  • Dr. Jordan Rogers continues preaching through The Book of Genesis in this sermon from Genesis 37:1-36 entitled, “How God is Working."
I can’t tell you all the workings of God in every moment, but I know God is working through it all. God is sovereignly accomplishing His will even through our failings and troubles; and He is even accomplishing His will despite our ignorance of the details.
In Genesis 37, we read of the early years of Joseph’s life. He was the favored son of his father, and yet hated by his brothers. Shockingly, Joseph’s brothers planned his murder, and then decided instead to profit off of his sale into slavery. So Joseph was brought to into Egypt.
Through it all God was accomplishing His perfect will, to bring about salvation for many people through Joseph. Looking back at the early years of his life and seeing how God had brought him into a position of authority to save his family, Joseph consoled his brothers with this great truth, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today” (Genesis 50:20).
The following is a sermon from Genesis 37:1-36 and below you will find the video recording and a sermon outline to help you follow along as you watch. I hope this study tool helps you grow in your love for the Lord Jesus and in your obedience to Him.

I have watch this video more than two times. 2 things that I could not ignore: 1) Genesis 37: 10 - 11 … Forgive but Don’t Forget. 2) Jacob lied to his dad (later) Jacob’s kids lie to him (what goes around will come back around … when he is least expecting it.)

Dr. Jordan...I'm so amazed with you. Your a master of the Bible and of several languages. How did you do this so early in life?

You are very kind in your compliment, but truly, any benefit you have received through the preaching of God’s Word has been a gift of His loving grace. I am merely a servant trying to serve the Master faithfully with the talents/gifts He has invested in me for His glory.

    28. Midianites sold Joseph to ishmailites & They ( ishmailites ) took Joseph to Egypt
    36. Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh
If Midianites already Sold him to ishmailites for 20 shekels , and ishmailites took him To Egypt. Then how did Medianites sell him in egypt in verse 36 , it should be ismailites who sell him in egypt as Medianites already sold him to ishmailites
    Please Explain

Zahid, I am grateful to Christ that you have taken the time to watch this sermon from Genesis. I pray that you are blessed.
To answer your question: We see in the Old Testament that the two groups, Midianites and Ishmaelites, were connected and interchangeable in some ways. In Judges 8:22-28 we see that there were Ishmaelites who were dwelling in the land of Midian. These Ishmaelites were recognizable because they had golden earrings (Judges 8:26).
So then, for Joseph to be sold to Midianites and Ishmaelites does not mean he was sold to different groups of people, but that the merchants in Genesis 37 & 39 were actually Ishmaelites from the land of Midian. These Ishmaelites had come south from Gilead, where they had traded for goods, and were on their way to Egypt.
