    Raise your beautiful headboards higher on the wall. You can attach them to the wall or add height to the legs with wood braces. They are too lovely to cover up with the pillows. Love what you’re doing!🥰🥰🥰

      I love the head boards just as they are. Padding them is not necessary as far as decor/design goes, but if you prefer the padding, then it will be lovely too. Personally, I’d keep them as is.

    Wow Julie, those headboards are beautiful & unique. Can’t believe you’re covering them with fabric. Why not just have throw pillows in that fabric instead. And one for the chair. Would look sooo pretty and you’d preserve the integrity of the headboards. Love your little Italian house & village. You are one lucky lady.

    • @AmericanViscountess
      @AmericanViscountess  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes, we are still deciding! And will probably keep the headboards and just use the fabric for bedskirts. :-)

    • @elisabeth6108
      @elisabeth6108 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So agree! The head boards are unique and have the vintage look that adds heart and character. Cover them and you just have another could-be-anywhere designer look.

      Yes, a throw pillow for each bed in that same pretty fabric, and long neck roll pillow for each. You might also find something to be a wastebasket for the room and cover it in the fabric too. Cute!

    I am going to use Babbel to learn Dutch ,so that when I am in Belgium, I can speak to my cousins in their own language. We will be meeting for the very first time! My husband and I , who are in our early 60’s, are traveling to Europe in June 2023. My grandparents emigrated to the USA from Belgium in the early 1900’s, but I have never been to Europe before! On our trip, we will be going to Amsterdam, Bruge, Paris, and London!!! I would love to see your house!

    Even though you didn’t ask me I’m going to give my opinion 😘😬 I would not cover the head boards. They are beautiful as is with the pillows up against it. If it’s the addition of padding you want for leaning against, just decorate it with a folded old quilt draped over the center back. Leaving a majority of the head board uncovered from the quilt.

    When I was 16 my parents bought a very old home that had been a carrage stop. The room that was my bedroom had cabinets built on the wall. They provided ample space for all of my clothing, including sweaters, and luggage. You may want to consider something like that in your spare bedroom. You have the wall space.

    • @AmericanViscountess

    • @CaitlinConCuore
      @CaitlinConCuore ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just thinking similarly-that you might be able to have a shelf above one of the peg boards or above the desk (maybe in that nice chestnut which would match the bed headboards 🥰), and have some organizational baskets for more drawer type storage for clothing that doesn’t hang or other odds and ends. It’s all coming together so nicely! ❤

    17:41 - Don’t know if it is a design style in Europe but here in the states some people do a half wall of shiplap usually in a light color/or white and then another color on the top half of a wall. Just throwing an idea out there. Love what you have done to restore this old house.

    I don’t like the headboards. I wouldn’t want that rusty stuff next to my white linens or my face and head. But the nice thing is that you can try them for awhile and change them later if you want to! Ta da! Idea: paint the risers on the stairs each a different bright color or stencil them with something pretty or a stencil design copied from some of those beautiful pottery designs you saw in Abruzo (?) or maybe your roosters escaped and made it to the stairs? How about using the kitchen tiles on the stair risers? That would be pretty! LOL! I do love the dust ruffle material and think a matching throw pillow and long neck pillow for each bed would be cute. I also think matching cushions for the chairs with a bit of ruffle around the edges would make them more comfy and look nice. Curtains too? Maybe with maps it would be too matchy-matchy. Maybe just Admiral Blue blackout curtains to match the desk ? I love the maps! What a great find! That room is going to be so welcome to weary travelers! You have such a great eye for possibilities.
    What is that indented space beside the desk? Could it be made into a wall of hooks for hanging clothes and bags? Could you put risers under the feet of the beds to raise them higher up so suitcases and blanket storage on rollers could go underneath?

    Love it all. I recently inherited a similar desk which was my Mother’s and I’ve been wanting to paint it dark blue! I’m taking this as a sign as yours looks so good! The fabric is wonderful, everything is wonderful so classic. Yeah team Malcom!! Also love the keepers cottage!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    Leave the headboards. They are so lovely. Fabric will ruin the vibe. The rest is gorgeous. You are a gem. Happy holidays.

    Just gorgeous. I have always wanted to go to Italy but never knew where I should go first. I think I have found it.

    I love the beautiful heart design on the wooden headboard. Instead of covering it, I wd get an artist to copy the design onto other headboard. Varnish both in clear yacht varnish. Use the striped blue fabric to cover two big pillows for the beds. I like the shaker pegs. I love the rug and light sconces in the corridor. Great taste! 💚💙💜

      I've had so many comments asking to keep them as they are - so I think that is what I will do. Thanks to you all!

    Do the bells play "Immaculate Mary" all the time, or do they play different hymns on different hours? Oh, I would be in heaven too! How beautiful!
    I hope that by this time the house has become less of a job and more of a retreat for you! Xoxo

    Everything is coming together so beautifully! I am anxious to see the upholstered headboards, and I agree, that the proportions of those nightstands work well in that room. What is the source for your rug? It's just perfect there. Don't forget to get a rug pad though!

    Yet another lovely room almost completed Julie. It's looking fabulous and I really enjoyed watching you and Malcolm go through the processes. I'm going to put PiGi's on my "must visit" list for next time we are shopping for furnishings. We still have our cantina to renovate and I'm always looking for lovely pieces at great prices. I've shopped predominantly at flea markets for our house too! Such great bargains to be had in Tuscany! Your online rug looks beautiful in the corridor...great choice! Bravissima 🥰🤗
