Howard was never anti-establishment. That’s a common misconception. Howard never wanted to be anti-establishment he wanted to make the establishment more fair. Also, as people get older their mentality changes. This isn’t privy to Howard. This happens with most people. It’s the decade theory. Every decade starting when you’re born, you change. So when you’re 10. You don’t really care. When you’re 20, you care to rebel. You wanna go against the grain even if you don’t fully agree with every aspect of the other side you wanna start making your own decisions. You don’t wanna be told anything. By 30, your brain is fully developed. You should be building a brand by then. You start to realize the obligations you have in life. By 40 you start to realize just how short life is, and most stop caring to clown other people or pick at the little things. Like trying to rebel on every little thing like when you were an undeveloped 20. After 40, it’s downhill. But recently, we’ve added 10 years to this system. So back in the day most people were out their house fresh outta college at 20 or early 20s. Well, now the majority aren’t even leaving home n having kids until their 30s. Most people now don’t reach their peak career until early 40s.
But Howard was never actually a TI-establishment. He saw value in going against the grain. He captured the hearts of the rebellious 20s. But the guy is in his 60s now I believe. Also, people get confused because they think he’s a righty. He’s not. He was always super liberal but his fans were mostly conservative Republicans. He only leans right SOCIALLY. And social politics is based solely on emotion and feelings. As he got older, like the rest of us, we eventually learn the difference between policy and social politics and how social politics is an at face value view. It has no depths it doesn’t explain why, only what is…..

I stopped listening in 2016 when I felt he had completely sold out his fan base. He promised a Revolution when moving to satellite but almost as soon as the ink was dry on the $100 million check he started doing a 4 day/week show. Then the endless vacations and endless stories of luxury boats, luxury cars, parties, besties with celebrities. He completely became the person he would mock when he was starting out. That’s when I bailed out and haven’t missed it at all. Today from what I heard he is a Uber politically correct bitter old man trying to be relevant. He is 7 years past his expiration date and should have left on a high note.

The Stern show was at it's very peak when Jackie and Billy were there and I can explain why: On terrestrial radio you had the seven dirty words (George Carlin) that you could not say. This created a comedic tension that would force them to push the envelope, hard. That's where the funny stuff was. Jackie and Fred did most of the writing and they would come up with some real gems. Like when Billy did Nelson Mandela; that was hilarious. You could never do that today. Or Marge Schott. Now they can use whatever dirty words they want but it's not funny. The cackling laughter of Jackie is the missing ingredient. When contract talks broke down, they should've kept their powder dry. Eventually, Jackie would have accepted their offer. He said so. The others felt betrayed. Not Stern but Robin, Fred and Baba Booey.

I think it was a combination of 2 things - he listened to his no talent wife who probably encourage him to hold out for more money & he actually thought Howard would never replace him - when he was replaced I know he was shocked - when he shouldn't have been. One of the biggest missteps in show business history. My problem with Howard and most people say this - he is notoriously cheap - Robin & Fred & Jackie for that matter should have been paid more - Robin & Fred accepted being underpaid - Jackie - right or wrong wanted to get paid more - too much more in my opinion but he was right about them being underpaid. Howard had the power to ensure his people were taken care of - he just didn't care to make sure that they did - he was always the boss until it came to paying his people decent pay (not over pay them - but more than they were getting) Everyone else outside of Garry are on the low scale of pay - getting paid by Siruis but no where near others in their positions are making - which Howard is okay with because he is severly overpaid from Sirius for 3 days of work.

100% TRUE: In early Jan. of 1980,
I was new PD of W-4, Detroit and I
heard a scratchy cassette of Stern
    on WCCC-AM, Hartford. Used my
    birth name, DICK HUNGATE, then.
Flew into Hartford w/my GM, Wally
Clark, and met Howard @ Holiday
Inn, downtown. He was making 14K
(incredible, huh?) & we offered him
30K, which he JUMPED on. Howard
    started on mornings and afternoons
were handled by Mark McKuen. I did
middays and each day M-Fri. Stern &
I had lunch at two at a veg. place in
    Detroit's Greektown area known as
"The Old Parthenon". He had ZERO
EFFING ACT, but I gave him tons &
tons of time/rope to get his shit
together. All this & more, the TRUE
story of his career was written by
Paul Colford, "King of All Media: the
    UNauthorized biography of H. Stern"
and Howard was livid when the book
came out the week before "P. Parts"
the movie. He TOTALLY omitted me
    from his puff-piece AUTObiography,
but everyone from Doug Podell of
WRIF, Detroit to my former boss at
93.3 WMMR, Philly, Jeff Pollack to
    consultant Fred Jacobs ALL know
this true version. After WWWW did
a switch to country, I returned to
Philly as PD of 94 WYSP and, ALSO
not just bullcrap, there in early '81
I invented the Classic Rock format.
Haven't spoken even one word with
    Stern since 1981.

This is strategic to me, whether conscious or unconscious on Howard's part. These are the people who could keep him in his present status and also propel him further in the industry where he stands at the moment. But what about the folks who helped him get where he is today? Where is the gratitude for those who were in there early years besides Robin, Gary and Fred? They deserve respect too. Sadly, Howard is not as evolved as he thinks he is. Who knows what Coleman would have added in series but would have to think he eouldve created chaos… 1987 I am fairly “autistic” with my knowledge of that team. I can recall dates of games and what happened pretty much throughout. Clark was a monster. That team didnt pitch like 85 team but if Clark & Pendleton didnt get hurt, pretty sure it would have been advantage Cardinals. (Plus Twins cheated with their Dome-blowing wind out during Teins at bats and in during STL plus added crowd noise) Clark turned his ankle in September, maybe eorst injury in STL history. So many STL’ra get pissed at new baseball (ie K, HR or budt). Those teams w speed and D were so different than snything ever offered. As for Andujar, he was toast. Just looked at his numbers… 4 straight years of alot of pitching

I listened to Howard's radio show for many years and loved it. His anti establishment humor was so very funny. No one was safe with Howard and he brought out the hypocrisy from so many people and entities. Sadly, that has all changed and now Howard has become part of the establishment that he found so hypocritical and made fun of. Now Howard wants to be the friend of all those rich celebrity hypocrites and the WOKE political establishment. Howard is suffering from burn out and it is time to say goodbye. His genius will be remembered by many of us; however, Howard has lost that gene that made him so wonderfully funny. The Howard Stern party is over.

During a meeting J K Rowling and Daniel ( Harry Potter ) talked about the overwhelming feeling of power they got sometimes when they were in front of large crowds. And the feeling that the fans were so loyal, they felt they could have asked them to do ANYTHING and they would have.
Howard went from a ordinary working family man….to a mega wealthy..Powerhouse in radio.. and other media. Jessie Ventura when considering running for President even asked Howard to run as Vice President with him. Obviously knowing Howard’s power.
I think Howard just can no longer relate to Ordinary people, hence his anger towards them, because he’s ashamed he used to be one.
This helped set the stage of his wanting celebrities instead of commoners and or strippers on his show. ( I believe snobby Beth helped with that switch and pulled him up to her level, his first wife kept him grounded) it’s not that people can’t change or grow, it’s just that Howard loved the kind of radio format he developed, and that thousands of other radio personality’s tried to copy.
And during all those years he was brainwashing his staff and audience into believing he was the King of all media, he Brainwashed himself into believing his own B.S. A Hypnotist who was on the show once said he thought Howard’s Staff was permanently under Hypnotic suggestion, because they were all so easily Hypnotized. Howard who usually jumped at any interesting subject, pretend he didn’t hear it.
It now makes sense why one of the staff members stated after about a month of no longer working there, they felt they were coming out of a trance. There are different ways to hypnotize people and audiences, a Man who hated Hitler said he once attended a large gathering where Hitler gave a Speech. He said it was as if everyone was hypnotized and under Hitlers control. So strong was Hitlers power, that he felt himself giving himself over to Hitler and he had to fight the feeling.
It might be why Howard has such a problem with Benji, he never drank all the coolaide., and was therefore not completely under his control, like Gary and Jason. What grown Man almost breaks into tears at the thought they disappointed their boss in any small way? The number of times the staff talked about how they all needed Howard’s approval, as if he was a Demi god or their daddy, and they were his adopted children is astounding, pathetic and sad.
I believe his appointments with his psychiatrist, are to talk about how to manipulate and control all the people revolving in his life. From family, to friends, coworkers, bosses, lawyers, celebrities, other business men, women, etc.
And once a programming breaks down, Howard will cut all ties with them. Which helps instil fear into those still in his circle of control.
He truly was and is the Ring Master of his own Circus.

Show has consistently gone downhill. Howard is so obsessed with getting A list celebrities he's left the rest of the show go. Listeners are left with watered down interview of Jennifer Anniston and Hilary Clinton. I'd take an hour of Chuck Zito on 101 any day

It’s incredible how you can go from the best radio show in the world to the worst in only a matter of a few years. I mean everybody drops the ball a little bit but I’ve never seen anybody crash and burn as much as the Howard Stern show I just don’t know anybody who watches it listens to it Howard sterns kind of become the laughing stock. Then you see how he treats his employees he might actually be spawn of Satan I guess that party wasn’t acting
