    I had a similar problem in my XJ a few years back before I put my new suspension on. It had so much play that when I hit a bump hard enough, the trans lines smacked in the suspension and broke them. As soon as I felt it slip, I pulled over and shut it down, got out and saw trans fluid pouring out. I had it towed home, repaired the lines and did a flush. This was atleast 50,000 miles ago. The AW4s are quite resilient as long as you keep them flushed. Shifts just as smooth as ever

    This is why I used a steel line on the high-pressure line all the way up and to the transmission . Great save on the General but Jeeps don't like regular ATF it will kill the clutches in the transmission so I'd get some ATF +4 and flush the system out . Now the question is what's the new wheels for ??

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It would be optimal to run all steel lines, unfortunately I modified them for a trans cooler. New wheels are an option for the XJ build 😊. Couldn't pass up free!

    Same thing happened to me while I was road tripping down in Orlando a few years ago. Bad water pump bearing slung the belt off and flung it around the engine bay. An 18-wheeler took pity on me since I was in the far left lane and blocked off 4 lanes of traffic while a few people jumped out to help me push. Luckily I broke down right in front of an Advance, haha.

    I still cannot understand why Jeep put the transmission dipstick in such a lousy location for the ZJ ONLY. Similarly equipped WJ's (4.0L and 42RE trans) have the dipstick tube on the passenger's side like the XJ's have. On my "to do" list is retrofitting a WJ dipstick into 98 ZJ and the Mrs .97 ZJ which are the same color (PJ7) as the General. By the way, he looks very handsome with the new tires.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought it might just be a weird 42re design. the sticks are pressed into the pan on the AW4... weird

      I just put these same tires on my WJ. So far I thoroughly have enjoyed them. First day was pouring rain and I was definitely doing 15 over on the interstate with amazing traction. Sure glad they changed that dipstick up though.

They really just chopped off the cooler lines as short as they could instead of routing them safely away from the fan, going to have to do some modifications to my lines I don't like how close they are to that fan, and zip ties don't last very long in heat/cold conditions anyways, let alone out in the open elements under a vehicle.
      I just had an idler pulley failure a few weeks ago that caused a broken serpentine belt and parts and pieces went through the radiator, as well as caused a blown head gasket, about $1300 later in repairs its back on the road but I'd rather prevent stuff from failing than let it go now that I know what those lines are close to YIKES!!

    Murphy's law...transmission fluid line "snafu". Glad you got it figured out boy scout style. I like the JK wheels and free is a bargain, lol. Attitude determines altitude. Jeep, My Life, lol. Btw, backspacing on those wheels are 6", if they are 18 x 7.5. You may need a spacer/adapter if you bolt pattern is 5.0 on 4.5 on ZJ's and as you probbly know, the bolt pattern on lugs/axle on a JK is 5.0 on 5.0. Bora custom makes the 6061 aluminum, spacer/adapter you may need. In order to get the stance you want and clear brake calipers and lower control arm, etc. You may find that 2.5- 3 inch thick, hub and wheel centric 5x4.5 to 5.0x5.0 will most likely work. Good luck, Gods speed.
