GREAT job on both parts of this trans fluid and filter change; along with new lines! You're very informative and fun to watch. You NEVER loose your cool always flowing with whatever comes your way.
Great job Dan and the Jeep is looking good!-I'm about to do the same on my 2000xj-and was wondering why you bought so many O-rings?-How many and what size go on or in the dipstick tube-you never showed or said?--and do you not have to put an O-ring on the end of the lines after the plastic locks-before you push them into the connectors 800-714??--or just the clip only??-thanks in advance and keep up the great videos 👍
For future reference, the bit about ATF-4 was actually a service bulletin _after_ the warranty on all AW4s had expired, and many XJ owners steer clear of it. Next time you change the fluid I highly recommend using Royal Purple's MAX ATF instead. My XJ went from awful long sloppy shifts to being so tight and quick you'd think it had a rebuild. Otherwise, I'd absolutely stick with Dex 3 instead of ATF-4 as per the manufacturer requirements and not Chrysler's bad advice. Just don't switch if you're only draining the pan as ATF-4 and dex/merc should never be combined and will damage the tranny. Find a shop that has the machine that uses the transmission's own pump to flush the fluid and not compressed air. I also made the mistake of using ATF4 so I just wanted to share my experience. Cheers! ✌️
I like the way you JEEP! I do the same! This summer, from headliner to bearings, ball joints, to bearings all around to headlights w/markers, and refinishing the wheels(be sides refurbishing the bumpers and tow hitch, along with pumpkin covers painted in red), I also painted the grill in black with red inserts! It's a gray(silver) 5.2 ZJ unlimited. Now still looking for 242, for my conversion. Oh yeah, and them bump stops for the rear!!! I do like the way you "JEEEEEEEP"!
I( did a stupid thing today. I cut my high pressure line when sawing through my exhaust. Using your vid as a guide during this stupidity-induced emergency.
Whats up man! Question: is it true about atf+4 not recommended for AW4 trannies? I have a 98 xj classic and looking to do the same thing as you here. But the forums has this heated battle between atf+4 and dex/merc. Do you know why that's is? I see your running ATF+4 and just wondering if it's the right move, thanks man, strong island!
@@ProjectDanH well. It’s been 50k miles, and during that time, I only added barely a half a quart. They held up good. But it’s time for a flush, so I’m gonna do the whole repair
Hey dan if u end up needing to do any brake lines in the future ..call lines to go .. perfect fit replacements ... i did my sons 2001 laredo and used stainless steel... awesome place to order from ..and great prices
Good work! Mine look just like your old pair. It was a miracle they didn't pop when I pulled the oil pan out. Will snag some lines through your links when i get around to doing the jobs I already have parts for =]
Dan, I didn't see you use the tools from the kit you ordered? are they absolutely necessary? or can I get away without them? Also, how many connectors will I need?
8:23 , the blue decoupler. You Definitely need em to remove the trans lines from the radiator... the cheep plastic ones may work, but if its been on there for 20 years it will probably be stuck and require the metal ones from the kit. They are a B!!!
good video friend, just one question? I understand that if you change the transmission oil for new oil, the transmission starts to neutralize. I would like to know if this is just a myth or if it is true. Greetings from ZONA HOSTIL OFFROAD I hope you could answer my question .... and mention me in one of your videos answering this question I have.
Hey Dan I have a question for ya. My high pressure line that clicks into the radiator has about a 1/4in of play back and forth, I have and aftermarket radiator with a 5/16 elbow. Do you know the diameter of the elbow fitting in your radiator?
mi friend i am in perú i have a zj 5.2 95´s a change the MAP the TPS and the IAC but I steel burning fuel get 15 km per gallon i think to change the oxygen sensor and that's my las change I don't have the power it used to have, but i have new sparks wired, new sparks new sparks thins, maybe i change the injectors the engine is already fixed so mechanical is ok so i think is electrical problem, i am in a project is a incredible 4x4 have power, have force but don't pas 2000 rpm star stall, so i run until 2000 rpm and wait the transmission make the change, sorry for my english i speak better than write
I just have to replace the little plastic piece it drips a little bit lol but yeah your videos are very helpful I’m not a mechanic at all so stuff like this helps me more than you think appreciate it 🖖🏼
Great video Dan. My 93 Cherokee sport has the AW4 tranny as well, but the manual states Dexron 2, ( I used 3) I see you are using ATF plus and at 11:47 you show the write-up, got me a little concerned. Do you know anything about that difference ?? Thanks again for sharing (GREAT video).
Thanks buddy, I use a 2001 factory service manual. I think older Cherokee AW4s used Dex. I believe Chrysler developed the ATF as a universal fluid that's good for all Chrysler vehicles. ATF4 is just an improvement.
For everyone ATF and DEX I’ve ran both I’ve even mixed both for 175k and I’ve never had a problem this is daily + weekend wheeled do with this information what you will I’m not an expert
I really learned a lot from this video and I don’t know anything about cars. Thank You Sir for your contribution 🙏🏾

I was hoping you had a video for changing the fluid and filter, A God Send !!
Amen! Glad it helped

HAHAHA! oh man, we've all been there buddy. Glad you were able to fix it!
That's why this was one of the first things I replaced. They were ridiculously difficult to remove and reinstall but it's definitely necessary
absolutely 100% necessary
Good job Dan new you could tackle it and it was a great tip about the trans fluid going from ATF 3 to ATF 4
lol. GLad to help
Nice job buddy.I just did a complete flush&fill and also replaced the pan with one that had a drain plug. This was done on my Ram 1500.
Thanks man! Glad I finally got this one edited and uploaded!
If you take the electric fan out it's kinda easy to get at the lower transmission line at the radiator
true, but it sucks either way. lol
It’s funny i just found out coolant is leaking into my trans cooler so this video and the part number came in real handy
Glad to help, are you going to replace your radiator?
@@ProjectDanH yep I figured with my luck might as well just rip the band aid off and just do it all at once before i nuke my transmission

I need to do this. My lines busted a while back and I flared in some soft lines, but they are starting to seep
oh man, thats a good quick fix but its best to get those new lines in sooner than later!

Hey Brother, Greetings! This baby drives and shifts like new with the new trans oil in it. It works Great!
Odd, my 99 service manual only calls for atf+ on the 2.5L. It calls for Dex/Merc for the 4.0L.
I think the newer ATFs incudes the same stuff as DexMerc
@Project Dan H actually very different, I made a comment regarding this
Hi mr were did you get transmission pan from
