Scaling up minis/models and turning them into gold/silver leaf statues is such a pro tip. So good for adding that "regal" ambience that really adds a sense of scale in any scatter room as well.
Sometimes I just see a toy, or some kind of packing material and think "I'm going to build something with that." I have no idea what, but I just grab it and start brain storming. It can be a very creativly liberating exercise. Also 100% love the terrain for Idols of Torment. Some of my favorite builds you have done.
I really love that regardless of the game, all of these builds can still be applicable to a variety of other games! Its so awesome to see the creativity and fun you're having with these more unique sculpts and techniques!
The floating rock thingy reminds me of the scene in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey when they first get to hell. Which is to say, that it is extremely awesome.
Man, seeing someone's dream come true is so inspiring and uplifting. I've said it couple of times and I'll definitely say it many more: seeing the Idols of Torment terrain pieces come to existence makes my imagination feel refreshed!
I have so loved watching you go through this journey, and it's really helped me get comfortable with loosening up when it comes to art and dioramas, and just have fun with it! Get messy, embrace the imperfections and just go for it. Love that
I think my favorite thing about terrain for Idols of Torment is that every player will have their own particular style for making something alien, their own vision of heaven and hell, so you'll likely wind up with very distinct terrain from every crafter, making it feel almost like a game of Planescape with each army having their own domain.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I'm personally already thinking up ideas for an army of slime demons and the associated terrain, even though I have nobody to play with. xD
Hey Jeremy I am 6 minutes (ish) into your most recent video, and felt I had to pause and comment. First off I love the floating terrain, totally going to be trying that so thanks. Second you made a comment about having occasionally gone to far when crafting terrain, nonsense I say! I love the way you push at the boundaries of your craft it is what has inspired me to start to dabble in the craft myself. I have watched all of your videos over the last two years (I've gone back and binged a lot of your earlier videos as well), when you "go to far" or have had a result you are not entirely happy with (your mini in the sewer pipe comes to mind) I haven't seen you go to far or fail I have seen you try and push the envelope and maybe demonstrate that you can get satisfaction out of a piece that went wrong on you. Keep crafting, and thank you for being you!!! Cheers from a fellow resident of the 'Peg Glenn
I LOVE this wild approach to terrain building. I'm flying by the seat of my pants for 95% of my terrain/dioramas and I wouldn't have it any other way. Trial and error is the best way to discover new techniques and get unique results. Also, this turned out so well! The floating section awesome!
The initial rock formation almost has a snake head formation with fangs in addition to a Chronicles of Riddick kind of vibe. Well done and again the freeflow of creativity is amazing! Thx Jeremy!
This piece is soooo left field, next level creativeness it surpasses the word ‘awesome’ and heads to somewhere never before heard of! This would make a fantastic diorama piece, like a scene from the game held in time for everyone to look at and ponder just how the story ends. I tip my hat in respect to your skills as a modeller and a story teller. 🙏🏻👊🏻🤘🏻
Great ideas...people tend to get caught up in repeating the same things...we like to 3d print and paint our stuff. We sometimes look in other hobby forums (dollhouses, trains, etc.) for new inspiration. Love turning old minis into statues.
Thanks for continuing to share your creative process with us. Even tho I don't create this type of stuff, you always inspire me and I learn a little something everytime. Thank you.
Your sentiment in changing our thinking is reflected in one of my favorite pieces of advice: "Change the process, change the outcome." Want to create something new and different? Change the way you go about it. Force yourself out of your comfort zone. Mick Gordon gave this advice in a GDC talk on how he made the iconic DOOM (2016) soundtrack and I think about it ALL the time.
This is how I craft lol I have been working on a diorama type thing for literally months b/c I'm just taking my time, waiting for supplies to come in the mail, finding cool stuff to add, changing my mind mid way, etc. I'm almost done (I think) and it's just some forest ruin and a cave. I'm just making it for fun b/c I can. This is supposed to be a fun craft, not a stress inducing hobby. This turned out cool by the way! I really want a resin printer, I almost have the husband convinced lol
I find taking a freeform approach to Art is always a surprise. No one knows what's the result will be and that's the fun of it. Coming into a project with only a rough idea of a plan can let your imagination run wild. That's not to say there won't be bumps in the road, but sometimes it's just nice to approach a piece with no idea what the results are going to be.
This gives me some strong Mortal Kombat Outworld kinda vibes! Could definitely see a set design like that being in the older MK movies, and I mean that in absolutely the best way possible!
I love your channel. I like how you keep things simple and different every time period you don't go bigger better bigger better bigger better you just keep it real
I love this build…floating terrain isn’t featured enough. I like your cover with the ragged bridge, I would have gon be n a rope direction. Wrapped the dowel in twine and stringing a couple more ropes from supports as hand holds. Both work equally well. Thanks for sharing.
"What I do have is confidence and a lack of fear to just try things." And also insulation foam is a lot cheaper and easier to work than Italian marble. :) Always consider the price of failure. In a lot of crafting and mini painting it's "about $5 dollars and I have to do it again." That's not a big deal.
I like bases because they clearly define the line where terrain effects are. I've started saving the cardboard plates that come with pizzas. Also have you used any texture spray? You can get it from WM, HD, lowes, ect. You have to MOG pudje it first, but it can cover a lot of space in a little time.
I made a floating platform terrain with 3d printing and tensegrity. Using nylon thread to create almost invisible tension. Looks decent but was a nightmare to put together.
Regarding taking the statue from green/verdigris to gold: I just had a moment of gut instinct that the original green could have popped more if you instead changed the rock to red or tan.
AWESOME video. I needed this today :) And as for loot studios, they have such cool stuff that I am on my second month of supporting their patreon, and I dont even have an resin printer yet XD

Manny eaons ago a Dragon was turned to stone in a great battle. Worn away by wind and time it's petrified remains draw together the forces of good and evil to combat.
Amazing idea! I was wondering if you did the wooden bridge with copper wires insted os a wooden dowel. You could curve it and gives the bridge a dynamic shape...

It would be cool to do an entire setup similar to how Total Warhammer 3 handled certain sections of the Chaos Realm!
This is such a dope piece. Honestly I would LOVE to see you make a diorama that has this kind of floating island.

That coliseum set has some models that would actually look pretty good in Idols..
Absolutely!
That is awesome! I love how you've put the statues under the edge of the rock, like they're holding it up on their shoulders. That looks amazing.
Damn, this looks so great. I can't wait to see more stuff like this, and to check out the system!
The terrain looks absolutely awesome for Idols of Torment. I can only imagine how dope a game setup with these peices would be. Keep crushing it!
I'd be 100% excited for more floating rocks in your builds. This one just added so much flavor.
