The cool thing about Brady is how he's continued to work on his throw through the years. The man is always trying to better his play year in and year out. A true pro.
For me Brady has the best throwing motion of the elite QBs. No frills, simple, with no extraneous movement unlike, for instance, Brees's throwing arm prior to loading. Brady's motion looks so effortless in comparison and should be studied by all aspiring QBs
his throwing technique is just a part of it. It's how he reads the defense and knows where his open guys should be. Brain power is just as important as throwing technique, and, he has them both.
QBs lean to their left because they lock out the left leg, usually because they are taught to point their toe at the target and step causing their hips to never get through on the throw. Also, you should never supinate, only pronate as the ball comes off your pointer finger, which Brady does a great job of always. He has a small curve on his left side because he was taught by Tom Martinez and Coach Martinez taught a small crunch on the left side in order to keep the ball higher on the release and "inside the elbow"...thus eliminating the chances that he would supinate on the release causing the ball to tail off or fall to the right in a right handed QB.
Not sure why so many people in the comments are upset of this 'critique' of Tom Brady's throwing motion. People learn how to better themselves as QB's at any level by examining the BEST and attempting to mimic it. The 'why' of how the GOAT throws,.. is useful information and there isn't that much of it out there.
Not sure I completely understand but during the throw the weight should be shifting from back leg to the front leg to maximize power.. feet should never leave the ground though or ‘stay planted’
qb coach here, your video are Very useful, thank You for your work. This Great athlethes obviously are super talented guys, And get away with some minor issue, or ad habits, ok Tom here has Little going wrong. But others have some kind of flaws here And there. Your vide show were as a qb You have To aim To The things in The right way. Great stuff
First of all I'm a big Brady fan, but looking at how his mechanics have improved over the years, to me he possibly has less natural ability than a lot of the elite QBs. You'd never guess it looking at his current mechanics though. Silky smooth and effortless, and in my view the best, but go back 15-20 years and things were nowhere near as good. This isn't a criticism of Brady, quite the opposite. It's a testament to how how hard the guy has worked to become as good as he is.
Yes and still continues to work ridiculously hard on his mechanics even at the level he is at. That is why he is the most valuable played in the NFL he raises the game of every person in the organization by being apart of it. One of the best leaders of this generation.
I think Bryce Young of Alabama and now Carolina Panthers football has a tendency to keep the ball very low and then bring it up and throw almost one-handed. I think it usually works for him because he has such a pin-point, lock-on, laser throw that he can get out quick. But he really should be working with Brady to get his mechanics better.
Hey guys. We just posted a video on Tom Brady's Deep Ball Throwing Mechanics. Would love to get your thoughts about it --- th-cam.com/video/4564KQBry-M/w-d-xo.html
Something I noticed he could work on is his front foot angle. If you notice the back view, it is facing off to the right a little, but he is throwing straight. Lining that up better will help with the rotation of the ball, as you pointed out. -fieldgeneralu
I know it’s cool to see w/o pads but I actually think his technique is better in games. He just seems to be fooling around here. Toms a technical guy/perfectionist type so he’s either all in or nothing. His game throws (especially when he has to zip it 61mph) he doesn’t have a windup. He keeps the left bicep incredibly close to the left ear (ball goes directly up and out instead of back and in) and does create more side tilt as a result. You should do a bio-mechanical breakdown of that 35 yard square in against the Texans to Brandon Cooks this year. His velocity and accuracy was ridiculous and would love to see how he did it mechanically. I’d really, really like to see Garoppolo as well. His talent for throwing the ball is amazing and it pisses me off when they compare him to Cassel, Hoyer, and Mallet for Christ’s sakes. People just have no clue and obviously never noticed how he throws the ball. Even my mom (she’s 74 and a half interested fan) said “he’s amazing. The ball is just zipping out of his hand so quickly, I cannot even see it!” I said to her “Good eye Mom!” Maybe breakdown that unbelievable pass he threw again the Dolphins last year to Bennett for that 20-30 yard TD pass? His release on that pass was just freakishly absurd!
wow - good breakdown on Brady's technique. He's a sub-atomic perfectionist who works on maintaining and improving his technique more than anyone before him. There's a good video with flutie who describes what it's like to train with Tom. Brady picked up some small improvements from Flutie involving what to do with his right arm, and high release. Just goes to prove that QB's in on-going learning process and as great as Brady was and is - he still is looking to improve. If he keeps this up he might get a chance to play until 50 and keep improving every year.
It's not necessarily critiquing in a negative way or telling him he's not great at what he does. It's more so to give everyone a different perspective or insight on how he throws.
holy shit this was irritating to watch. PLAY IT IN FULLSPEED at least once at the beginning to give the audience context into what you're explaining. you just jump right into slow-mo which provides no real context to apply any of your commentary to. down thumb!
His release is too slow. He winds up like Tim Tebow… yes he’s throwing some great passes but I feel the defense he’s throwing against is not very good if they can’t handle those receivers…
tom brady is an amazing football player but hes not the best thrower. even then, he should still try and better his throw as most greats never really stop working on their mechanics
Being an established laboratory this was a really poor and shallow attempt of analyzing. You need to bring the subject in to your laboratory and do proper measurements with proper tools; not some video flipping a mouse cursor around. Amateur level!
And if you rewind the throw, he's also a great one-handed catcher.
Brandon O'Sullivan that's funny 😄😁
Idk Brady didn’t seem like a very good catcher during the superbowl
Josh Castro wow I’m a patriots fan and you have to bring that up
And if you watch the Superbowl throw it was overthrown

Vi N couldn’t agree more!
Not a Pats fan, but Brady’s form is perfection.
Likewise!
it would be nice to see the full throw at least once
Samuel Coburn exactly
same bro
Yeah he should have shown the throw full speed from both angles tbh.
I'm not the only one who thinks this sounds exactly like Tom Brady right?
Alejandro Galeno thank you for the compliment
lol I totally thought "holy shit, is this Tom Brady taking us through his own mechanics?"
Holy shit! Same!
Alejandro Galeno LMFAOOO
Alejandro Galeno lol. Pretty sure this is Tom Brady talking about himself.

I completely agree. I really just hone in on the Mechanics side of things.
Thank you!
I mean, this video isn't about that tho.

Brett Holloway i thought that too
Jack Strand ain’t no thinking about it. That’s what dude said.
Tom House has analyzed and helped improve Toms mechanics for years. What are you gonna tell a guy with 6 rings.
Crazy to think that this comment aged out of date. Wild.
Why is Tom Brady talking about himself in third person?

Theory Question:
On the weight with in the stance.
Why not stay planted throughout the throw? Instead of the back leg?
Not sure I completely understand but during the throw the weight should be shifting from back leg to the front leg to maximize power.. feet should never leave the ground though or ‘stay planted’

Yes. There is no perfect way to throw a Football. Just have to optimize each individual to make sure they are getting the most out of their body.
The best to do it 💯 🔥 🐐
