All that aside, Jackie's ability to maintain his weight has become the most impressive and inspirational thing as I've gotten older. Excellent observation and well deserved by Jackie. I go back with Howard's to WNBC and the 1970's. I proudly left right when he started taking off 3 days a week but I was paying Sirius for 5 days. Jackie is a major reason i started listening to stern as a youngster. I thought he was funny back then, and even when he wasnt funny he was, because everyone else ripping on Jackie was funny. There are a TON of reasons & times that contributed to the show falling off/jumping the shark, you can take your pick… - The movie being the pinnacle of his popularity (& showing its limits) (1997) - The divorce (1999) - Starting therapy & becoming less vicious (1999) - Transferring his 24/7 obsession from the show to enjoying his personal life post divorce (1999-today) - Hiring segment producers (KC, Will, Jason) when that work was previously done around the clock by the main players (1999) - Jackie leaving / Benjy being the new joke writer (2001) - Increased censorship (2004) - Going to satellite & making huge money but losing huge audience & relevance (2006) - Artie leaving (2010) - Getting old & refusing to add younger energy to the in studio crew (2010-today)
Agree with this. Interesting to look back in retrospect. I can't hate on him for getting older or enjoying things, but Private Parts was Peak Howard and Peak Howard influence. It never was quite the same for me after that and even the year leading up to it ("it's going to do 100 million, Robin"). IMO, it came out about 2-3 years too late and was too much about Howard and how great he was. The movie script and bits were great, but America was indifferent to Howard himself. The divorce and Jackie leaving ended the unspoken tension which made the show great...The tension of howard being a married man who can't indulge in his fantasies (made Howard relatable) and the tension of Jackie irritating Howard and vice versa. I'd also add 2004/2005 bashing George W. Bush and the Iraq War (which I believe he supported at first) made the show an instant turn off for a lot of fans.

It's funny that Jackie's drinking buddy Stuttering John who is about a decade younger hasn't held up as well as Jackie. Moral of the story, Jackie stopped and SJ is still downing Coors Lite
Jackie left the show because he was only interested in bringing his comedy to the world. Forget about the national exposure the Stern show affords, doing jokes on TH-cam for a few thousand views per appearance is enough for Jackie.
Jackie doesn't have millions that Howard has, but he's the same soul as he was 20, 30, or 40 years ago. Time has been kind to him...I think there is a lesson in that - laugh more. The best would be when they would all make fun of Jackie, but Jackie would take it like a man - unlike Fred and Robin. Radio gold. Thanks for the memories. I do think he was set up to leave by Stern and Buchwald because they wanted a younger voice. I admire Jackie at least had the guts to stand up for himself unlike Robin and especially Gary and Fred who spent their whole life/career being subservient to Howard. Did Howard Sellout? He's been a sellout since he left BU. It's just the audience and culture changed and he dropped the shock jock schtick. What we see today and the last 15-20 years is closer to the real Stern - the schitk is almost completely gone. Howard doesn't have the same love and loyalty to his audience as Don Imus or Rush Limbaugh did. He went to Satellite so he wouldn't have to compete in the ratings game anymore and he could work a lot less. Kinda took his ball and went home. Lost influence and relevance. AGT was a ratings nightmare. Did anyone buy his last book? Are his interviews really that good? Seemed unprepared for Paul Simon's interview. It will be an interesting legacy/obituary for sure.

I have to agree. Howard made me laugh very hard back in the day with quick jokes. Not so much in past 20+ years
@@STWEEKLYStern is unrecognizable now.
Used to see Jackie do his act and play his own songs in a one-man show in a dive bar called the Neptune Pub in Uniondale, NY. Sat on stage with his guitar and a tambourine on his foot. Telling his mostly-lame jokes and interacting with the audience. Lotta fun
He a good man
@STWEEKLY He really was a nice guy.. when I used to see him. Crowd loved him. 😁😁
Stern was never as funny as he was with Jackie. People talk bs about Jackie’s standup being corny, etc, but his wit is razor, razor sharp. Tremendously quick.
Agree 10000 percent
@@STWEEKLY For the 50th time, I just saw Howard’s interview with Mr. T from summer 2000. Throughout the interview, it’s Jackie dropping line after line. It’s on TH-cam. Your face will hurt laughing so much.
@@vincedidiana5781 he was incredibly quick no doubt
I think Benjy had the best sense of humor, because every time I heard him chuckle in the background, I would rewatch the clip to see why he chuckled and as soon as I figured it out I would die laughing.
Yeah still not sure on Benji😂
@@STWEEKLY sounds like he rejected your invite to do an interview or something haha. I’m not defending the guy btw, I’m just saying. If he laughs it’s for 1 of 3 reasons:
Something awkward happened between the staff, he catches someone in lie, or someone’s social status got lightly dinged as a result of whatever was just said. Jacky’s actual laugh is still more contagious, but Benjys timing is always a thing of beauty if you ever play it back.
Yikes
@@GuyWithTheThingOnTheTable yikes? What do you mean by this reply. Be specific with your answer
Haven't listened to hypocrite howie since 2018 when he turned into a liberal simp clown. The best parts of the show were Jackie and Artie hands down. Love u man
Truth
There should be a shirt with ”Who? Me?”.
Want one? Done!
@@STWEEKLYI live in Sweden so it would get way to expensive for me with the shipping. But Thanks for the offer. Great interview btw 👍
@@mvd3517 well it has been created if you get second thoughts!!! Ha… great idea and awesome to hear there’s a fan out there in Sweden
Jackie and his plugs 😆
I loved the E plugs. Howatd had to hate those
No, I think it's VERY fair to say that it's the consensus because it is. Everyone feels that way
Agreed
Jackie and Fred era was the best. Show was over after September 11
Interesting date to choose! I would go 1-9-06
I'll order your DVD but you have to include copies of Big Orange Marble and All Folked Up. Nancy was the Queen of Long Island. Kick Rocks Carly Simon.
Hot dogs and donuts too
Watching stuttering John's downfall has become an unnerving, hilarious past time lately
Very strange for sure
Hey this is pretty random but I’d love to know if that lie detector guy Ed Dorian was legit or not lol. Seems like they just gave faulty results to troll the people being interrogated 🤣
Funny you ask. I just received an email from him. Will talk more about it on an upcoming update but he did have his own business after leaving the company he did it for
@@STWEEKLY I still think he gave faulty results, like with making Pamela andersen fail if she wanted Howard haha
@@STWEEKLY is your first name Pam anderson? Lmao 🤣 one of the funniest moments on the show. I’m kinda curious @STWEEKLY who were your 3 favorite stern interviews?
I LOVED the Vincent gallo one. I wish they brought him back, he just disappeared I swear. The Jim Carrey ones were awesome too.
@@jamesgarcia3555 yeah I dont think he was being truthful
@@jamesgarcia3555 never thought of this but McCartney first time, always enjoyed Jesse Ventura on there, Satah Jessic Parker? I kid… I usually like the people I like on there
Why does he keep saying that Nancy had "nothing to do with" his apology? She had EVERTHING to do with it. If she wasn't angry, he wouldn't have apologized.
Excellent point
SNL is really blowing it not having Jackie do Joe "The Jokeman" Biden
I like that. He has way more energy
When did Chris weidman get his own podcast?
He put on some weight (I am taking that compliment )
How many times are you going to have Jackie on to talk about this? I think both of you need to let it go
I enjoy Jackie. I thought there was enough new stuff in there
I liked his documentary
As did I
Great interview.
Thank you sir
"you look better than all of them I would say" glad Jackie pretty much ignore that and kept talking. The interviewer is cool. But you have to knows when someone trying to stir the pot so you can have a negative reply and they can headline their video with a negative title for clickbait!
Exactly!!!
If he just would have been reasonable and negociated his contract realistically he would have had a long career and would be wealthy and financially independent.
Could be. Seems ok though now too
Howard will have a fit when he sees that shirt
Ummm its from cutting crew song, er… Larry Sanders show
That's killer shi*! Cheers
Give Rodney a chance!
How old is Jackie anyway? He still looks like a happy guy.
Where’s Nancy?
Waiting for an apology!
Howard Stern ripped off Larry Sanders with that incessant "hey now"
Hey now!
Does anyone remember the amazing pet lady screaming like a psychopath?
Kind of?
I just wanna apologize to my wife Nancy for, uh, the Jessica Hahn bathtub incident. It was stupid, and, I'll never do anything like that again and I love you and I'm very sorry, and I'm very sincere, and, um....please don't make a...a mockery of this. I'm serious. I'm sorry, I'm not tryin to bring the show down, I just wanted to apologize. Thank you. She's very upset. I'm done, Howard.
So great
Enjoy ur life ur routine ur well earned house Jackie
He really is winning at life imo
Howard isn’t funny anymore!
Agree
He called Beetlejuice a moron but Beetlejuice is more of a legend than he will ever be. He's funnier too
Was an interesting take indeed
He's not lying
@@freeecountryy tru dat
It's funny that Jackie's drinking buddy Stuttering John who is about a decade younger hasn't held up as well as Jackie. Moral of the story, Jackie stopped and SJ is still downing Coors Lite
Interesting that they have had still an up and down relationship through the years. Didn’t think they would stay in touch honestly
Try 2 decades. John is 57...Jackie 75. I think it's all about attitude!
@@xhal76 agreed and Jackie appears to gotten his alcoholism under control and SJ mo
Jackie left the show because he was only interested in bringing his comedy to the world. Forget about the national exposure the Stern show affords, doing jokes on TH-cam for a few thousand views per appearance is enough for Jackie.
Im sure Howard said no. Jackie was great for the show.
Yes he was
Jesus. Some things never change. To listen to Jackie is to listen to a promotion.
And Jacky messed up. He should’ve gotten a replacement job with a guaranteed offer elsewhere FIRST, to use as leverage come renegotiating with Howard.
True
Benji is Howard’s Pisan.
Yes , Howard got tired of the goyem Martling
@@I-Red exactly he put the fat Mazza Cristo in his place
Interesting take I am now hearing from others here
Jackie doesn't have millions that Howard has, but he's the same soul as he was 20, 30, or 40 years ago.
