    As I work my way through the good mountains and enduro trails in Argyll, I found myself starting to run low on options.
    I had been holding of doing this route as It's more of an xc scenic route that I didn't think would work well for a video. Turns out It's actually better than I remembered and it make for a pretty decent video too👍

    Wasn’t too keen on that chesty angle, was it shot in linear, or narrow? You’re normally on point with these things.
    Having said that, another great watch 👌🏼

      That’s fair enough. It was shot in superview with the Max lens mod, which is the largest field of view possible on the GoPro.

    Oryt andy,ye need to get pierce position sorted ive noticed that his elbows are pointing down instead of out ,that means he can't push through obstacles with his arms ,thats prop why he stalls on alot of stuff,and why his arms are burning out,try roll his bars forward abit and reset brake positions.
    If you look at your footage you will see his elbows are always pointing down

      I agreed to a certain extent. Piers did ride fairly tense and in line with the bike. He has naturally loosened up over the last few rides.
      I try not to preach or be too judgemental, but maybe I can help him out a bit.
      The rides we’ve been doing though, really are quite tough and steep, making stalls almost inevitable.

    I love the sound of Hopes. I actually find that a Hope (v4) is actually quieter with an ICE Tech Shimano rotor. That's what I have on my Shuttle as the stupid thing has center-lock on it
    I also understand, that when you shoot for TH-cam, you don't want all the squeaking of the Hopes. Anyway .... you can try Hopes with ICE Tech, it is actually crazy breaking power, I even feel I have more power on ICE Tech than on the Hope disks (might be age of the brakes or brake pads or even disk wear though) .... just my 2c ...
    Nice places you get to write over there :) cheers

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was tempted to try the V4’s with Hope’s own vented and finned discs but bailed out buddy in case it didn’t work.
      I did try the E4’s with the ICE tech discs (along with a few others) but the same noise stayed 😢
      If it wasn’t for making videos, I’d happily keep running the Hopes.

    • @denesk2794
      @denesk2794 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@McTrailRider Yeah ... completely understand .. I actually do love the sound. It is kind of like having a bell on your bike, but without intentionally telling people to get out of your way :) ....
      The sound I truly hated was Magura Mt5. They have a dual brake pad and do some weird chirping vibrating unhealthy sound like it wants to just fall apart. But then the levers blew up (literally squirting liquid) after a long descend :) so no more chirping.
      BTW I don't have the vented ones, but I am tempted to get those for my next bike (whatever that might be as NOTHING is available with COVID)..... here in 35-40C and all the jungle mountains, you can overheat anything just descending on a fire road. Except Saint/XT and Hope v4. Everything else just blew up on me :)

    • @NickFoxQuixand
      @NickFoxQuixand 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have hope tech 3 x2 with ice rotors, best setup I've ever used. I have the xt's on my xc bike, I couldn't stand the erratic modulation. None of that with the hopes.

    • @denesk2794
      @denesk2794 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NickFoxQuixand Yeah ... that bite point wandering is not a good/safe feeling.
      That said, the Saints don't do that. Saint lever with Saint caliper is a stable experience. It is much more ON/OFF than anything else, so not so great on loose/slippery stuff, especially not on the front....
      But ... if my Shuttle wasn't center-lock I would put the Hope rotors on that too. I have that on my old Nomad and I love the look, the feel and the sound of it. ESPECIALLY when it is wet :) and screaming ...

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ride a large at 6’1, which is most likely too small for me but I like a smaller bike for the steep technical stuff.
      I’m obviously bias towards the Highlander. I’ve been running the 150mm link for over 6 months now and I don’t feel any need for any more travel for what I do.
      I can’t comment on any of the Forbidden bikes as I haven’t ridden them, but I believe Deviate have done a better and possibly more reliable job with the idler cog.
      I also prefer they way that Deviate incorporated the lower Pivot around the bottom bracket, which keeps the weight lower and allows for a bigger distance between top and bottom links, making the rear triangle stronger in theory.

      I’d say about 90% of those cars did not start their journey in Argyll 😤
      I’m sure you’d be ok to go into the Pentland hills?

      @@McTrailRider yes Pentland is our only getaway but it falls short compare to the glory of the Scottish backcountry. Still, it's better than nothing, I could be living in London... the dread...

    Great watching you out on the moors, very similar country to the pennines where I am(though we are on top when you are still in "the glens")and I'm busting to get back out on the trails myself now... great vlog thanks 👍

    Looks great! What made you switch from the Hope brakes out of curiosity?

      Just trying to get the quietest setup possible. The Hope’s have that subtle but constant high pitched squeal.

      Mine squeak slightly and I think it’s the organic pad compound that hope have made by galfer for its brakes.
