I guess we can throw in a little theory of radiation of light in there, I went with the teal, the lighter colour because in a room sunlight reflects and bounces off lighter objects and absorbs into darker objects. So a light rug in a colour will bounce that colour in reflected light on white walls brightening a room but a dark navy rug will absorb light creating a subtly darker room.
the darker rug for sure, then you can add even more accents of different colours with throw pillows, blankets, etc. Otherwise it might be too much with a bright rug, bright sofa and you'd need to keep your throw pillows and other decor very neutral so it's not overwhelming
The teal carpet is gonna look sickkkk. The couch + teal carpet + teal accents are just beautiful together. The navy carpet is gonna look similar to the one you have now and it won’t give the space as much life as the teal one.
I think it's interesting to see how much americans insist on wearing a mask. In France, once quarantine was over, everybody would wear a mask even in the streets, not only in closed spaces.... There is nothing difficult about wearing a mask, at the contrary, you don't have to smile or talk to people with it hahaha

The teal one is gorgeous, but, if you want the couch to be the star of the room, go with the navy. Like you said, it is going to make the couch brighter and bring a little bit of balance to the room. The teal one will make the whole room seem a little too bright. Plus, the navy goes with that gorgeous new painting!

The navy provides a solid foundation for a bold colour and it has chartreuse accents that go with the couch. aspiring interior designer here-i can see by the photo that the navy has spots of yellow which might help to pop the mustard yellow couch. the teal has orange..? maybe brown spots. on camera the living room looks a little dark especially with the grey rug, and the navy might do the same (darken the room). also keep in mind the fact that you do have a puppy, and if she makes a mess it may be harder to clean it off of the teal rug if you don’t have the right equipment. can’t decide which one i would personally pick...good luck! edit- the teal rug looks to have more of a gold accent color rather than orange.

I love BOTH rugs! I will say if you choose the Teal, you might go into an overload Color Shock since you’re so used to neutral stuff. However, if you do wanna go full force into color, I’d say choose teal. Honestly it’s beyond terrifying. Almost all of my friends act like this pandemic isn’t happening (I haven’t seen them before of this). I constantly see people partying or going to bars and they just don’t care. I’ve talked to a lot of people who believe this is a conspiracy despite the fact that I’ve told them I know numerous people who are extremely sick. People refuse to wear masks. In my town they’re protesting the new mask rule even though Arizona hospitals are almost at full capacity. It’s terrible:
Oh also I’m being required to go back to my campus to take my grad classes and teach. Despite the fact that our campus is in the middle of a hot spot and has 30,000 students from all different states and areas. Terrifying.
