This home makes me happy. She’s one of the first people to say that they love cooking but has the smallest (actual) size kitchen. Just simply the fact that her house is just like a home where a family lives, not a huge show piece. Huge respect. ❤️

I love how she didn't care much about arranging stuff to make it look "presentable" in the luxurious way. Like the books on her shelf or her kindof messy lawn, she just presented her authentic bare self and that just beautiful.

Her house by far is my favourite from all those celebrities. It’s cozy, warm, great style and real. Unlike those celebrities who just live in a big-museum like ‘home’ that feels cold and unwelcoming and have all kinds of function rooms they rarely use. the dishes they filled her kitchen cupboards with.... that whole spiel was a put on, mocking their staging - and that head planter she watered was not something she would put on her counter - she was taking digs saying "now that I look at it, it's dying" and she watered it .... she takes elaborate digs a ton but she is so smoothly tongue-in-cheek about it that it sometimes seems sincere instead of snarky (it's all sarcastic snark, which I think is hilarious)
I don't know why but i love her and her vibes so much. She's just so natural, chill, unfiltered, sarcastic not in a rude way and really funny. I like also how Dakota sets boundaries about her privacy. I find the thing about limes hilarious as well 😂 Her house too is so pretty, realistic and natural like it feels like if anyone visits her house any time, it would look exactly like that.

She just seems so real and sweet. Her mother is the same way. I really like her house! It feels warm, cozy, and attainable even though I am sure that the furnishings are expensive! It fits her personality (from what I can tell) perfectly. I love the stories behind each piece. She seems to have inherited her sweetness from Melanie, and her cool vibe from Don.

Check out the film Roar. Tippi Hedren and her family lived with various big cats throughout filming and were frequently attacked by them but she founded the Shambala Preserve to keep them safe.
Oh yeah, Melanie Griffith and Tippi Hedren are badass! Tippi (her grandmother) and Noel Marshall were avid wildlife conservationists. They made a super ambitious movie called Roar in 1981 to promote animal rights, especially for big cats. To date, it literally is the most dangerous, longest production and most expensive movie ever made. The movie was shot mostly in farmlands outside Los Angeles and had 144 big semi-wild cats (lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs & mountain lions) along with some elephants. Almost all of them were rescues but the starting group were raised by Tippi & Noel. They also were married and their actual entire family star in the movie (Melanie Griffith is their daughter).
Once the movie concluded, Tippi & Noel split up. But, Tippi set up a reserve to take care of the animals, called The Shambala Game Reserve just outside LA. Roar is really one of my all-time favorites. Tippi still personally takes care of all the cats in the reserve.

Yeah me too. I totally agree with her on that. For me, bedroom is such an intimate place. It's the place you slept in and rest. It is the room where u'r at your most vulnerable state, sleeping. So I 100% support she doesnt show her bedroom.

But watching this, I kept thinking, "This is exactly how my place would look if I had money." Just the right mix of cozy and clean and earthy and nostalgic. A really special spot.

No, she actually did. A Nashville and LA based firm called Pierce & Ward who specializes in this design aesthetic. They talk about it in the AD article. Though to Dakota's credit, Pierce & Ward stated she had a very clear vision and they went straight from mood boarding to design and sourcing.
I love it. That's my type of style...open, green everywhere...back to nature like. I'd even add some wind chimes. 🌞

I love that she didn't bother to clean the pool, didn't freak out and have someone come pressure wash everything or spray the grass green to make it look more vibrant. She was just like, "Here's my hot tub full of sand my pool with a big branch in it. Ugh, she's so awesome.
Not only that, but at 5:56, you can clearly see that her tea kettle is not perfect and spotless, it's normal, and it tells you that she uses it every day!
And the fact that she has a tea company makes it even more wholesome!

I love that her house was really very ordinary. It had so much character with items that she loved. It's not too showy. She didn't even have landscaping and barely a lawn, far from perfect. Yet this is one of my favourite AD eps.

Agree. Nothing wrong with all white if that's what someone wants, but everyone does that now. It's a really overdone trend. I find all white/bright homes to be overstimulating. Give me earthy and cozy over that any day.

Personal taste: Did NOT like that kitchen at all. It was the colour. yuck! But each to our own. As long as she likes it, that's all that matters.
Adding greenery does not mean sustainable development, there are construction and operational methods like LEED are true indicators of such things. Neither is this house especially eco-friendly with the variety of imported species being planted.
What it is, is a comfortable and beautiful house.

Her grandma is Tippin Hedren. She was a huge actress in her time and now she runs a big cat rescue a few hours outside of LA called Shambala. That’s where Tippi lives now.
