Hi Laura, to avoid staining my table clothes I place a quality plastic over my table clothes. I purchase it from Joanns fabric store. It comes in different widths. I have them cut to fit my table cloth and it sure saves on my table clothes. The plastic is not very noticeable as it lays over the table cloth. This really works out well.
Enjoyed so much. I am a very active 75 year old and enjoy using all kinds of linens. Antique pillow cases are my absolute favorite. I now replicate them. I am still using table clothes that were made by my grandmother. They wash beautifully. My sister is beside herself that I am using her old linens, but I told her the theory of "saving for good" no longer exists. I enjoy using and wearing bright pretty things. I am definitely going to try and make the table covering with the buttons for my gate leg table in our sun room. Yes, grandmothers table
Hi Laura! Thank you very much for sharing it’s us. Your tablecloths and your love for them are very inspiring! What a great idea to use flannel and/or batting! 😎🌸
Raised creations worked well on my quilt, at the very dropped edge of 7 inches. The subtle weigh bonus made my unpadded tablecloth smoother and non-shifting. Very cute demo-examples!
I absolutely loved this video, you really are one awesome lady. I feel like the time here is with a friend a very talented gifted friend. Love all the tablecloths !
Hi The chili one is also my fav. Last winter I've made tablecloths for my children...I make them some for each season and an every day ones. My problem was to find tablecloth fabric that wasn t boring....so i went to the quilting area in our Fabricland store ...that area is so colourful and a happy area...hahha.....but the fabric is only 44-45" wide. I discovered your video and i find your ideas of tablecloths "à la quilting" are the answer me. So happy i found you.....thank you for sharing Lise from Ontario, Canada
You have inspired me so! I'm washing fabrics now to make my first quilted tablecloth. I'm new to quilting and need practice with my long arm machine. I made the placemats and napkins from another of your tutorials. They came out so nice! Thank you for sharing your ideas and teaching me a way to use my fabrics instead of just collecting them. :)
Love all your tablecloths. I also use mine, but I put thin plastic (which I get at the hardware store in the plastic table cloth section) over the top of my table cloth. That way I can use it with out the worry of anything being spilled on them. The plastic comes in a light, medium or heavy and I get the medium and cut it to the size I want. Also...I use Shout on my stains. It takes the stains right out. My Daughter says that I have shares in Shout! lol!
lol love Shout too...have you tried Dawn dish soap...I just squeeze a bit on the table cloth just before I take it off and most of my spots wash right out. Thanks for the tip about the plastic covers:)
Hi Laura, This video is featured on 24 Blocks today. I usually cringe when I see quilts being used for tablecloths. With some very intentional planning, they are a delight to see. I enjoyed seeing yours. My own Mister would enjoy the Pepper Quilt and I bet it looks great on your your table with black service. The backs, what a surprise. I gave up boring muslin or white backs many years ago. The use of pretty panels gives them greater purpose. Thank you for sharing your table cloths and tips. I really enjoyed this video.
Melanie Varela Thanks Melanie Varela , it is one of my favorite quilts to make, that way I get to look at them more often. So glad you liked the video.
Very fun video. Please do another, as I'm sure your collection has grown. Please add clips, or thumbnails of your dishes... Or even a table set... xoxo from sunny 🌞 Arizona. 73/47f today.
I am just seeing this Video. I was the inherited Daughter who received Her Mothers Table Cloths. Only time my Mother used Table Cloths was at the Holidays. Some Linen Cloths were somewhat the WORST for Sear others weren't. I before seeing this did not have the Heart to just give them away. There were 3 for T-Day and 3 for Christmas. Untill1984 we were having at least 30 Family members at the Meals. SO what I did was use a Fall cloth with Pumpkins and Turkeys etc and the other Solid Color was in ORANGE. I took and put batting in between the Two cloths and bound it to the Same size. This is now in the Hands of my youngest Son and Family and it did have a gravy spill ( I know it was me who spilled the Giblet gravy and how much trouble I got into at the Adult Table at age 9 now am 72). I am glad to see I am not the ONLY person who does things like this. Thanks for giving me idea's to a confident Beginner can use. By the way it is reversible so two in one table cloths and OXI=CLEAN Does wonders on Gravy Blood and Wine. I know I am the KLUTZ Happy New Year. Now will take the other 2 X-Mas cloths One is With Red the Other is with Green. and I will do this cloth for my other Son and Family for Ndxt Year. Been a little slow as I am a SURVIVOR of 6 Heart Attacks and this is what has been keeping me Going . SECOND QUESTION for You. How BIG is your Craft Room. My room is the small Master Bedroom from the 70's. And I do Scrapping, Quilting small sewing projects. Not doable as a Guest room now. Too much Stash so try and only buy when I don't have what I need to make a project.I have saved copies of Patterns for projects. So Now I am scanning to Stick along with my English/German/Irish Scotch Heritage to downsize my Paper Clutter and space on my Computer. Purchased a EPSON 450 Scanner which will save to Computer or USB's and elimamate the clutter. Hope You and Yours had a Great Christmas as well as A Sane New Years. See your Tues/Thurs You-Tubes. Hugs
Just watched this tutorial and was glad to see that you do use some of your tablecloths. Very nice! Just wanted to tell you that I love your hairstyle in this video. Very nice!
Hi Laura, love your tablecloths, the chili one's my favourite. Can't wait to get back from holiday to get going 😉. One question though: do these quilts "just" cover the table top or do they hang down the side like a traditional tablecloth? Thank you for your answer. Uli, CologneGermany.
Hello from Canada and as for the size, if it is a large one I keep it just a few inches long hanger over. So this way no one will catch it will their leg, thanks for asking
I keep my table square table cloth under 44"square or a 36" square. That way I do not have to piece the back and crib or craft size batting works great. thanks for asking
I dont have a shop anywhere near me in any town.....Sewing isnt pop in uk like it used to be...so most shops closed down I would have to go on line..Thank you

Thanks for all your videos and instructions! What is your basic size square tablecloth? It seems that would be easy to quilt on my DSM.

what size do you usually make a tablecloth
That is a hard question to answer, as really each one will depend on the fabric. However, I do like to start with a 45" square.
Now I know what to do with my beautiful vintage linen tablecloth prints from estatesale! Quilting!
Where did you get the 🌶 fabric?
Love the button quilt. Try using it diagonally.
My local shop a Very long time ago!
Where do you get your panels from please.
