I haven't read a camera manual since the Nikon D1, but I can tell the Z8 is a different game, and this series of videos is outstanding. Thank you!

This man makes me feel like I am in the classroom with a professor I like a lot because teaches in a very simple, concise, yet comprehensive way. That includes subjects that are complex. Thank you Sir. I subscribed a couple of days ago. 🙏

I've tried to find a video that could help me step from a Nikon Z7 to a Z8, and my Z7 was the original Z7. I've looked at a number of TH-cam videos and articles about preparing for the Z8 but this is by far the best way to prepare for a comfortable education in moving to the Z8. Thanks John ! I'm looking forward to all the TH-cams to make me feel relaxed.

Rarely had a class where the instructor was as concise like in this series of 3. I later realized that these are the first 3 parts of a full course which wasn't that obvious in the first place. Switching to your homepage I realized that you offer a full course on the Z8 (and many more videos). Thank you very much for this tempting preview on the Z8 that I bought a few weeks ago and I would like to be able to handle in an appropriate manner that beats point and shoot with a mobile phone camera and take images like in your photo gallery that are among the very best I've ever seen ...

Brilliant. Just switching from D500 to Z8 and although some of the concepts are similar in both cameras, I was looking for some guide on the Z8 features. Well, your classes exceed my wildest expectations. What a brilliant way to walk through the Z8 whether one would like to learn about a Nikon for the first time, or to learn some and get other concepts reinforced. The classes are well thought out, organized, and eloquently presented and the graphics, images, examples, live view of hand-on work with the camera are all detailed, easy to view, and helpful. Just wanted to thank you for doing all this work.

Nice tutorial video series, for beginners.
Just what I am looking for to help out a friend who is new to mirrorless cameras, Nikon.
    One suggestion if I may,
You put f/1.4 at the bottom and f/32 at the top. 9:38 when talking about aperture priority.
It may be confusing, visually, to a beginner. Seasoned photographers say “open up” and “stop down”.
As technical as you are , I would think putting f/1.4 at the top is more logical.
    Keep up the good work.

    Hi John,
Bought my Z8 this month. I am a bird photographer therefore I was searching for a video for setting up my camera. I came through your series of videos. They are so amazing and helpful. The only complaint I have that from section 4 to 19 are paid 😔

Unfortunately, if I wasn't paid for the many hours of work I do to put these classes together, I couldn't afford to produce them. We keep the prices as low as we possibly can.

You do NOT have to hole any function button down while you turn the dial. I do not know why people who profess to understand the functions of Nikon digital cameras insist on saying that. Nikon has had that action optional since they began making digital cameras.

This is a really clear and detailed tutorial. Thanks for making this try-out available. I just can't understand why when I dial and change the MODE options it always goes back to either "A" (aperture) or "M"(manual) modes after I release the MODE button. This is to say it's only accepting A and M modes. If I chose "P" for example, when I release the MODE button, it goes back to "A" and if I press MODE button again it shows "P"as long as my finger is pressing down on the button. As soon as I release it, it shows "A" again.
    Very odd. Any suggestions?

    Hi John,
I am seeking clarification on the functionality of the SnapBridge app in relation to focus area selection within the Z8 camera during video recording. I have received some conflicting information on this matter, and a definitive understanding of this function is crucial for my workflow.
The first report says that after setting the camera's autofocus mode to AF-S you can use SnapBridge for the selection of the focus area by tapping on the smartphone or tablet screen. This further implies that the focus itself will adjust itself automatically within the selected area.
The second report contradicts the first one by stating that the Z8's autofocus system and focus point selection operate independently of any actions taken within the SnapBridge app, and that app cannot be used to either initiate autofocus, or alter the selected focus point. According to that report, tapping the screen in the app only provides a reference image, which doesn’t have any real-world impact on the camera's functionality.
I would be immensely grateful if you could help me clarify the accuracy of these claims.
    Thank you, Alan

Hello John. I'm a z7ii shooter and learning about the Z8 to teach a friend. In the first section, you changed the fstop to f4 and kept turning the dail. You mentioned the strange thing about Nikon not noticing that if you keep clicking past f4, you have to click back that many times too. That is super strange! My Nikon z7 and z7ii do not do that. I'm wondering if it is a z8 issue... There are several things about the z8 that the Nikon community is petitioning for such as bringing back multiple in-camera exposures and the ability to connect to Snap Bridge (the phone app that allows you to download and operate the camera) like other Nikon cameras. It seems there may be a couple thing amiss with this one... Thank you for the great video!

    Dear John,
Excellent vlog. Compliments. I do have a question. Is it possible in BKT mode to push the exposure button ones to get (for example) 5 photos? I saw you pressing 5 times to get 5 different photos/exposures. In my D810 this is an ""automatic"" procedure"press one time to get 5 photos. Please go on this way. Very inspiring your vlogs. 👍👍👍

John your videos are great! I have a question that maybe you can help with. I have a new Z8 just using it for the first time today and have a strange issue in the manual and shutter priority modes I always use the manual mode. The problem is the shutter speed is reading as just a number like 320.8, 900.6 and not 1/ 320 1/60 it is just only a number and when changing it it just goes in single digits??? Also you can't touch and adjust that on the back screen. I have other Z cameras and have never seen this. The camera came with the latest firmware installed 1.01. Is there a setting that is wrong if so I can't find it? Thanks, Wayne

    • @JohnGreengoPhotography
      @JohnGreengoPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

Wayne, it sounds like you have High-Frequency Flicker Reduction turned on. I cover this in more detail in section 9 of the full class where it applies to video. But you can also use this feature in stills, check the Photo Shooting Menu for this feature and turn it off to get back to "normal" shutter speeds. As for the touch controls it sounds like they are turned off. In the Setup Menu take a look for "Touch Controls". This feature is discussed in section 7 and 16 of the full class. To get the full version of the Z8 class you can find it here: shop.johngreengo.com/collections/all/products/nikon-z8-complete-camera-guide.

I purchased the new Nikon z8, and I'm getting serious horizontal banding when I shoot in HSS. ALL firmware is Current and Up -to-date. I'm at a loss. I’ve shot changing from rear curtain and front curtain, and STILL, I find banding when I shoot HSS past 1/250 shutter speed. I have contacted several TH-camrs, and they all feel it's the ad200pros. I have tried changing the Photo Flicker Reduction in Z8 settings and the High-Frequency Flicker Reduction. Nothing changes. I hope someone reads this and has some good advice for me.
    My equipment is:
My AD200Pro’s firmware is currently: U-1.5
and my Nikon Z8 has the latest firmware: C:Ver.1.01
R2 PRO II N current firmware is: 1.5
So it has nothing to do with the firmware.
Every time I go into HSS, it causes banding. you can see it in their faces below. I’m desperate to figure this out.
I specialize in Dramatic Sports shoots so I need to stop action. I just don't think the Nikon z8 will work for me. Thank you
