  • The year 2024 marks the one hundred years anniversary of the Institute for Judaic Studies, inaugurated on December 22nd, 1924, with the proclamation that it is the first seed of a humanities faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Niv Perelsztejn’s Lecture aims to present a historical-philosophical analysis of the establishment of the institute in the contest of German-Jewish academism and the relocation of part of it to Jerusalem after World War I. He aims to present the interrelationship between the ideological background of Zionist nation-building, which indeed played a leading role in imagining and later constructing the institute, and the inter-institutional background of the institute’s academic predecessors in Europe and in Germany in particular.
