- Prince, age 11, supporting a local teacher's union strike in Minneapolis. Marva Collins, a trailblazing American educator. What do these two legends have in common?
He speaks more about "and all that same stuff" in a sit down with Arsenio.
He went to the Bank with the "Work"
Can't knock Prince on the drive and hustle to secure the bag; but, hang on, a Reality Moment...
Or help others to learn. In 1985, Prince donated $500,000 to Marva Collins' Westside Preparatory School. $270,000 for acquisition of property for her Teacher Training Center.
Prince also brought Ms. Collins over into his Music World
Literature and Composition are two key components in screenwriting. Prince made movies, which, we can talk about in another video. But, Marva Collins had "The Marva Collins Story" made about her. The 1981 Lifetime movie starred Cicely Tyson and Morgan Freeman.
Coming back Full Circle, Prince, at age 11, spoke on local television of his support for teachers and their unionized strike. He then acted on it by donating to education systems around the World. Prince became a huge benefactor of teaching pioneer and Alpha Kappa Alpha member, Marva Collins.
Prince also engaged in many opportunities to be a Teacher through his music, lyrics and beliefs.
In 1987, he released a song titled 'Starfish and Coffee' on his 9th studio album, "Sign O' The Times."
In the lyrics he positions himself, third in line of children in the classroom of Teacher, Miss Kathleen.
The song tells the story of Cynthia Rose, an Autistic child who was more different than the others in his grade school class.
As seen in this episode of the Muppets, Prince was ahead of the class when it came to educating controlling authorities on how to phonically write and pronounce his then symblelized name.
In 2004, Prince and The New Power Generation called this type of teaching, Musicology!
His shows remained electric, intense, and educational.
You may have even learned a new dance or two.
