His song How Could You Leave Us needs to be next. You don't need anyone to explain his life. He does that in his music. Also, one tip that many people like me who watch reaction videos appreciate is that after you pause the video, when you go back to it, hit the left arrow key once to rewind for 5 seconds. A lot of people miss a lot of things in that moment of unpausing.

It also gives insight into his saying "I wish I had called" which he says here and at least one other song.

NF's Mansion is the foundation of all of his music. He is cleaning his walls of with every song he releases. It's recently culminated with his newest album, Hope. Fantastic messages and even better lyricism.

Even after years every time she sings "Broken legs but I chase perfection" for the first time my eyes start to water for the first time. Every single time I hear this song without exception.
NF's music is just beyond special. He's able to talk about such serious psychological topics in his songs like no other.

I have childhood trauma and PTSD. Because of the way I was raised I actually found out 2 years ago through therapy that I have DID. (I'm 33 now) I have a great support network but still deal with Psychosis almost daily. I do therapy 1 day a week and see a psychiatrist for med evals once a month. I struggle with suicidal ideation and paranoia as well. I have major depression and an anxiety disorder. I just want to say thank you for your work that you do!! I sometimes have a hard time getting through your videos because of triggers but I always finish them later. Thank you Dr. Syl for the work that you do!! ❤❤

I love watching your takes on music. I am a 41-year-old mother of five who in the last two years was diagnosed with some pretty nasty diseases and has prevented me from working any longer. Most days I am stuck in bed. I do see a therapist and a psychiatrist, but ultimately music speaks to be louder than anything else. So I appreciate your mashup of mental health and music. I often want to throw my therapist a couple of songs so she’ll know how I’m doing rather than we have to talk about it. I’m just in a hard transition of life and trying to figure out the new me. I haven’t even even watched this reaction yet, but NF’s depiction of his mansion is something I can totally get behind as far as how I deal with trauma both past and present. So I’m excited for this reaction and thank you for the content. Just know you’re helping people all over the world who feel isolated. And I’m not very expressive so music has always helped me to show others how I’m feeling. Otherwise, you get stuck in the loop of quote I’m OK“. And that’s just not real sustainable. Anyway off my soapbox. Appreciate ya. Carry on. Sending good vibes your way. I only have a few so you better catch them. Lol

The line of him being physical harmed is about his mom's former bf. Looking back on it the same line reminds me of my narcissistic father. I never knew I had a bad childhood until a friend pointed it out. He helped me see how what I saw through rose colored glasses wasn't actually sunshine and rainbows. Helped me see that things that happened to me wasn't normal.

I love NF! I have PTSD and have constant flashbacks and anxiety disorder from my childhood. I won't say much about it, I'm a woman, and was once a little girl, that's all you need to know. But I love him because he's talking about my life only it was my father who was messed up and my mother left and took us with. My mom did her best. But I still had a step dad that beat up my brother and I because we were the smallest. She left him when she found out. I have a wonderful step father now! Since i was a preteen.
Don't worry, I have a psychiatrist. I'm talking to him weekly and receiving the proper care. I will always need it, I'm sure. It doesn't get better overnight.

I like NF's music a lot, Happy that you're reacting to his songs! Clarity by Northlane may be another one to check out (I really like Northlane so I may be biased though lol). It's a metalcore song which may not be up everyone's alley but I think it's interesting in that there's a portion of the song where the singer expresses anger so strong that it feels like he's almost breaking from reality (toward the end of the song "Make of me your scapegoat, ..."). Growing up I was punished a lot for expressing anger(/emotion/needs in general) and I've found that one expectation I have of myself in that regard is to not think/feel too "crazily" when in reality, I know who I am, and if I need to word something a certain way to myself to feel that it gets heard, the best thing I can do for myself *and* others is to express/word it to myself that way. If I am unable to admit to myself how I.. feel(?) emotionally, I'll continue the same patterns and make hurt for others and myself down the line. Clarity uses extreme/poetic language and through that I think it makes me feel more ok with the tribal side of me that is really f-ing pissed about things adults in my life growing up did and got wrong. In addition much of the content resonates but I thought a layer of abstraction out was more interesting to me. Just some thoughts that could be cool to explore relating to the song. But I've gotta watch this vid first! :)
Edit: The song itself is about childhood abuse, being put in pain to numb the pain of the abuser, finding one's voice, and the mental conflict of trying to accept what happened and reach "clarity" while it being so f-ing painful to do so. At least that's my interpretation.

Damn.. Today i took the first step to get into therapy again.. This song is really triggering me but also in a good way, it hurts but its also so so sooo beautiful damn it...
I'm late diagnosed Autistic with possible PTSD and extreme childhood neglect and trauma. I have had involuntary flashbacks for 2 years now, and I am starting to remember stuff that i have suppressed, i knew they had happened, i even talked about them, but the feelings have started to change and it hurts so much more then when i was a kid..
Adults always told me it was incredible how i could talk about traumatic situations without crying or anything - i guess i was never safe enough to feel before recent years..
*EDIT* I guess i might have PPD, since i was first diagnosed with PARANOID Schizophrenia mainly bc i was so extremely paranoid mixed with anxiety. Thanks for that term i will use that to explore!

My Linkin Park votes go to:
      Breaking the Habit
      Figure.09
      Lying from you
      Numb
Imo Breaking the Habit would likely be the most therapeutically rich but I chose the others for similar reasons too. Breaking the Habit and Numb are less heavy than the others. Numb is therapeutically rich but I figured everyone knows the song so xD

You need to do therapy session before how could you leave us. There's a certain order his songs go in that's why the NF JOURNEY is. I highly suggest doing them in order to understand the whole story

Can you please make a video about forgetting memories of the childhood and teenage years? I have difficulty to remember stuff and can't remember an specific trauma event and I don't have flashbacks. I've always wanted to remember but it seems like I can't no matter what I do. What do you think of that? Any suggestions?

@DrSyl and others watching this channel:
If you are interested to read about a part of my story you can read it down below: TW drugs, foster care, child death
I often thinnk that the "family trauma" I experienced would be enough to call it trauma.
Because I did not get hurt trough S* Abuse or physical abuse. But I know mental abuse happened, even if it wasn't meant by my parents. For me it is hard to blame them but it formed me as a human.
After the death of one of my siblings as a 7 month old, just on year before I was born, my dad got addicted to alcohol, later my mom suffered from it as well. My siblings had to go to foster care and I was the only one allowed to stay home with my mom. My dad had to live the first 3 years of my life somewhere else. And all of this just because of one person in Kindergarden who assumed abusive behaviour against my sister (which was never the case and could be proven years later) but nevertheless this situation plus bullying at school lead to a personality disorder , depression, general anxiety disorder and so on. But still I can't remember a lot. I often felt kind of weird when I looked at photos when I was younger and I thought it isn't me on the pictures.
Is this some kind of unconscious repression?
What kind of therapy could help me to remember stuff or is it better to let it be?

Have you done a utube session on
" Complex Objects Relations Theory " that you briefly mentioned in this video.
I would like to know more as I was unfortunately a child that you describe in your video with the caregiver being the abuser.
I have done lots of therapy over the years but that internal , weird conflicting feeling that stays with me as an adult is torture.
I don't think a lot of people realise its not just the physical acts of sexual abuse/ all types of abuse. But the fact its the Carer that can be loving and kind and then do horrific things to you is so difficult to repair.
I wish we could educate people more about this when they become parents. I am a parent and my sons are noe Adults and I was always cautious of words I used etc but I know as parents we all just try to do our best and everyone grows up with some issue from their patents. Just some more on a very inappropriate way

    Great Reaction!
May i suggest, since you checked Ren and NF already out - that you give "COMPLETE - Jordan" a try? It's overseen mostly and without spoilering, i think you will recognize something from "Hi Ren" by Ren there. But he's a outstanding artist in my opinion and he has a talent to talk about his mental issues and alcohol problems which should be definitly heard. Found him like a year ago randomly and since then im waiting and waiting for a spotlight of him - he definitly has not reached his final form yet and has a whole network of rap artists behind him that are also a great journey for that topic, for example "Kogz".
You can also introduce yourself to the whole thing hes connected with by the Song "COMPLETE - Loony Bin (feat The Psych Ward)"
Have a great day and keep the reactions coming - you are one of my favorite channels for them! :)
