this predator creature looks MUCH better than the predator creature in "Prey". So yeah... good for the time it was made and apparently for this time as well.
This film had no CGI.... that alone makes it incredibly impressive.

Example: The Lonely Island - I'm On A Boat is a parody song/music video however due to the people making it being SIGNIFICANTLY more talented than 99% of hip/hop rap stars, its significantly better than the material it was intended to parody.
The actor who played the pilot at the end is actually the actor who played the Predator in the movie. His name is Kevin Hall. He had amazing body language acting.
So sad that Kevin passed away from a tainted blood transfusion. He was such a wonderfully sweet man.

Billy's stand on the tree bridge. Billy believed that they were all going to die he chose not to die running and afraid but to meet it like a warrior , He sliced himself to deny the predator drawing first blood on him.

The girl wasn't there to "look sexy". In fact, I don't think anybody ever thought of her as being sexy in this movie. She was there to help explain plot points such as, the predator won't hunt you if you aren't armed, which is why Arnold kicked the gun out of her hand. She was also there to find the green blood so that the audience could see it before the other characters did. She was also there to tell the story about when she was a kid and there tales of similar situations, implying the predator had been visiting Earth many times.
She did look sexy to be fair. But yeah you’re right, she helped the plot several times.

The purpose of the woman was to advance the plot. She was the vehicle to get the lore about the Predator coming to hunt on Earth to the audience.
it was intended originally for ahhnold and the woman to fall in love but a romance would have slowed the movie down too much so it was nixed. i saw an interview where ahhnold said what are we supposed to do? the predator is hunting us and were going to slip into the bushes for a little nookie?

SO, if they every did make a sequel, I would have liked to see her and Dutch together. They don't have to explain anything, we would just understand that they got together after the events.

I love that once people know what it looks like in its camo, the director shows shots of the jungle and everyone leans forward a little trying to spot it in the trees.
Possibly Arnold’s best performance. The cast is perfect for an action film. And excellent screenplay. Best line: “If it bleeds, we can kill it” 🎉

They don't make movies like this anymore! Such tension and suspense, one of the best action thriller movies ever made! The Alien/Aliens movies as well... they weren't afraid of not over-explaining things to the audience, or to have prolonged moments of silence/no music to eerily build tension and suspense, and they definitely weren't afraid to NOT show the monster/alien too much which lets the audience's minds run wild in a very personal way for each person. So effective and engaging!

Both the actors that play Blaine and Mac actually did serve in the US military both were Vietnam Vets. During the filming of this movie, they both suffered PTSD symptoms and two were caught on film the first being Mac holding down the trigger of the Mini gun long after it ran out of ammo and the second scene was when Mac cut himself with the razor. Bill Duke actually did slice his face open, and it was not planned for either event to happen.
Truthfully it was a straightforward action movie, elevated by its director who went on to have a legendary career with action films in the 80s and 90s.

Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit, which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused.
Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch, being 7'2".
Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the video movie and would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990.
Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches.
Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed. No hot meals were allowed due to the heatwave in Mexico.
The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP, whom played Billy, as he he was prone to violent outbursts.
Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us."
It was 110° in the shade while it was 42° at night.
It rained for 2 weeks making filming even more difficult.
The scene where Arnold's stuntman falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap.
It was a box office and critical success making $100 million dollars ($369 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget.
It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace.
It's now considered to be one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.

Landham wasn't really the real tough guy on set. Jesse Ventura was. Landham was actually a porn star at one time. BUT Ventura was a pro wrestler but he was also a real life Navy Seal. He and another another soldier who was hired actually trained the cast so their performance looked real. Also Ventura did a interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin and mentioned that while filming Predator he started having flashbacks from Vietnam with his PTSD. His wife said Ventura would sleepwalking at night and acted like he was on guard duty. Ventura is also the one responsible to have the characters actually do the 5 meter spread and to keep the team in proper formation. He told Stone Cold he had to really argue with the director to do this because McTiernan wanted them bunched up because it would look better on film. But Ventura admitted that he got his way with formation but had to be reminded this was a movie and not a documentary reenactment.
@@sirwalterii_2nd Both Ventura and Bill Duke (Mac) served in the military during Vietnam and your right about the PTSD. 2 such scenes were caught on camera with Bill Duke. The big difference is between Ventura and Lanham was Ventura and Duke were able to control their temper's. Lanham from what I have read could not.

The alien is *not* a predator, he is indeed a hunter--a trophy hunter. A predator kills to eat, while this thing kills only for fun and pride (ego). The word "predator" just sounds cooler than "hunter".

So, the Predator, probably the best creature design in the history of film. The actor who played the Predator was a guy named Kevin Peter Hall. He also had a small part as the black chopper pilot at the end. The director wanted him to get some "face time" since he was such a good sport during the filming and heat. Kevin Peter Hall also played Harry in Harry And The Henderson's. A comedy about a family camping trip where they find Bigfoot and bring him home with them. Kevin Peter Hall was in a bad car accident in 1992(?). He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. During surgery he was accidentally given contaminated blood and passed away. RIP Kevin Peter Hall
When Mack first sees the predator he doesn’t yell “sergeant” he yells “contact” which is what you call out in the military when you encounter fire. Just a fact that’s funny, the movie subtitle person got that wrong lol

Welcome to the world of Predator's species named Yautja. Since this classic came out in 1987, backstory of this species has grown out more with other movies. Yautja are warring species from interstellar planet called Yautja Prime. That one from 1987 was sent for his hunt on Earth to hunt for honor and trophies. This predator might be young adult Yautja warrior who is his hunt. There are different types of Yautja (Predators) from youngling to Youngbloods to Adults to Elders to Seniors to Yautja Leader.

Don't think so - I saw it on my 16th bday with friends that had already seen it & they loved it, as did many other people at the time.
Seriously? Everyone loved this film except a few film-snob critics (who were accustomed to writing snarky hit pieces about EVERY action film). The film was made for only $15 million, and grossed over $98 million at the box office, beating all expectations. And in VHS sales, rentals, and cable airings, it did another hundred million easily.

The predator culture is based off the honor of the hunt. Few things, first when Billy cut his chest he did that to insult the predator. Billy knew he was going to die and he knew the predator acted like a hunter that earned its kills. By cutting his chest he became wounded prey. It is considered a dishonor to kill prey that is already been weakened not by your own hands. So he did that as a slap in the face to the predator in a way. Also when the predator was heating up his wrist blades with the laser he was cleaning them. That way they would be pristine for the killing of arnold. Also at the very end the helicopter pilot that flies Arnold out that says "my God". That is actually the actor who is inside the predator suit. Kevin Peter Hall

The reason he did it is because he wanted to show respect to his prey by having clean weaponry. Just how a centurion would clean his sword or a hunter cleans his buck knife

Really? Predators have excellent hearing but they're not blind so they don't really rely on any kind of echolocation. No the yellow is invitation but he was easy to find because of the fire in the middle of the jungle.
One of the most sought after Alan Silverstri film scores back in the day. His score is great, but his score for the sequel is just awesome. The percussions are insane! My favorite Silverstri film score.

Ana (her name in Spanish) or Anna is not only an unjustified female presence, she is an integral part of the guerrillas, and Dillon took her prisoner to interrogate she in the CIA headquarters.
The helicopter pilot is the Predator! He had a speaking line in the chopper, so he could have a film acting credit! There's lots of good Predator movies, aaaand Alien vs Predator!!😮😮😮" Get to the Choppa!". And from his movie before this," c'mon Bennett... Let's Party!"Engineers, from Prometheus, supposedly developed Aliens, Predators, humans, and the technology for Replicants and Terminators. In the beginning Billie was drinking water from the vine. I was taught to never drink from both the green vines and the brown vines in one day. One of the other is ok, just not mixed. You will be very sick if you do.

They needed someone larger than life to compete with Arnold's huge muscles 💪 as he typically dominated the action movies against his enemies in these old 80s movies. They got 7' 3" tall Kevin Peter Hall to play the Predator!! He did an amazing job! 👏

I'm glad they don't reveal too much about the Predator in this movie. Sometimes the less you know about a creepy creature stalking you, the greater the fear and scarier he seems. Which is what you want to portray in a film like this.
Also, sometimes less is more. In a good way. Because you only learn a limited amount the Predator, intrigue for the Predator rises. No wonder it's become such a cult classic today after so many decades. And has developed a great number of a fan following. There is a huge fan base today. -OG

That huge log was what powered Dutch's spike trap, but the Predator missed it while avoiding the spike trap, and stood right under it, so Dutch deliberately triggered the trap to make the log fall, and BOOM! the Predator was squashed. I'm not so sure their species is more intelligent.
Love your reactions. My recommendations: Arnold's first masterpiece "Conan the Barbarian" (1981) and his last masterpiece "Maggie" (2015).
The creature belongs to a species called "Yautja". A nation of hunters. They travel the universe, visiting all sorts of planets and hunting the most dangerous native life forms there. The more successful hunts a yautja can attest to through trophies, the more honor he earns, and honor is synonymous with social status in that race's society.

It's the counterweight for the trap that lands on the predator. It wasn't intended as the trap, but makes a pretty decent trap if the creature happens to stand there. This is all if memory serves me right.
You missed the alien drop-off at the begining. 'Don't even know if you're aware of it.

The Predator doesn't care about the girl because she is not much of a danger or challenge. It wants dangerous, challenging "game" to hunt, and Special Forces soldiers make for ideal trophies.
You just saw the birth of an iconic movie character. You should watch "First Blood" (1982) to see the birth of another.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think it's silly how the Predator heated up its blades. The only reason to do that would be to sterilize them, but why does that matter? I think possibly the filmmakers mistakenly believed that heating up blades would make them sharper, but that's not why some people heat up blades. Heat can also be used to harden blades, but then you have to "quench" them in much cooler water or oil to get the hardening effect. All just heating them does is kill bacteria.
These 3 witches should never be allowed to review any movie ever again...🤦🤣

It is a movie that we can learn something from, for example, the alien has some specific modus operandi and protocols. He refused to attack the girl because she had his blood on her. And in Predator 2, that alien would not attack a pregnant woman; and the aliens congratulate a human hero that killed one of them. So they have brains, and a mindset with reasoning-they’re not completely unbridled or lawless.
We also learn that the Latina was clever to put the green blood on her for protection; and we learn that people that speak Spanish maybe can speak English, too.

You ladies mention that the movie had great displays of physical strength. And maybe it was put there to entice women. I counter and say it was there to appeal to men. Men watch other men, admirer them and wish they could be fast, strong, handsome as they are. The same way women watch other beautiful women and wish they could have their attributes. Men can't be Arnold but they can dream or aspire to get to his stature.

Nice reactions, ladies! Yeah, Predator came out at a time where a lot of sci-fi/action films had kind of a horror vibe to them (the Star Wars films being notable exceptions). Among the biggest parts of Predator's appeal was the suspense of it all and the fact that the real threat wasn't revealed until about the halfway mark of the film.

I think you ladies are missing a vital aspect of the movie's main theme. The movie is about the WARRIOR WAY. What if you are faced with an entity that won't listen to reason or discussion. Like Putin with his invasion of Ukraine. You have to fight. The movie is about how do you fight when you are outmatched by your opponent. You have to be clever, creative and use their strengths as weaknesses. The use of the jungle against the Predator, huge logs, wooden spikes, and mud. This is the appeal of the movie to so many people especially men. I thought i should put this point of view out there to counter your dismissal of the movie's true lesson.
They liked Braveheart, which is way better story about the warrior way. Predator is a good action movie, but anorexic for rewatch value imo.

I love this movie, and I appreciate your honesty. It definitely is not everyone's cup of tea. I will say though, you guys noticed a lot of things most people don't, specifically the part when the Predator was shooting randomly in the trees and how that scene is just a role reversal. And you see the Predator showing fear/confusion for the first time..
My suggestion for you girls is to watch "The Arrival"_ - 2016 with Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams. I think you will all love it.
NO...this film was NOT made for ladies....it's one of the best macho 'action films' of all time, and frankly, these ladies just don't 'get it'.
The Predator is not hard to kill with a gun, but like any creature, you have to hit it to kill it. It's hard to hit because of its invisibility technology, and the fact that it mostly moves in the trees, and these humans kept shooting too low. The alien did get hit in the leg by a bullet shot by Mac, which wounded it, but unfortunately it was only a flesh wound, not serious. Had the bullet hit bone or the knee joint itself, the Predator would have been in serious trouble earlier, and probably would have been killed.
Dillon actually shot it with a single round at point blank when the Predator killed him but it wasn't enough, and the Predator wasn't really scared to be shot by him, so it was fairly difficult. He was shot a few times other than the "hot minute" scene to little effect. I have the movie but I would have to see it again to point out when he was shot.
Ah yes the most macho movie ever made. The actors truly didn't bleed during this masterpiece....
Modern women obviously don't like this movie. it's too macho and too much toxic masculinity.
They had chances to kill the Predator earlier, but just didn't do it. Dutch could have shot it while it was in the net, but he did not do anything except stare like an idiot. Mac and Dillon spotted the Predator in a tree and could have shot and killed it right then, but Mac decided to try to sneak up on it first, and got killed. Then Dillon saw it again, but waited forever to shoot, giving the Predator time to kill him first. 🙄
One of my favourite childhood movies! Along with Aliens and Robocop this was on near constant rewind on betamax (before VHS).

Още един любим мой филм. Има някои нелепи моменти, като това че Арнолд през цялото време държа автомата си на нивото на кръста, а не опрян в рамото, както е правилно ако искаше да уцели нещо. Това е кино и трябва да изглежда добре на екрана. Въпреки че не ви беше по вкуса поне го изтърпяхте и обективно оценихте факта, че е добър филм. Тази реация също я запазвам в Любими. Имаш сладурско куче Вики, харесва ми.
