The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport R-Line Is An Audi-Like Premium SUV

- With the #AtlasCrossSport joining the #Volkswagen lineup nearly 3 years ago, the 2024 #CrossSport gets some big upgrades that make it even more appealing. The list of changes includes new styling front and rear, improved tech features, a new turbo engine under the hood, and more luxury inside. As a shorter version of the 3-row #Atlas, the refreshed 2024 model is still one of the most spacious 2-row midsize SUV’s on the market.

Took mine on a 3 day road trip and man it was so comfortable and never struggled with power! I got 28 mpg going 70 on cruise… love my atlas cross sport 🥳
Is yours the 4 cylinder turbo ?
@@mikepj1025 yes, that’s the only engine available in the new generation. Drives really well though. 🤩
@@keska01good to hear. I really like them. I get nervous with turbos. Not familiar with them
@@mikepj1025 it’ll be all good, wouldn’t worry too much about it… too much fuss in the internet about it ☺️
How does it handle at 80 to 85 MPH on interstate? Too noisy?
VW: Everybody hates this touch control screen…
….let’s put it in more stuff!! 🙄
Atlas is a great looking car but man I miss the Touareg. Just saw the 2024 reveal Touareg overseas and I was amazed how it looked. Literally looked like an Audi on steroids. If you haven’t seen it look it up it’s insane.
Us silly Americans are focused on brand recognition and hating wagons.
@@atmartensno
It is unthinkable that anything less than V-6 T powers this big car.
Tell that to GM with the 1500
I hope the reliability has gotten better. It seems really nice & I usually like how VW’s drive & feel. I’ve just seen so many hits at the 1st Gen Atlas reliability & problems.
Consumer Reports has it as recommended!
@@atmartens They must’ve improved their reliability then
1st Gen 2018 VR6 owner here. No reliability issues at 70k. Small weird issues: Leak from the roof rails, warranty fix. Driver window when rolled down rattles, a lot. Both the driver and passenger 2nd row reclining levers are missing the plastic cover so when you go to recline or fold the seats folded, you're grabbing bare metal. Other than that, we love it in my fam.
Yeah I’m currently looking for a slightly used suv and this was my first choice. After a lot of research, Atlas and Jeep grand Cherokee have a lot of consumer reported issues. Those 2 were on top of my list because they looked so good. So now I’m down to new pathfinder, highlander (looks boring), and prev gen Lexus gx460.
They should have him as a consultant for every car brand to make recommendations. He is always spot on . I totally value his opinion on cars
She's great!
I always like this SUV, even tho the interior always felt cheap. I'm glad they fixed that
I just wish they didn’t take out the buttons.
@@faheemabbas3965 Something customers didn't asked for lol
Physical buttons for all commonly used functions please!
A really GOOD review!
all the people complaining about a 4cyl must be stuck in 1989 when a 4cyl got you like 80hp. People don't buy a crossover for speed 😂 that's not what they're for. Majority of people also don't keep their cars 10+yrs so who cares if it gives out at 200k
Sofyan definitely does not skip legs days
I saw that can of Deja Blue (water) in someone's backpack. I have only seen that brand on Southwest Airlines (of which I see a lot of). Great video. I think I am sold.
Good option, wish it had a hybrid and/or phev option.
Love the look and styling. But, lack of physical climate buttons for ac/heated seats and steering wheel moved this into the reject pile for me. Who wants to fiddle with a touchscreen while you’re driving.
And no physical button for the auto start/stop. That's the cherry on the 'reject pile' for me.
Hey, great review like always, would you know why they lowered the ground clearance?
Bought one today. Black with black wheel package. This replaces or 2020. The 24 is incredible.
This suv is beautiful
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video but I'm looking forward to the VW ID7 and the chevy blazer ev 1LT
Cars weighing 4500 lbs with a 4 cylinder is just insanity
Why, it has roughly the same torque, likely more under the curve at most rpm's than the VR6? What's insane is the fact that it's considered "midsized".
With the price and size of these vehicles they seriously need to start bringing Audi engines down like the 3.0T in it even a detuned one. It needs it
I have both Q8 and Q7 2.0T. The 2.0T has plenty of power to haul 6 people and some luggage.
@@MrVuTran how many miles does it have?
It can tow 5000 pounds.
I like the exterior lighting and the interior. Me personally don't care for a turbocharged vehicle. Love love the hydraulic hood struts!
Very Nice Bro! Get Good People!
I’d normally not get a black interior but that blue portion in the middle of the seats makes it unique
The current model has blue seats but it's not nearly as nice and rare I believe
Nice refresh
I am very picky when it comes to cars and cross-shopped a lot of options including Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer, KIA and even Audi Q7 before settling for a 2020 Cross Sport. Besides a few issues, I am.a very happy customer for the past 4+ years. The comfort, space, fuel-efficiency, and above-average sound system make this a great package compared to other options I mentioned.
About the sportiness of the vehicle, I didn't pay it for drag races but can easily saying the turning radius is great. I am now waiting for the factory warranty to end before tuning the engine to 300+hp.
I'm so glad lightbars are back in
What's a point of a 2.0 litre engine in car like this, you would get the same mpg (if not better) with a 6- cilinder, with much more power. Look at new Mazdas' SUVs, they seem to get it
More breakdowns in 4 turbos=more revenue for manufacturers after the warranty
Toyota just ditched their reliable smooth V6 with a 4 Turbo that sounds like a lawn mower returning exact same mpg lol
@@kizo172thats what i dont get !! What is the reason to get unreliable 4 cylinder with a turbo if mpg is not better
Thank you
Do they still offer puddle lights as an option?
They need to bring back the Touareg
Fun fact. King Fisher blue was a color available on the previous generation Bentley Bentayga
Very impress I want one
Imagine this vehicle with around 350hp to 375hp as an upgrade
They won’t since they have Audi q8 for that.
You can get 300+ with an APR stage 1 tune. I am sure there will be a stage 2 tune towards the north of 350+ hp. VW won't officially do it as they won't step into Audi's territories. 😊
I like that interior
I always like this SUV
😁 The camera persons hand was funny.
I have had mine for 2 weeks and I love it .. only thing I’m worried about is my electronics .. I got a warranty for a 100k.
how were you able get 100k warranty ?
@@charlescai I negotiated with the finance .. I paid 2500 for 5/125 actually. Covers everything except maintenance like brakes and oil
Is it large enough for guys 6’3”
The Atlas is very nice!
Upstate NY 👍
Is the ambient lighting only on the SEL trim?
Yes I’m thinking
@@xKidMaingbang UGHHH
50k SEL price tag you have many options 👀
it's a pity that you didn't show how the remote start of the car works, whether it will cool the interior, ventilate the seats on hot days, and automatically heat the steering wheel, seat, rear window mirrors and defrost the front window in winter.
Wish these had the captain's chairs option
I'd take this over the other with 4-motion R line with 2 rows over 3 rows. I like rear space plus you didn't point out the subwoofer with the spar tire seen... ISMH ;-( On the Volume slider it lights up to see it????
No one ever sits in the middle to explain how the seat sits. How comfortable is it in a larger SUV?
Some controls don’t illuminate at night - did I hear that correctly? That’s ridiculous and a non starter for me. 🙄🤷♂️
They need to bring back the diesel version to America
Will never happen.
After dieselgate, VW signed an agreement that included that they’ll never sell diesels again in America.
Waoooo ese azul está hermoso 🤩
I feel like at $52k, a turbo 6 should be at least an option if not standard. Nearly all its competitors have a 6-cylinder turbo engine option (Ford, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai, to name a few)
They can’t because of Audi
@@thenotoriousjoey9956 they own Audi, not the other way around
@@S3XYdriver no I know that they can’t do it because they own Audi duhh they can’t mess up their sales on Audi in the US
@@thenotoriousjoey9956 Agreed, I feel they hold back or just do "good enough" when it comes to Volkswagen to avoid stepping on Audi's toes.
Im assuming this has the audi 45 EA888 engine. If it is its tunable to unlock more power
Is a very good choice give it a 9.9 review
Honda Passport over this any day. Simpler, non-capacitive touch infotainment, great V6 and superior AWD system and it has comparable size and space
imo, poor styling
I just don't like Honda's period - so uninspired/weird designs. Do agree on the V6 - but that looks like it's going bye-bye in the next version.
@@AtlasCroc Wrong. Honda just released their new Pilot, and it has a new version of their J35 3.5 V6, DOHC instead of SOHC and without VTec. The Honda designed 10 speed automatic also replaces the 9 speed ZF unit in the older model. The Passport is simply a shortened Pilot, so the next generation will have the same V6 and transmission. As will the next Ridgeline.
@@AtlasCrocthat’s not accurate. They’ll def be keeping the V6.
My only issue with the current generation is the exterior. Nothing special from the rear. The inside is okay, but nothing special. The new Pilot though gives me hope for the next Passport.
I don’t like the styling on the Honda
Love the colour - I had a 1990s Audi A4 in Kingfisher blue. The included hitch with 500lb tongue weight rating for 4 bike rack is solid. But the lack of simple backlit climate controls and volume controls on the infotainment system is a near deal breaker for me... VW used to lead here then Kia took over clearest ergonomics.
The current taureg looks perfect for me ....pitty it's not offered here
Like it needs, the 3.0 liter turbo from its audi cousin. Maybe an already trim with a lift, wild peak all terrain tires and skid plates.
That 3.0 Audi T would be nice asf in this
that would make this car 60k lol. yes it would have been perfect for sure.
The 3.0 is great in reliability but felt sluggish with the size of Q7. I cross-shoped it before getting an Atlas CS back in 2020.
CAr seat and your family and friends is a few minutes to talk to 😮❤
i love this car man
I like having a big usbc charging port
So eloquently delivered...wonderful information...then you dropped the "expecially” bomb. Pretty sure they took the x out of that word in 1973 or 74. Anyway, I'm off to drink an expresso.
Needs the v6 back
Expensive for what it is as well. Lack of physical buttons is irritating, and 0-60 should really be about a second faster for $50k+
Agreed it is an improvement but still just competitive; nothing really stands out.
Keep in mind coming later this year is the new Mazda CX70 with turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder with mild hybrid system, and an all new Hyundai SantaFe with a design and tech light years ahead of this VW!
And in a year, a new Honda Passport with 3.5l V6!
Hurry Mazda hurry.
I can't wait for the CX 70. I'll be trading in my 2022 CX-5
@@lisaw7633 Let's be honest only the Mazda and Honda pose a threat, Hyundai is crap.
What CX70 should have been (making it shorter, compared to the cx90).
Uhh, have you heard of the first Volkswagen SUV, the Toureg?
A Civic can cost 35k now. For a regular one. So.. 50k seems good pricing. They are also taking 5k off again.
I have a 2021 R line Cross Sport and I have to say I like the exterior better on mine. The front of this new model does tend to look like an Expedition. I prefer the side by side style headlights on my 2021, along with the crome horizontal cross rails on my grill. The lighted front bar and logo is kinda cool though. The interior, however, looks much improved, except for the controls on the infotainment system. I much rather have actual dials for the heat and A/C. and radio. All this touch screen nonsense is just an accident waiting to happen. Dials are more intuitive. And then, NOT to have them back lit at night? A silly oversight. And don't get me started with all the piano gloss black trim!
The atlas itself it’s not a cheap car, it should have a small boosted 6cyl honestly at least 320hp and 280 torque, this new 2.0T should be in the Tiguan 270hp instead of 184hp, they should also get rid of the 8 speed tbh, the 7 speed DSG is a much better transmission so idk why they refuse to use it, while the European Tiguan has the GTI engine with a DSG for example
I own a 2018 and I find it was priced much more competitively back then. Every refresh since has seen a price increase for what is still a family, plastic heavy vehicle. This vehicle offers great space and a great highway ride, but I’m not sure I would buy one nowadays. The interior is significantly nicer in that top trim, but ultimately this is still largely the same vehicle introduced in 2018.
How’s the reliability been? 4 cylinder or 6?
@@atmartens I have the VR6. It has been very dependable. I had to do a head gasket repair under warranty, but I believe it was a manufacturing defect. Absolutely nothing else to report.
Kia, Honda, Toyota for example are plastic light vehicles
Does the middle row fall totally flat? People look at these things when they have dogs.
I own an A4 and i have to say, it seems like the quality of VW group have gone down while the peices have gone up for no real reason. Plus the electronics, you will definitely have problems with it.
🙋🏽♂️ VW… please bring back switches, dials and knobs! 🤨
Reliability?
lease and return
No Fog Lights weak Turbo charger 4 Cly No V6?
VW use to not be so cheap I miss the Touareg.
But low sales reflect that
Needs a V12
This 4 cyl turbo is faster than the v6 ppl should realize that. Also slap it in sport mode and youll get a more sporty drive
Did you say 36000$? In Europe price would be at least triple😮 Touareg is around 100000€
Touareg is an Audi Q7 with VW badge and sits a class higher than Atlas. There is a reason why the Atlas is competitive in price.
Is the infotainment in this as bad as the iD.4?
This review felt rushed. Idk if you even stopped to take a breath upfront 😂 😂 we can tell you are not a fan rushing through everything
It was Nice Having a Naturally aspirated V-6 as a optional Engine. Not crazy about Turbo Vehicles tend to be less Reliable. Now they have taken it away unfortunately. Besides the new interior, Also not Crazy about the front end styling, Reminds me of a ford F-250 and the rear lights with that light bar look like a Kia. Basically the 2023 model looked alot better to my taste.
This needs the Audi 3.0T v6. Then it would be worth the price
😂 the price will gp up by $15k!
@@aliqureshi3649 it should stay the same. $56,000 for a 2.0 VW is insane.
The haptic steering wheel is not “finicky” you just weren’t good at using it. I wish you reviewers would stop crying about that wheel, it is really good and far nicer.
I got 4 cylinder, vehicle is to heavy. Telluride seems like better choice!
Wow...that dude talks super fast.
Anybody actually have this? Reliability?
Beautiful car. Unfortunately its reliability factor is ZERO. Go with Mazda CX-9 or Kia Telluride
You have no idea about cars, do your regular maintenance and check ups I own a 2021 GLI I was told by friends blah blah they are unreliable just 40,000 is gonna give you issues I have 84,500 miles no issues or problems moving forward, I know people who owns Mazda SUV they complain about some issues
It’s like it doesn’t even exist because of reliability…
@@joshuapounds7646 really? you call 84,500 miles with no issues reliable? that can be said about most cars. wait till the car gets pass 100k. Volkswagens are very nice cars, but if you look at the used car market, their, value drops faster than any mid-size SUV.
Not zero… Atlas is ranked average or above average by most reliability surveys.
@@wazgoodjj why would you keep any car past 100.000 miles??
Just get another one 😅
nice but 50+ for VW is a ripoff. Crazy times......
I’ve always really liked this car (especially the cross sport version). With that said, I don’t like the new grill. It looks too basic.
I was driving 2019 Tiguan with 2L engine and the car was sluggish af. Atlas Cross Sport is way heavier and they still put 2L turbo engine. Removing V6 engine was a huge mistake imho
The tiguans 2.0 is not the same as the atlas 2.0. The 2018-2023 atlas 2.0 is the 3rd Gen EA888 straight out of the 2015-2021 GTI and 2019-current GLI. The 2024 Atlas is the Gen 4 EA888 2.0 straight out the 2022-current GTI.
The Tiguan is it’s own version of the EA888 Gen 3, which is the 3B
my 2.0 turbo mini cooper get double the gas mileage !!!!
*reliability not included
I think it sounds nice though, I want to hear the turbo.
2.0 Turbo, what a joke😂 German engineering
The fake exhaust outlets in the bumpers kill it for me. Like this “quad outlet” version. It’s worse than fake vents on hoods and fenders.
I drove a 2023 Cross and it looks fast but it’s pretty sluggish lmao
Get a plug in chip for it. I did that with my Toureg and it made a difference...
You would be a total FOOL buying this car!!
Beautiful German machine but weak engine 😢
As a european: Wth is this? 👀
It needs more power. That's my only issue with it.
Why buy this when you can buy a Honda Cr-V hybrid for the same price
for the space if one needs it
