I used to do this all the time as a child (still do :P). I tried to teach my nieces and nephews this trick, half of them loved it and the other half told me, "That's gross! you can't eat stuff from outside, it's dirty!" I guess I won't be the one to tell them where fruits, vegetables, and the cow their hamburger came from. lol
how does it tastes like? I tryed to buy some of those honeysuckle on ebay, but i still dont have a mastercard. (I never tryed those and never saw a plant like that)
I'm from Georgia they grow wild here, for free lol. it tastes sweet and like not overly sweet because it's one drop. my advise the more yellow the sweeter it is.
Thanks for this video! Loved "eating" honeysuckle from the bushes in my backyard growing up in Maryland. Was telling my Canadian boyfriend about it and he had never heard of honeysuckle, so thanks for allowing me to show him how it's done =)
Hi Nancy ! I'm glad your back ! My oldest daughter lives in Georgia - I wish I were there to visit and I will ask her about Honeysuckle there where she is ! But most of all I wanted to tell you how cute you look with your hair cut short !
We eat the heck out of Red Ixora in Florida. Same method but there's a lot of flowers per cluster. Everyone calls them Honeysuckle though. The Red Ixora grows everywhere here and taste great too.
I went for a walk in the park a couple of weeks ago, found patches of honeysuckle and had to keep stopping my walk to taste. Soooooooooo good! I can't remember a time when I didn't have to have it when I pass it. lol Dena
wow !! And I have always wonder why its called honeysuckle. I get that it has soft sweet smell but the name has 'suckle' in it !! OH MY GOD, I am going to try to taste my honeysuckle this year. Thank you for the video.
thanks for showing us and introducing us to new and old things we wouldn't had the chance to discover... if not for you Nancy...love the Old Sautee store...the Swedish farmer's cheese tasted so good...ordered it on-line ... can't wait to try the H.S. flower nectar, waiting for mine to bloom...
here in Hawaii we have the tiny little red ones. i grew up thinking they were called honeysuckers lol. up until a couple years ago i thought thats what they were really called lol.
No, I didn't know that! Back in Ohio, we use to bite the bottom of the flower off, spit it out, and then suck on the bottom of the flower and get the flavor that way. Wish someone would have shown me your way too.
Im 10 and i eat lots and lots of honey suckle at school our teacher eats it too its amazing also my friend eats it. Every one eats it in my school!!!!!
human mouths, skin and everything else we come in contact with daily has millions more gross germs than honey. In fact, honey has anti-bacterial properties.

Now you must be in high school. Do you still eat honeysuckle?

I was in a neighborhood, so there would be people in their areas, their yards.
I have never tried that but my daughter and all her friends were always eating the honeysuckle nectar. I may have give it a taste, lol!

I remember doing this when I was 10 ( 15 now) and I still do it it's satisfying and tastes good too
We don’t have them in Ontario. Not with the sweet sap they had in Georgia.

That don't barely look like Willem!...lol..you 2 are so cute!
Thanks Susan.
I did this on my way to school each day. I would pick them and put them in my lunchbox for “snacking” during the day 😂😳😲
Lol. I love it! I never thought of storing them for lunch snacks. You are so cool!
At my elementary we had two big honeysuckle bushes, they got rid of them after everyone got stomach aches from the stuff they sprayed to kill bugs.
Awe there cute little old people
Lol. One day!
When I was little, I didn't know what to do and no one helped me, so I just ate it haha.

I love honeysuckle nectar, though there isn't usually enough to taste
@Sarosh00 I never put the word together....honey....suckle. Someone knew about this when they named it!

Lol. Good thing you found it!!
@djAmericantoast178 That's one southern treasure that I don't have in Canada!
He'll love it!
@beckiebenoit40 yup, sold some at the farmers market today! Back in the swing of things now that I'm back in Oh Canada!
i'd like to eat one but i have never saw a honeysuckle in my life.
Sweeeeeettt. I've never eaten those cause I live in Germany and i haven't seen one of those
They are quite sweet.
that's honeysuckle??? I have that all over my backyard!
You are so funny!
Perhaps it depends on the moisture the vine gets.
They have honey suckers at my school and we ate them because we had field day
Good times
i like to eat the yellow ones....
they taste better.........
it is kind of weird, but my garden grows honeysuckle...and I never planted it
Thanks for this. I, too, used to do that way back in the 1960s. Incidentally, are you near a highway? I can hear cars rushing by.
Yes, in Athens, Georgia.
+NancyToday Woah. Your town is right next to mine. Creepy...
we have it at elementary school too but there isnt any bug spray
cute!
do you still make soap?
Thats japanese honeysuckle by the way, its highly invasive.
so if I gather 1000 of them and put it in a stew of sorts will I make honey or something?
Lol a taste isn't enough?
I've never heard of Red Ixora.
@vvlturn I buy them wholesale. LOL
@AquaAnime3314 I guess you don't live in Georgia, then!
Silly, eh, why not get rid of the spray and keep the bushes!

I’ll remove the tag. Thanks.
So how can i get this in a jar of nectar? I'd rather have my nectar before it goes through a slimy little bees organs GROSS
human mouths, skin and everything else we come in contact with daily has millions more gross germs than honey. In fact, honey has anti-bacterial properties.
I don't care, I want pure nectar not bee shat.
You would be dead without bees
+Luke Morrison You're not a fucking bee so you can't really compare the two
Syn Cov I'm a human being, that puts me above a bee and gives me credence to compare the two
I was eating those outside with my friends at gym class
