I was just gifted one of these saws from my grandmother recently. The saw used to belong to my grandfather who bought it brand new many years ago. I recall my grandpa teaching me some of the basics of carpentry with this saw. As of 5 years ago, shortly before my grandpa passed away, the saw still worked beautifully. I’m excited to get it all cleaned up and ready for many more years of use. Thank you for posting this very in depth video. I’ll be sure to reference it.
"Look at that gross Onan green". HEY! My great uncle (DW Onan) picked that color about 100 years ago. I grew up with Onan Green equipment and paint cans everywhere. :) I searched out this video because I'm restoring a Delta bandsaw and drill press that my dad (Onan Chief Engineer) got from his Onan shop in the 1940s. Great job on a classic bandsaw. I have the 243280 model. It is almost identical. I was thinking mine was probably made in the 1950's, but now I'm not sure if it may be newer than that. The knobs on mine are all chrome plated. The motor is shot but I have an old Dunlop grinder motor that will replace it. Mine is a faded gray color. I like the paint color on yours, I may try to find some paint more like that and repaint mine. The table was very rusty, but not pitted. It cleaned up beautifully. these old machines are made to last if taken care of. I got it and another 2003 Craftsman bandsaw and a Grizzly 1x30" belt sander for around $85. I love it when those deals come along. Thanks for the great video, very satisfying seeing this old champ brought back to life.
Great video. I restored my 1948 Milwaukee 14 inch metal cutting band saw a few years ago, luckily the 3/4 hp Century motor just needed a good cleaning and rewiring the starter switch. The wheel tires were in good shape so I didn't replace them.These are very well made as your video showed. I am very pleased with the machine as I'm sure you are. Thanks for posting.
Just picked up one of these metal/wood saws yesterday. 1965 model. I will use your tear down as a guide when I do mine. Appreciate all the hard work that went into the restoration, AND the video documentation.

Beautiful old quality machine and you gave her the respect that she deserves. A true restoration....not just lipstick on a pig. Now better than factory new with motor and belt upgrades.
I am so grateful for channels like yours! I have a Delta 14 inch model 28-245. I couldn't get the top wheel off to change the bearing. Thanks to your video I now feel safe enough to take it off with a little more elbow grease
Well done! Gave me the inspiration to start my old DeWalt Radial Arm Saw resto. I have a way newer Delta bandsaw that I want to put a low speed gearbox on for dedicated metal saw…. May have to figure that out too.

This little band saw has turned out to be the best tool purchase I've ever made th-cam.com/users/postUgkx5ZrqmYO2uJq_nuU8TopyWxVzn8vqmPUL Once doing the set-up as per the included suggestions, this table top tool has been my go-to saw ever since (8 months as of this review). There are few things I wouldn't attempt with this saw. It takes up much less space than my table saw yet delivers twice as much punch. I've used it to create slices of wood no thicker than an 1/16th of inch by using the POWERTEC BS900RF Rip Fence. For small shop projects this tool can't be beat.
I am so glad I found your channel! I inherited a garage full of tools dating back to my great great grandfather, as far as I can tell. I don't know what I will do with all the hand drills, etc., but I have 2 band saws, lathe, drill press, Shop Smith and on and on. I have no clue how to use the band tool or how it is put together so I will probably watch your video over and over trying to figure out mine. I don't think it is a Delta. I just picked up the wood cutting version of this saw, a few years older than yours, for $60. Somebody painted the whole thing green ( like they sprayed it all down with spraypaint without bothering to clean off any crud or remove any parts) so im tearing it totally down and going through it to repaint and clean everything. Ive needed a bandsaw for years and im so happy to have found this nearby and for a great price. I *am* wishing I could find the lower assembly with the metal cutting gearbox to have that capability but even without it these saws are such amazing machines.
I found out last week, after driving to the bearing supply house on Callowhill St. that Bearing and Drive Solutions (BDS) bought the business of Phila Ball and Roller Bearing. BDS has locations in Cinaminson NJ, Lansdowne, Souderton and Lancaster if you need bearings day of. I’m currently restoring another Delta 14” and enjoyed the video. Thanks.

Did you ever post a video about the motor repair or share a link to what resources you used for the motor repair? I'm having a similar problem with a 1/4hp Delta Scroll Saw motor from the 1940s. Repair shops are telling me to replace the motor, but I'd really like to keep the original with the tool if at all possible.
Did not look to have had a lot of use or abuse. You are very fortunate in finding such a lovely thing. And well done on the restoration looks fantastic.
martin France I agree. It’s a lovely find. Practically all there and in wonderful shape. It’s kind of grating to keep hearing “Oily, corroded, terrible, -“ If I could find one like that, I promise I’d talk nicely to it and tell it how good it looks for coming up on 70 years.
A great restoration and great voice over explaining what you are doing. That’s important for people like myself who haven't got a clue but enjoy seeing old machines brought back to life. As someone with only 18% lung volume at my baseline, can I second your advice about looking after them. I’m not making any plans for my old age. A great video, I really enjoyed it.

My old dad has 3 Delta/rockwell saws. Industrial and old but prolly a decade or 2 newer than that one. Bandsaw blade snapped. Utube seems to say I need silver sauder to repair it. Scroll saw needs a new blade. His old Delta table saw is really heavey, solid and sturdy, the most beautiful table saw I have ever used in my life. It makes alot of newer saws with plastic parts and less power feel like toys

Dude! I restored the brother to your saw. I believe mine is a bit older, and I don't have that awesome cast base, but yours is the only other restoration I've seen with the gear reduction box. I'll have to send you a picture of how mine turned out...
Your observation of the guide material being a lot like knife handle material is spot on. That is a graphite impregnated micarta, I know that Tufnol sells the stuff but I would imagine quite a few companies make graphite impregnated phenolic (yours looks like a linen or canvas type).
Wow, I love that saw. I just bought the same one, vintage 1955, last week, with the open stand, that enclosed stand you have is the best, mind telling us what you paid for it. Also, been looking at manuals on Vintage Machinery, absolutely need to remove he belt on transmission when in high speed mode,I believe later saws could keep both belts on, but manual I’m reading is very clear about it, can’t run both belts at same time. Beautiful saw, you did a fantastic job.

I feel more confident taking it apart now and finding out what might be wrong after watching this. I grew up in Tupelo in the 70s-80s, remember the Rockwell plant well.
Those polyurethane tires are flat because newer wheels have the crown machined into the wheel. Well done video and restoration. I have a slightly newer version of that bandsaw but without the gear box for metal cutting. It is interesting how little that bandsaw has changed over the decades and how many companies have copied the design.
LOL, loved the reference to This Old Tony. One of my favs. Beautiful restoration of a beautiful old machine. Clearly a high-end machine for light industrial work. (My Tomlee Model 40 is far simpler with much fewer parts.)
Great job on a quality machine. I appreciate your attention to details. I just finished rebuilding an old Sioux valve grinding machine from the 70s. Awful shape at the start but all together and running like new. I have another the shop owner wants done. I had to do like you with making thumb screws thatcwere missing. Keep up the great work.

Awesome score and restoration on the Iconic Bandsaw all these years later and its still the most cloned Woodworking tool of all time i believe all the parts from the Harbor Freight , jet, Grizzly and a couple others all fit the Delta one of the bigger ones many people take advantage of is the extension part from Delta btw i believe i’m my Diresta casted his own knob using a faucet handle to make the mold and the other guy who is a retired Shop teacher on TH-cam did the same i forget the channel name at the moment but he has several videos on the 14 “ bandsaws both metal and Wood as well as converting one to do the other and what parts to do it i’m also a fan of Rustoleum products you can save a few pennies buying it by the gallons and spraying it with our own gun/ i use a Campbell Housefeild HVlp self contained unit i bought over 15 years ago for under 200 dollars i ve even painted a car with the same unit spraying a 2 stage Dupont auto paint

I’m working on one now. Purple power is great for taking paint off plastic models. Rustoleum has a color that matches the Delta gray.

Great job on a quality machine. I appreciate your attention to details. I just finished rebuilding an old Sioux valve grinding machine from the 70s. Awful shape at the start but all together and running like new. I have another the shop owner wants done. I had to do like you with making thumb screws thatcwere missing. Keep up the great work.

@@samuelcoffman392 well for me his personality showed poor judgment on proper footwear and safety precautions. I'll be the first to say something to the safety police nut balls on TH-cam, but proper footwear is a must.

Loved it, especially trolling the safety Sallys. I've purchased the blue tires on eBay and been pleased. Orange just looked too much like crap.
For the cast table I use Renassance Wax and works marvelous and I live in Florida were humidity is normally more than 70%.

Awesome score and restoration on the Iconic Bandsaw all these years later and its still the most cloned Woodworking tool of all time i believe all the parts from the Harbor Freight , jet, Grizzly and a couple others all fit the Delta one of the bigger ones many people take advantage of is the extension part from Delta btw i believe i’m my Diresta casted his own knob using a faucet handle to make the mold and the other guy who is a retired Shop teacher on TH-cam did the same i forget the channel name at the moment but he has several videos on the 14 “ bandsaws both metal and Wood as well as converting one to do the other and what parts to do it i’m also a fan of Rustoleum products you can save a few pennies buying it by the gallons and spraying it with our own gun/ i use a Campbell Housefeild HVlp self contained unit i bought over 15 years ago for under 200 dollars i ve even painted a car with the same unit spraying a 2 stage Dupont auto paint
