all you needed was christmass lights that are yellow red or white embedded insided the cottons so that the alteration of light combination would make the individual cottons look that they were igniting a few at a time...but overall very nice project ..simple idea and simple construction.
You could have shaped the normal cotton into the flames shape and then paint it with an airbrush, it is easier and looks the same, maybe even better in my opinion. I love the furnace tho❤❤
*_Yeah cotton might be cheap, but housefires are not._* *_The insides of a synthetic pillow are flame resistant and make for much better fire & smoke effects than cotton._*
To help with the light diffusion, taking off the plastic 'flames' is a good first step, as the naked LEDs are brighter already. Also, using the cotton dry, just pulled apart to get the wispy flame-like shape, then painting them with the airbrush.
the needlepoint mesh he mentions is often sold as "plastic canvas" and comes in various sizes. it's really fun to see the various ways you come up with to express a concept for the gaming space. you could also use old jewelry chains hanging from the mesh to really sell the "metal" effect.
NICE!!!!!!!! Love the innovations!!!!!! I' have a a devil city table I made, a succubus floating palace table and 12 hell floating islands. I'm in the middle of a huge swamp build at the moment but you are inspiring me to dig out all my hell terrain again:)! LOVE your work Brother!!!!! You do AWESOME WORK!!!!!!
Also, for the fire, you could try using twinkling fairy lights and intersperse them in the cotton. Basically the same sort of LED on a string. I've seen battery operated ones made to go into bottles.
Very cool project. If you want a paint that works great for building fire, look at candies. Createx has the H20 range and Schmincke has some in their Aerocolour range.
Knocking it out of the park with the Idols of Torment terrain builds. I always benefit when I see the stuff that *didn't* work when watching a terrain build, so thanks for that. Oh man, I would have lost my mind dealing with those individual tufts.
It probably would have still been the wrong move in this case but just throwing it out there that Rit Synthetic dye definitely would have worked on those spider webs.
For the clear plastic, you can also look in the office supplies in most Dollar stores. They are there as dividers, or sometimes the covers of duotangs.
Backlighting is a tricky task. I found LEDs work best and if too bright you can apply thin glazes to the bulb to tone it down while adding color. Check the light against your material to get the right amount of luminosity before assembling anything too complex.
For flames I love to just take cotton balls and shape them, glue them down and THEN paint them with yellow and orange inks with the airbrush. I think part of your problem was the inks made the cotton sticky and then it didn't shape very well. You don't have to get all the cotton, all the way down to the inside, colored, just the surface.
As always an fabulous and inspiring build! I love it when you try new things and new techniques because it is always good to have more tools in the tool box. With so many products out there it is nice to be able to see the results before you buy.
Power outages while making a furnace for Hell. Hmmm, spooky. Okay, just kidding, but kinda funny. The flames were different, and it was nice to see you persevere in a video even when attempt 1, and possibly 2, did not work.
Awesome piece! Where are the minis from? Did you have a kickstarter I missed? I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but have you tried making flames out of hot glue? Then you could paint them with contrast paints and it should diffuse the light.
just put a small battery powered light in the center of the tea lights one that will fit in that space like the one at the end of your vid just smaller
Thanks for the great content and realistic and honest creation methods. I helps a ton to see your successes and mistakes. Been a fan for several years and enjoy every episode 🤘🏻
Brilliant stuff Jeremy! I think upgrading the lights or even making them controllable could have upped things a little higher. As always, I’m clearly biased in these matters!- on a more serious/sincere point, drop me a note if you’d like to upgrade your electronics capabilities.
Hey BMC, in a couple of your videos you've mentioned a "US supplier" for the foam you use. I looked on your wordpress store and didn't see any foam or link. What's the status on that?
Hey Jeremy, did the granny grating get stiff and almost cauterized after the heat gun? If so, that could be a great way to get it to "set" and hold its shape around curves like that in the future. Another awesome set piece!
Kinda wish you went with blue flames instead of red and orange, youve made hell look like it was dark greens and browns more often than not in your other videos but this time you went more classic
I'm not sure if you're familiar with the classical music piece Requiem in D Minor by Mozart but in my opinion it fits the idols of torment series perfectly. If you have time maybe give it a listen. I dunno just a random Internet stranger's opinion... keep up the great content!

@@RPRsChannel why would a piece of terrain set on fire?
To help with the light diffusion, taking off the plastic 'flames' is a good first step, as the naked LEDs are brighter already. Also, using the cotton dry, just pulled apart to get the wispy flame-like shape, then painting them with the airbrush.
Yea, I think I would just airbrush em next time.

Plastic canvas, a/k/a/ "granny grid".

If you prefer using the candles, you could glue them together as a pyramid or dome to get a staggered height, then glue on the cotton ball flames.
Now all you need is the highway.
And the bells!
@@annasstorybox7906 ah, yes... bells hells.
But he does. It's old Canadian wisdom that life is a highway!
@@abmackay I am the highway, but in a cool way, like a stone.
Great build! Love that you winged it, that's where all the inspiration comes from :)

My wife chuckled at your "discovery" of pan pastels. She's into paper crafting her own cards and has been using pan pastels for years.
For the clear plastic, you can also look in the office supplies in most Dollar stores. They are there as dividers, or sometimes the covers of duotangs.
If your looking for a better light you could always do a led strip there fairly cheap and give of great light especially with a project like that.
Backlighting is a tricky task. I found LEDs work best and if too bright you can apply thin glazes to the bulb to tone it down while adding color. Check the light against your material to get the right amount of luminosity before assembling anything too complex.

As much as this isn't my type of scenario the terrain and everything you're making from it is all really cool.
Thank you for putting out your entire, experimental, process. Very inspiring and encouraging to see you work in an imperfect way. :)
Good to see you back, J!
Love seeing the process with all the failures and victories.

Love this piece, & this can work for a fence or barrier too. 😊
Fantastic idea with the tea lights!

well with that bright light at the end it looked quite cool haha . I will always promote just building stuff on a whim
Good start on Taffy making! 😉
Polyfill and craft paint for flames and smoke.
Great looking as always
I am watching my Idols of Torment shipping updates eagerly!
It's here! It's here! Guess who is painting souls this weekend?

Yea, the minis are from my game Idols of Torment. Check out the website.
Not even 3 minutes in and decided this is my project this weekend
Perfect!
Sold me at LED candle lights! Great work as always man!
Might try one of the jack o lantern lights inside it. They are super bright and available in flicker and strobe.
Love the build!!!
That intro sounded so much like Christopher Lee, RIP. Awesome video again man.
That flame is so freaking nice!
Yeah great stuff man I'm going to give this a shot I like it a lot

The cotton webbing stuff that didn't work as fire would make great entrails
The candles added kinda glowing flicker coals
cranking up the heat
I'd love to play IoT with such terrain 😊

Great vid!
That's one HELL of a piece of awesome terrain Jeremy! 😁

I liked it❤❤❤

@@MyName-tb9oz I've just listened to Night on bald mountain and I'd have to agree that it also fits with the Idols of Torment series.

My priest asked me what my favorite TH-cam channel was
I hesitated for a bit and blurted out “…Pewdiepie” 😬
Cool piece, but not really playable
Sorry but the cotton balls aren't quite right. As the kids say, this ain't it chief
Not my favorite among your projects. The granny grate stands out too obviously for me.
