    I have a Stelvio and X3. I used to think the X3 was the ultimate driver…until the AF came along. Haters will hate, but drivers know what this car is about. My smiles come from driving the car, not from picking from 64 shades of ambient lighting or picking the level of fake exhaust sound.

  • @cbca6567
    @cbca6567 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Nonsense, the car is not about infotainment or interior in general at all so you missed the point. If a purchaser is more interested in that then German or Japanese cars major in that. The Stelvio provides a car like experience to drive with most of the premium Ferrari knowhow (project underpinnings headed by ex Ferrari engineer) in terms of susepnsion and handling, which makes it unique compared to other SUV's apart from Porsche at this price point.

    • @miks564
      @miks564 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say, since my2019 or my2020, the interior of the Stelvio is also very good unless we focus solely on things like the infotainment and ambient lighting.
      I also leave Porsche a notch below. They did a great job with the suspension and the gearbox and the Macan drives much better than a Q5, but its still built over the VW MLB platform with an Audi engine.

    • @cbca6567
      @cbca6567 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miks564 I agree with what you say completely. I mentioned Porsche, the Macan as you rightly stated, as it is the small SUV model all the motoring journalists turn to regarding driver satisafaction and handling and because those same journalists are snobs and usually place Porsche above Alfa Romeo on brand image unless proved otherwise. ALfa Romeo's Stelvio platform is the Georgio, developed by ex Ferrari engineers, but continue to say their v6 engine is all Alfa Romeo, to stop Ferrari owners complaining about the different price points of Alfa and Ferrari, because Alfa's v6 engine is basically the Ferrari California T v8 engine with two cylinders removed.

    Your review is very good. Yes the Stelvio could had LED interior lighting, 360 camera, HUD, ventilated seats ...but I would say it's not exactly lacking on the tech side.
    We have all the important 3 letter safety stuff and some. We can have it with adaptive cruise control and level 2 autonomous driving (mine, 2021, has it). All Stelvios are built with lightweight considerations. The body is almost full aluminum. Engine and patented suspension are made of aluminum as well. Even the driveshaft is carbon fiber. It has a Continental brake-by-wire system. The car is built over the Giorgio platform (from the Giulia), that's why the engine seats behind the front axle and the car has such a perfect weight balance. To help, it bears one of the more direct steering in the market featuring Ackerman geometry for better grip out of corners. The 'Veloce' can also come with a slip differential, so It's not by chance that the car drives the way it does.
    A lot of technology can be find there, just on different less common aspects.
    One detail (in terms of technology) unknown to most, is the 'multiair' valve system we find in this 2.0 engine. It's a patented system from FPT for advanced variable valve timing. Everybody is using electricity these days to improve efficiency, so I know this doesn't seem much, but for some petrolheads, is still interesting stuff. 😊

    Upgrades to the Stelvio (Touch screen navi and new gear shifter and elimination of cheap black plastic on the center console) happened with MY 2020. In MY 2022, the interiors became much more DRAB. I have a 2020 Trofeo White Ti Sport (equivalent spec wise of your "Veloce") but it has red seats with a red center console, red accents on the middle of the door cards and the lower dash is red as well as well as red contrast stitching on the steering wheel and gear shift lever. THAT interior REALLY POPS...in 2022, they cheapened the interior and made it much more black and grey and now if you order red seats, only the seats are red and they look out of place without the other red accents....

    You didn't understand the positioning of an Alfa Romeo Stelvio or Giulia. These are cars to have real FUN when driving them. Not cars to look at an LCD monitor while parking them.

    I would love to see it having a more expressive and aggressive front like the GTAM for example. Especially the Quadrifoglio has a better front, but there is just still something missing...proportions? Anyway, viva Alfa I guess..

  • @miks564

    2:11 the headlights have adaptive high beams as mentioned, but they adapt to corners as well. They also turn into the corners depending on a few parameters like speed and angle.

  • @miks564
    @miks564 ปีที่แล้ว

    8:23 the finish that looks like carbon fiber is actually aluminum. (It is Carbon fiber on the 'estrema' trim and also on the Quadrifoglio).
    8:44 14 speaker system. 😊
    10:47 My Veloce has also heated back seats with the controls near the USB ports in the back. So, I guess it might be optional.
    The bland interior lines are actually appreciated by some. I find it classy. ...and to avoid all the black and grey, we don't need to go for the more extreme classic Alfa Romeo red interior. We can also go for brown, which is actually my favorite!

    Not worth it? Better spend money on a car with LED lighting and wireless carplay... hhmmm, no, I think I'd recommend spending money on substance, like suspensions coming from Ferrari engineers, 100kg less than the lightest competitor, reliability, 50/50 weight distribution and other things that are irrelevant for this channel.

    The thing that I don't like about this car and that includes the top spec Quadrifoglio is lack of launch control. It really gives the car a take off disadvantage vs its German competitors.
    If this just had a tad more power and straight line performance (under 5s 0-100, launch control and about 230KW/450 torque), as I know it's great for an SUV in the twisties, I'd honestly consider it (even with Alfa's reliability history) over an RSQ3/X1 M35i(coming)/Tiguan R/GLA 45S and so on. It looks the best of the mid size 120K and under performance SUV's but it's the slowest. That makes it a non start for me. And the 200 grand option still gets pummelled off the line by its competitors, again because of lack of LC. Although it's a much faster 4 second car than the Veloce, and the raw power of the Quadrifoglio does offset the lack of LC to a degree, I just expect LC at that price. You can see all this in Car Wow drag tests.
    Honestly? If I was spending that much I would source one of very few remaining Grand Cherokee 2021 Trackhawks instead. That's still an absolute bucket list car for me due to sheer superpowered V8 grunt and muscular looks.

  • @makaw2006

    These new alfas do not make any sense at those prices at all. I'd rather buy a used macan or something. Much better car in all respects, and it is coming from an alfista😅

      @@BenoitXVIII I dont think its normal, as many other people who considered it and eventually didn't buy it, i think sales figures and "underrated alfa .." videos on TH-cam shows that.

      @xianjianqixiazhuan5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have Macan S with 3.0 engine and PDK, and I actually think Stelvio handles better. Make no mistake Macan handles excellent as well, but to me macan feels like their top tier engineers designed how the car should drive like, which probably explains macan performance in the moose test. However the Stelvio drives much more like a go-kart, more raw and more fun. I can see people prefer Macan but personally I love how Alfa drives. But I agree Macan is better in every other aspects.

    • @dirkcuypers6669
      @dirkcuypers6669 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A car is more than "features and tech" for some people. Drive them both and u will notice they are very different. If you like driving the Stelvio puts a smile on your face where the Sportage wil take you in a nice way from point A to B without a smile in the short twisty peace of tarmac you drove to arrive in Point B
      When you really don't care about these things you're right and the (tech equipped) Sportage will probably be te better option and there's nothing wrong with that.. Calling people stupid just because they have other priorities to what a car should bring them seems very... What was is you said? ... Stupid
