@@JayandSarah The noise, the dangerous drivers and the smells😂Most travellers run away after a few weeks max. But if they stay far from big cities, it's ok. Remember the crazy riksha drivers in Sri Lanka they complained about? So India seems to be a lot more dangerous. Be careful TME and take care.
@@izabela1961 3 months is the plan! We are hoping to have a mixture of cities and smaller village areas. So hopefully it won’t be too overwhelming! Once in a lifetime trip for certain ❤
@@JayandSarah yes! 90 days is our max ❤ but we have a 1 year, multiple entry visa which is great to have as well. It means we can come back 3 more times for 3 months if we wanted!

Welcome to Tamilnadu. The state itself is larger than Srilanka. The birds you saw were Black kites mostly are scavenging in nature . Tamilnadu is great for new comers but be careful with tourist guides or touts in tourist areas like Mahabalipuram, Madurai etc . You will enjoy your time.I belong to the same state and I am about 550km away in South west(and state is 700km long)Have a great time!

As a Tamilian from the north India. Exploring India's south is a colourful experience. People are generally kind and humble. I only wish that India as a whole was cleaner.

Tamil Nadu is so diverse. It got some of the best tourist attractions in all corners. Chennai in north. Kanniyakumari in south. Land od Cholas in Central, Ooty Hillstation in West, Sandy beaches in East

I lived in Sri Lanka for a few years in the early 1980's, but spent many years in India in the 1970's and I can honestly say that Madras (Chennai) is one of the best cities. You ate hoppers in Lanka but you will love the dosas here !

Madras is very different now, practically has lot less in common with the Madras of the 70s, different times, different people, different culture. You can see minuscule pockets of 70s Madras now and then, else it is a completely different city. Finding good dosas, for that matter good South Indian food is a nightmare if not impossible.

Nice to see you having a great time in Chennai ….. I am ardent traveller too and love touring India. I have been travelling and completed 80 % of India for the past 30 years and yet could not finish seeing it. I am Malaysian.
Visiting India is equivalent of seeing the whole world because of it’s diverse cultures, languages ,cuisine and the most mind blowing is it’s architecture in temples and palaces. Try to visit the ancient temples and observe the architecture in it which maybe more 1500 years old .
The flowers you saw was called garland and it meant for the deities in the temple.
Word of warning :
Be careful of touts and conman . Generally Indians are very nice especially the Tamils and the southern Indian people but you should be able to differentiate cheaters and genuine people .
Enjoy India and enjoy it’s cuisine .

If you choose train then you should always book Ac coches for your comfort.good trains in India:- Vande Bharat Express, Tejas Express, Shatabdi Express, Tejas Rajdhani Express,Rajdhani Express,Duronto Express this all are high priority train in Indian railway. If you want deserts you go Rajasthan. If you want Full snow mountain with snow fall you should go Kashmir, ladakh,Shimla-Manali, Darjeeling,Sikkim. IF you want Rain forest with many of waterfalls and also tea gardens you should go Northeast India. If you want to see black water you should go kerala. For party in beaches go Goa. And another one is if you want to see corals Island you then go Lakshadiwip island or Andaman island.

Hi, those garlands you saw are always there. It is used in most occasions in South India. These will be used in marriages where the bride and groom will exchange similar to how rings are exchanged in a church wedding. Garlands will be bought from here for the last rights of people who just died. Visitors will bring these and place over the dead body. These will also be used to receive and welcome people by wearing it on their neck. In the temples these garlands are worn over the idols (deities) during worship. In summary, this is used as a mark of respect in both good and sad events. Hope this helps and I am from Chennai. Welcome to India and enjoy your time. South India is the best and literate part of India. Don't forget to visit hill stations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
You mentioned Express Avenue Mall but Phoenix Mall is larger than that. Try visiting East Coast Road and beaches in that stretch. Also don't miss Pondicherry.

Hi Luke & Naomi, welcome to Chennai. You were asking about the long strands of flowers hanging in the flower shops. Those are garlands used for a wide variety of occasion. They are used in marriages, where the bride and groom exchange garlands. Flowers are also used in a lot of religious ceremonies, but have nothing to do with the Republic Day anyway.
