking about rich people stuff lol
it's hella WEIRD how most of us will never acknowledge each other's existence, for example, if you're reading this, this is probably the first and last time you'll see THIS th-cam.com/video/0s2J4OriHF8/w-d-xo.html
I can relate! 🤪

halfway through i was really thinking “oh, only $25,000?”
Right lol
Yup! Hahaha!
Hahah fr. She makes it sound like change for the meter
I think its because she does parties for focking elites make that type of money looks like chump change
Idea for future Karleen video: how to provide a similar *experience* on smaller budgets. Like, how do you capture the same kind of vibes (fancy artsy like the Met Gala, high intensity like Crazy Rich Asians, etc) on a more realistic budget?
The cheapest party in this video was $200,000, and that was the boring wine party. Theres no such thing as a “more realistic budget” when i comes to things like this. You either have the money to throw a “real” party or your just having a kickback. There is no in between.
You don’t lol
good music and activities that are in the vibe you are going for? and invite people that give off that vibe, like dont invite your loud and annoying coworker to your met gala recreation 😂
There is definitely a cheaper way: take your friends and go to a party someone else is hosting
She used the term "Chick Wrangler" and no one is talking about this. That cracked me up.
💯
She’s like the Olivia Pope of event planning. It’s handled.
THAT'S THE ONE!!! 🎯
Yes 🙌🏻
I would watch that show.
Yes! I stan for her.
That would be a great Shonda Rimes show!
Her: “It’s minimal cost”
Me: 😏
*Then says it’s only a few thousand dollars*

She really just gave everyone a free Masterclass on event planning. Ok Karleen
This was 40 minutes and I was entertained the whole time. She really knows what she's talking about that it's so interesting. Love ther.
I need a whole video explaining dress codes. I don't even know the difference between a suit and a tuxedo. And please bring Karleen back- she's awesome!
I could listen to her talk about this for hours. It's rad to see people who are super skilled at jobs you maybe don't hear about all the time
As a fellow event planner (definitely not as experienced as her), I liked this breakdown a lot ! Also very educational
I'm studying event management and I listen to her talks like she is my lecturer
I've got a feeling you'll do very well for yourself
Head to get IG: KarleenRoy she's l believe she's launching an event academy. Also, she's always talking about business, life, and everything in between. I follow her just because she's THAT woman lol

I can't believe GQ was able to secure this with THE Karleen!!! Incredible to watch, wow. Magnificent!
This person freaking RADIATES good vibes. You just know her parties would be epic.
Our good Sis Karleen came through with tea, realistic price points, jokes, and a really informative explanation for everything. I love her vibe and she's a boss, especially since she survived working for Diddy! I still can't believe this is a 40min clip. The time flew with her personality! 10s across the board! Bring her back on GQ.

I wish she'd done the wedding in crazy rich asians, i always wondered how they did the water on the floor 🥺🥺 I loved hearing her talk!
Yes thats what I wanted to see ! That and the reception -- I just want to know how much it is to rent out marina bay sands like that
Wedding planners and event planners specialize in different things, gq would need to find a wedding planner for that
Honestly a film production designer would have more to say on how they did that! A lot of times things like that are constructed differently for film than they would be at an actual wedding.
The wedding and the Flower Blooming Party. I love this one.

I love love loveeee how they break this down, including all the nuances to consider in diff situations!!! Like lighting transitions, pre-prod loading time, security line item, waivers, overstaffing for valets, etc etc! I really appreciate how many details were highlighted, articulated, and included- it's an underrated art, how to plan a great event!
If we put Karleen in charge of the COVID vaccine we'd all be back to normal by March
I could listen to this woman talk about her job for hours, days even. She's so well spoken and smart and obviously loves what she does.
"Before I became an event planner and worked with Diddy...." --- casual flex.
Yup
She also name drops Offset 💪and Quavo💪
She seems to know her stuff tho lol
I think she just building credibility and explaining her experience.
Her checklist for events must be MASSIVE, there's so much to think about; the budget, security, damages, food, music, lighting, guest list, dress code, transportation, venue. Im literally exhausted just watching 😩 I had no idea
I can't believe I just finished and enjoyed a 40 minute video randomly recommended by TH-cam. This woman is very knowledgeable and engaging, you really want to listen to everything especially when she breaks down everything that happens and also shares her own experiences.
I'm just so amazed
I love her vibe. I could hangout and listen to her stories all night. She never mentioned how much it costs to hire a party planner and I bet she is not cheap.
A stadium ring in the middle of the desert for a private concert?? That really how y’all rich folk livin?? It blows my mind, that only happens in movie in my mind. Wow
Real life "rich people problems" lol I know first hand.
I mean there are some people so rich movies can't even actually afford what they do 🤣
They could end hunger, and that's what they do... My heart just aches... That's why we all should support Mr. Beast...
@@artemis7093 I mean Mr. Beast could do a lot more. A lot of his “challenges” are giving useless things to people. It is better than nothing, but he is still rich and could be doing a lot more.
@@bridgdjxnfkdzkx yeah, definitely....
This was so interesting to watch! The way Karleen can price things out so quickly speaks to her wealth of knowledge & experience, and her speaking style is very engaging. She’s got such a breadth of knowledge in various subjects relating to party throwing. Little bit of knowledge on helicopter prices here, little bit of knowledge on firework procedure there, etc.
Who else wants this woman to plan their event? I learned so much!
HEY NOW!!! ;)
I could never afford her.

Me as a party planner: trader Joe's meat and cheese platter tray

This is amazing. I’d watch a documentary,a series, a lecture, a whatever of this for as long as she wants to talk.
Blushing! Thank u for tuning in!
@@karleenroy6943 Seconded! This is brilliant, thank you!

I LOVE THIS. I was like "If they don't cover Crazy Rich Asians we gon' need a part two" but now I just need a part two because of Karleen.
I would trust Ms. Roy with every important moment in my life if I had the budget to afford her 😭 love her input, expertise and how down to earth she is!
Me, 40mins ago: Ugh why dis so long
Me now: Wow she should do more! Do Kim K's birthday, Heidi Klum's Halloween, Studio 54, flashmobs, ad stunts etc!
I would love to do those events!
Spot on! When I checked the length the video I thought I wouldn’t last to end of it or would just skip to certain parts... To my surprise, it was so enjoyable that it felt too short. She reminded me of certain teachers I had in school that were so good and passionate about their job that would make me also fall in love with the subject.
“It wasn’t too crazy, but it was a few thousand dollars.” Love this so much. She makes high end event planning seem so down to earth.
I need her to be on a show where they take us on crazy event planning journeys.... like super sweet sixteen back in the day hahaha
O;hhh real no Made up stuff
That sounds so stressful to have a camera following you around in the melee. But I like hearing more about the behind the scenes reality to making events happen
There's something that's so satisfying about a person who really knows how to do their job.
She said the Great Gatsby fireworks cost $15,000 to $25,000 like it was just the total of a midweek grocery shopping 😂
I was hoping the “Crazy Rich Asian” wedding price 🥺 but this was dope
