- New phones like the iPhone 5 are using the new nanoSIM standard. You can actually cut your microSIM or regular SIM into the nanoSIM card. You will need a razor blade, a straight edge, and some 180 grit or higher sand paper. This is a tutorial on how to do it. If you're looking for an adapter that will bring nanoSIM back to microSIM or regular SIM, check out nano-sim-adapter-shop.com/

WOW it worked!!, i had the normal sized sim, so i had to cut away quite a bit of the copper contacts (with a nail clipper and used a nail file to sand) Awesome video!!
Exactly what I wanted. Well done, sir!
This video really helped me to understand what needed to be done so I rate it highly although I don't recommend using a blade. When I tried that technique the SIM kept moving so I used a sturdy sharp pair of scissors instead and simply cut the card as close as possible to the chip. I didn't need to sand it and it fitted fine. My carrier took a minute or two to stabilise once I inserted the SIM but it worked perfectly. Note that I'm from Australia and I was using a standard Optus SIM card. Cheers
That's great news. I've been waiting for femtoSIM for so long!
I am a kind of nervous in doing these experiments !!! Anyway nice work GUYS !
Nice video but if u happen to cut off a millimeter on your sim metal part,would u lost any data or would it spoil the sim?
nice 1 dude!
I'm saving up for the zepto-sim in iPhone10 / iOS10! / Maps10 / new infra-red connector / 1mm thick / 10" screen (same width mind). Its going to be a beast I tell you. Thinking of starting a queue on Monday - bring along your cameras.
what do you recomend for a beginners phone cause im getting mine tomorrow and my mom wants to get me an iphone
thank u very much that was helpful :)
Thanks Mate its very help full video.
do you have any problems using the at&t go phone plan on the iphone 5?
I preordered and got them on the 21st
Did the phone work after you put the card in? Did it load all the info from the card? Thanks...
"razor blade, yep, you know where this is going"
xD
I cut my iPhone 4 sim mate and it works fine in my iPhone 5. It doesn't have to be shaped the same, as long as you cut as close to the metal without cutting any of it and it fits in the sim holder it should work fine.
The Verizon S3 has an LTE sim. If cut down, will that work as a nano for the iPhone 5?
@xoLoveKiKi With ios 5 or higher,the phone does it itself,from 4.3.3 and below,you do have to set the apn on settings,general,network(or red in spanish),network data package(or something like that. Is good to know that the naano sim is just a regular sim but barely the gold chip
Good Job ! ;)
It does works, the two PINS that you cut (golden contacts) are unusable, they do nothing. What really should concern you is the center of the SIM.
The one with the wider screen, I got your point though :-)
If anyone is still interested in doing this, for the iPad mini or whatever, I literally just used scissors and a nail file and it worked for me :)
yep great mate..I also just used my celco ultra sharp scissors...saved me 4 bucks hahaha
YES! I also did it!
that's exactly what i want to ask !!
it works i tried it.
nothing changes as long as you dont cut the yellowish chip.
the rest is just plastic
bought it from the apple online store, well I did that in australia and got 2 iphone 5s unlocked for life :D
If you used a 3G sim card, would 4G LTE still work? If you added it to you plan?
The adaptor was pretty cheap? 7-8 bucks for a minimal piece of plastic?
In Australia you can easily go and visit your local store (telstra, optus, whatever..) and they will give you the smaller sim for free (:
hurp durp. The ruler has a cork back for a reason, butterfingers!
how do you set APN settings !?
@toshineon don't you mean: iPhone 5S?
Agreed.
Nice
Hah yay! i just used a scissor, works great! :D
I dont get american phone companies does verizon give better performance or are they different service providers
I was wondering if u can send mms pics without iMessage because I'm also on a gophone prepaid plan and I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 and now I can send mms unless I'm on iMessage
@souljadan I have s2 and i upgrading to note 2, im not waiting for iphone 6 ;-)
@acreatorious you can just get a micro SIM to normal SIM adapter, my Galaxy S2 came with one :)
Yep.
that's not laziness, it's called sticking to a design that is efficient and so far has worked pretty well for Apple. what's the big deal of making a considerably larger screen if it makes the device less comfortable? i kinda like that iphone 5 is only taller, so you won't have to get used to a new kind of size...
does it even work to call or message
Uhh question. I had a regular sim. Shaved it to a micro sim for a phone. Now I got a new phone with a nano SIM card. Can I shave it even more?
MrToastedChicken Nope.
NanoSim: That's what I call Apple innovation hehe.
so , did it work ???
Once a phone store owner chopped my sim card up and resulted in a disaster. We requested another sim card from the GSM Operator :)
Check the iPhone 5 video
yey!
Actually EU Standards Board have asked for smaller SIMs, so came the mico sim.
genius!
What is genius in that video?
He just cuts piece of plastic, 1yo can do it...
Does it work or not ?
@ryangamv8 I think so also
i made it fit without the sand paper :D
I heard the iPhone 6 will ship with a microscope and a small pair of tweezers so you can use the new femtoSIM.
everybody know the iphone 5 is more longer and thinner and the front camera is on the top, the back is made of metal and have 5 icons rows! even my nephew 6 years old knows that.. only compare the models and you see it.
@Albertkex so?
I love my iPhone 5 but now i have the iPhone 5s.
It looks longer, has a smaller SIM tray and the front facing camera is centred :)
I asked my network if I could simply replace my micro sim with a nano sim and stay on the same contract - they said yes. Simple.
4" is still too small. 4.3" is the way to go, perfectly comfortable in the hand and easy to use one handed, great size for movie viewing/gaming/web browsing but still doesn't add much to the size of the device itself. And I get that the design has worked, but it IS laziness. Look at the Galaxy series of devices. They've all looked good but at the same time are very distinct.
8 bucks! They sell reverse adapters on Amazon in packs for $3-4 with free shipping.
best thing to do... walk in to your carrier store and ask them for a nano sim...
whats 7 or 8 bucks?
And if you want a normal sized sim ? Do you nead a adapter to make it a Microsim and an adapter to make it a normal one ?
Oh, I know the differences, trust me. It doesn't change the fact that the differences are too fucking small to notice at first glance. The iPhone 5 looks exactly the same as all other iPhones from the front. Sure, it's slightly stretched and the FFC is on top in the middle, but that isn't the first thing you see.
Good luck with that paper protecting your desk and 7-8$ for that adapter is not that cheap :)
OMG!!!!!
sandpaper
iPhone 11 - noSIM
you don't have to sand it down IVE DONE IT ! :)
You should be able to go and visit your local phone store (In Australia we have optus, telstra) and they will give you the smaller sim for free (:
Sometimes it's not free. In my country, it's 14 euros for the nano sim...
its better then buying a whole new sim card witch could cost up to 15-20 bucks so yes 7-8 bucks is not that much
Why those a small piece of plastic cost that much
bucks is another word for dollar
iphone 11 -- noSIM (Like Verizon, Sprint)
iphone 4s and iphone 5? they look the same!
The awkward moment you have to actually think about which one's the iPhone 5 because they still haven't evolved the design :/
Could just port the old number to the new SIM...
pause it on 0:00
and guess which is 5 and which is 4S !!
i think you'll have to change it if you wan 4G
I actually dont recommend cutting microSIM to nanoSIM. The reason is that some old microSIMs are not supported with LTE and using that same card you used with your iPhone 4S with just make your 4G enabled iPhone 5 only work with 3G.
Right is the 5, right? ;)
sooo... You need nano sim to use iPhone 5? D:
THE SANDPAPER PART IS NOT NECESSARY! Been there done that :)
Jeff from iDownloadBlog did it first
REMEMBER PEOPLE DONT USE THE ADAPTER UNLESS YOU GLUE SIM ONTO IT OR SOMETHING OTHERWISE WEN YOU'RE TRYING TO TAKE IT OUT WITH THE ADAPTER IT WILL GET STUCK.
The real question here is: DOES IT WORK AFTER CUTTING IT? (Only thing that's missing in the video perhaps?)
sim free
well doe
Look like Verizon and Sprint left T-mobile and ATT far behind lol
It is better to use transparent tape
TURNON THE IPHONE AND W"LL SEE!!
Didn't turn on phone cause this was a fail!
thinner = less thick ...
I wish Apple would stop messing around with things that work and focus on things which dont work, i.e Maps.
@pocketnowvideo
He meant 7 or 8 dollars wasn't a lot of money
Not even remotely retarded. One could easily confuse an iPhone 5 and a 4S at first glance. However, look at a SGS vs an SGS2 vs an SGS3 and you will never be confused as to which one it is. Same goes for most companies' flagship branded devices, e.g. HTC's Desire range (they haven't released a new wave of One series devices so you can't really compare them).
Bad trolls are bad.
