I thought it'd be more of a hangover cure, like Irn Bru. ...I miss the original formula. Modern Irn Bru got violated by the sugar tax in the UK, though they are still selling the 1901 "Classic" formula in 750ml (25 fl oz) bottles, and I hear it's pretty good. While I'm not normally a fan of paying a high price for fizzy pop, I am not opposed to paying a premium for quality, especially when the bar has been set so low by Tory hog-roasts-to-be approaching the problem from the wrong angle. I should just bite the bullet and buy a few bottles of 1901, but they are kinda pricey, and I've got other nice sodas to polish off in my new mini-fridge before filling it up again.
It's mostly San Pellegrino fruit pop in there, but also some 750ml bottles of Fentiman's Curiosity Cola, one of my favourite colas, and a few 330ml bottles of Virgil's Black Cherry, which is one of the best sodas I've ever had. And of course a few East Asian beers and Stella Artois, 'cause I do like a nice smooth beer every now and then.

The Genesis version was always my Mom's favorite game we had, beating out Aladdin.
In fact, even though they still have a fully functional Genesis and an unopened one, I got her and Dad a Mega Retron HD to play their Genesis games. She occasionally plays Cool Spot and Aladdin, especially when she's sick and in bed.
It might be nostalgia, but I view this game fondly, and always have fun whenever I play it with her.
I think that, back then, even mediocre games are great when experienced the right way, and I think that has made me into a man of variety who can see the good in most games to enjoy them for those rather than gripe about the bad.
(Now fighting games are another matter entirely. I love them, but don't get me started...Lol)
Maybe I'll do a let's play of Cool Spot sometime, perhaps with Mom. That is, if my channel grows enough for people to care to watch that kind of content from me.

I loved playing my dad’s Sega copy when I was little. We only got video games on the weekend but when my brother and I got good grades he'd move all the tvs out to the dining room (my family never threw away anything so we had a bunch that half worked), buy a bunch of frozen pizzas and fries, we'd call our friends and we'd hook up every console we owned and have what amounted to a personal arcade. We never beat the game because inevitably we'd switch to either an epic Smash bros tournament or sonic or a two player run of gauntlet with two other elementary schoolers shouting directions, but trying and failing to play Cool Spot was always part of it.

It was colourful, a bit challenging and the exploration thing was more commonplace in games back then. I wouldn't spend 70 bucks on it though, or whatever it would have been sold for.

Weird, Good Vibes Gaming was just talking about this game in their last show. I had never heard about this until then, and now Jirard makes a video about it. It's like when you learn a new word and hear it multiple times in a day.

I actually had this game back then and as a kid it wasn't even obvious to me this had something to do with 7 up. Kinda fun but also pretty hard.
Levels had a lot of verticality with hidden stuff everywhere. Death effects of enemies reminded me of the mega drive aladdin game

Little child me loved playing it back in the day though I never, on any difficulty, managed to beat the last few levels. I remember once I managed to reach the last level (second beach one) but never made it through. Up until I stopped playing I think the train level was the last one I finished on the regular level, maybe little more (since I also remember having reached the sunset boat more than once) before my last Game Over happened and I had to start from 0.

I freaking laughed so hard at this video!!! So years ago I bought a Sega Genesis (model 1 I think?) with cords, controllers, and games. Cool Spot was one of games included. I cleaned the cartridge, then tested it after it was dry. After playing Cool Spot for 5 or 10 mins. I immediately thought it was boring, and had no interest in playing. That meant if I wasn't going to keep it, it was going to be sold. That's what I did with it. Had the same experience with Bubsy: Claws Encounters of the furred Kind (also for Genesis). I may have gotten both games in the same lot too. I can't remember.

Good review. Yada yada. Dude, I watched the FF7R review over the weekend and coming in today to watch this one all I have to say is congratulation on your weight loss. You look so much thinner in a year. I know you’ve talked about your struggle with work/life/health balance before, but you are looking so fine. Like a god damn three course meal. Not even a snack. Great job man.

As someone who lives in the UK - you know where we had that FidoDido wanker - all references to 7-up were removed from our MegaDrive (being what us and the rest of the world calls the Genesis) version of Cool Spot. He surfed on a generic green bottle and all the soft drink (what we call soda) references were of course there. But with no internet to find the answers it too a while for me to realise that it was a tie- in game at all.
My point? Well all I saw was a very cool well made game by Dave Perry which I very much enjoyed. I didn't have a hope in hell of ever completing it. I was never remotely good enough. I simply loved playing what I found to be a delightful joyful experience that was funny, charming and very well made. I have no idea whether the 'UNCOLA' letters were changed outside of the US because I was never good enough to see even one; I didn't even know that was thing until today happening upon your video. I may check out a MegaDrive lets play to find out.
What I shame though that all you can see is frustration, which I understand the reasons for don't get me wrong, but not see the charm and sheer fun that Cool Spot is to play. It is an all time favourite of mine to this day and I consider it (as do many others) to be one of the best titles available for the MegaDrive/Genesis.
