I feel like I'm the only person in existence who got hyped over finding out the save block actually exists in the demo. I mean, just look at that star on the top spin. It's majestic.
I have to thank this prototype for finally revealing that basically everyone in the beanbean kingdom is actually just two fighter flies in a trenchcoat.
Bowletta's kinda creepy, yeah. But this version looks like Bowser fused with a rabid bulldog. I definitely know that seeing this design has made Bowletta's final version retroactively more appealing in MY eyes, if nothing else. @@asra-5180
Those 4 missing candles in Joke's End are only missing their graphics, using Firebrand where they are does activate them and allow you to progress. Joke's End is 100% completable without hacks, even though the block minigame and final dash section are VERY unforgiving.
21:07 Worth noting that at the very least, Lemmy's battle sprite is in the game, although the other Koopalings don't seem to be, it's different from the final as well in that he's riding on top of a ball
The others are in the game too, and all have the single placeholder sprite like a lot of unused enemies in this build do. Lemmy's is just the only one that's different from the final.
It's interesting that they cobbled together the final Fawful pre-battle cutscene mech and that "Bowletta"'s defeat (squishing a couple of Fighter Flys) actually triggers a rudimentary version of her death cutscene.
There were many things that I think were cooler than in the end like instead of the Yoshi theater, having to save a Yoshi from starving or Mario and Luigi only starting to freak out after Popple told them so but I am so glad that they changed the Bowletta sprite because the beta one looks like Bowsers corpse was already starting to rot when fawful found it.
11:43 The candles sprites might not be present but the event still works as intended if you know where the candle triggers are and use the Firebrand in the correct position
16:23 What's odd is, the layering on the Mario and Luigi hug sprites is done correctly here, whereas in the final game, Mario just goes over Luigi for some reason. It always weirded me out, and it's made even weirder by the fact they had it right in pre-release versions. If anyone has any insight, by all means, I'd be interested to know.
Since the layering on several other things is broken, they presumably re-layered all the spritepriorities and accidentially screwed this one up. Well, nothing a fanpatch cannot fix now that we know it is supposed to look diffrent.
19:04 I don't know if the chuckle fruit sequence is present in this demo version, but these plants that got replaced by the piranha saplings are actually used in the final version as the plants the specially-colored chuckle fruits grow on
i kinda love the old bowletta sprite. something about it is very unnerving. i also love seeing how the game deteriorates near the end of it, it's super neat
Honestly, I think that the game is near universally better in the finished product with one exception: I think that having to choose between the type of counterattack is much better and should have been implemented as part of a "hard mode" or similar.
i guess in this episode everyone doesnt know what to feel at all in the right times and some of the koopalings learned identity fraud what a holly jolly thanksgiving
Interesting. Bowletta's original design is just a possessed Bowser. His body wasn't altered like in the retail version. I wonder if they though that children would be freaked out by seeing a demonic bowser.

jesus that Bowletta sprite is horrifying, imagine if they used that and how many would creep kids out
