    Hi Everyday Dazz. I'm a huge fan of your channel and the information you've share. I'm a Structural Engineering Student from South Africa, and I'd like to grow professional profile by taking on personal projects and i'd like to focus on residential homes. I have had some experience in designing of structures, but not enough of me to get a full understanding of load take-down if a double story residential home, especially if I'm determining load take-down using an architectural house plan. Could you make a video of such an example in the future if you have any examples and approaches you are able to share? I think this would greatly broaden our understanding, and give us the confidence we would need to take on bigger projects as graduates. Thanks

    you have made a small mistake mate, you put 0.006 x 22 = 1.65Kn/m^2 it should be 0.075 x 22= 1.65Kn/m^2 great video keep up the work can you please do a video on wind load calculation inaccordacne to eurcodes.

    I am confused on one thing, when he did the Area load for the Timber joists, the 2.5 for the number of joists, how is this m/m2 ??? This is important to get the final answer in kN/m2 but I can't seem to see how 1000/400 is m/m2? Thanks,

    Great content, could you do a load run down for a corner column and show how you determine moments about both axis?

      Thanks for the comment, I'll bear that in mind. Determining columns by hand isn't something I'd normally do. In short, you'd do a 2D frame analysis in both directions. Generally, I try and scheme a building so that the stability system is not dependant on column stiffness so either I've using bracing or stability cores. Therefore eliminating the need to design the columns for additional frame moments.

      If you are still having trouble. I suggest this technical guidance from the iStructe. Just google 'iStructe L2-5' and one of the first things that comes up is how to design concrete columns. It should be a free download if you become a student member with the iStructe. iStructe has loads of these technical guidance notes which should help you out in a range of different designs.

    Hey, I'm going into 3rd yr of Structural Engineering, I really want to get the structural engineers pocket book but have seen reviews that there are errors throughout the book, have you had problems with it at all? Just found your channel, cant wait to watch all your other videos, it's great to see a structural engineer on youtube who uses Eurocodes too 😊

      @@EverydayDazz I have both the euro code red book 3rd edition from 2013 and the British standard 2nd edition from 2017.do you know why the 2nd edition came out later than the 3rd edition also which one is better to use? The 2nd edition is a smaller book but there doesn't seem to be much difference in the info within them.

      You do but generally it is small in comparison to the other loads. But yes technically you should factor it in

    Lets say your soil bearing capacity is like 75kpa and you calculated the line load in kn/m. How do you do the calculation to know if it is satisfactory?

    Could you explain why when calculating the Trib area you divide 5.5/2, where is the two coming from?

      The Trib area is the area above the supporting member that is the source of the load on the member. Dazz didn't really explain (or labour) the point that he was calculating load on along a line of foundation that he had called "B". This shown in the video at 7:12. The source of the load on this foundation is all the wall loads plus half the floor loads between A and B, and half the floor loads between B and C (plus the roof loads similarly split). The other halves of the floor loads are carried on foundations A and on C, so the load on B is only half. He also didn't labour the point that to work out what load takedown calculations you need to perform, you first need to understand the building's structure so you know what load paths exists. Sketching the load bearing walls in plan and elevation is likely to help ensure you don't miss anything.

      I recommend structural design of elements by Chanakya Arya. It can be found on amazon. It can be a good introduction to design of the four main materials.

    Have you ever had your calcs rejected by building control or even queried/commented on? In my 5 years of experience of submitting them to approved inspectors i have never heard a beep. Makes me wonder if they even look at them..

      never had a rejection, just comments, mainly on very large projects and these just needed some clarifications.
      I would say they do look at them but not with a fine toothcomb. If they understand the principles of what you are trying to achieve by a well explained calculation pack, then they have no reason really to reject it.
