    ABOUT ME:
In 2018, I decided I wanted to change my life and relocate to Italy. I didn't know anyone there, I didn't speak the language and I had only visited the country twice before. Just eight months after I had made this decision, I packed up my suitcases and moved solo from London to Italy, embarking on my very first Expat experience. On paper it sounds completely bonkers but in reality it was the making of me.
On this channel I serve up a slice of real Italian life through weekly vlogs and videos. I also share tips on how to navigate life as an Expat in Italy, coping strategies, lessons learnt and my unique insight into life as a Brit in Italy.

In Sicilia, the same goes for Taormina... don't go there to sleep, go to Giardini Naxos and then ride a local bus to go Taormina. We have experienced a rip off bed and breakfast in Taormina while we had a wonderful stay in Giardini Naxos (parking for our car included).

I don't want to be argumentative, ma secondo me, the experience is better when you stay right in the center of everything. Per esempio, staying right near Trevi when in Roma, or staying right near Piazza del Duomo when in Milano. Perché, you wake up and open your door and you're immediately hit by the most amazing awesomeness on the planet! You don't don't have to wait or commute in. It's brain-melting OMG HOW IS THIS REAL!? 24/7, right from the start.
So, when on the Amalfi coast, the same rules apply, but you're at a slower pace. So staying right in Positano or Amalfi is preferred and then taking the boat for day trips. The rest of the tourists are coming in, when you're heading out and then you're heading back in, when the other tourists are leaving.
I really appreciate what you do and you're so inspirational. I love your courage and determination!

Thank you! Of course, holidays are as unique an experience as we all are. What is a pro to one person is a con to another and vice versa! I think the most important thing is that tourists are informed about what places are really like and then they can choose a place that is best for their needs.

We learned a lot researching our trip to Italy last fall. Here's another great trip, if you want to see Tuscany and Florence, stay in Pistoia instead, it's somewhat of a mini-Florence with a population of 100K, great people, similar architecture, cheap & tasty food, very good prices on excellent Tuscan leather goods, and most importantly, far less expensive than staying in Florence. The train to Florence is only 14 Euros if you want to see it, which you most deflinitely do, and only takes 25 minutes. I'm sure this is true elsewhere, like you have obviously found on the Amalfi Coast.

Im sorry , I am missing your point ... Except money 💰 ... If I want peaceful and quiet vacation, then I will choose some other part of Italy , like Sardegna for example or some village in Toscana...
But if I want vacation with a lot of happenings, then I will stay there where happening is , right before my door ...
Also , I will choose accommodation based on how much i wanna spend. Meaning, in every single city , including most expensive ones , one can find a place which isnt so expensive and yet you are in your desired destination.
Staying in a place, city where you dont wanna be and then traveling every single day seems a little bit odd 😅

My point is that sometimes in the more ‘touristic’ places, you don’t experience the real heart and soul of a place - you are very much in a bubble. Prices and experiences often reflect this.

Thank you for this enlightening video! Planning our 3rd trip to Italy, and each time I seek a more “genuine” experience to really soak up the culture and lifestyle of Italia and also practice the language. I really appreciate you sharing this valuable info, as I was dreading staying in AMALFI because of the crows, and was looking for a great substitute. Your video delivered! Grazie mille!

I'm planning a trip this summer and I had come to conclusion that my first home base was going to be Salerno. This video just solidified it. It has a train that I can take in from Rome, and then visit Naples and Pompeii. I am sure there's some tour boat I can take from Salerno to visit Positano.

I'm a London girl, whose always wanted to go to Naples because I feel like I might experience a city which reflects an Italy we don't get in places like Rome or Florence. The only thing though, absolutely no one I know wants to go to Naples so I just thought just book it and do it solo. I'm going there August 10th, bit Nervous as I've never done Solo in my life. Haven't felt a pull to the main Almafi coast towns because of the reasons you've described, I want to experience more authentic Italy and I totally get the sentiment of not wanting to bump into a tourist every 2 secs even though I'm a tourist myself, lol i think thats an example of irony??. I've been looking at going to Salnero, I'm thinking to go there eat at a nice resturant do a class of some sort and just somehow interact with local Italians. Is there any resturant that you would recommend in Salerno? Thank you!

Salerno is beautiful! You’ll love it! In August you may find some businesses closed for Ferragosto (Aug 15th) which is the main Summer holiday here, so just bear that in mind. In terms of where to eat my favourite pizzeria in Salerno is Pizzeria Criscemunno and also the restaurant La Botte Pazza but you’ll need to make reservations as it’s only small and is very popular! Naples is an incredible experience just be street savvy and you’ll be fine.

@@MsBritaly thank you so much! Really appreciate your advice. In regards to Naples, street savvy because of pick pockets?? Should I really be aware of anything as I always largely just give every place a fair chance, but in terms of safety I should be a bit more careful?, im too trusting but wonder if this is the one occasion i should exercise caution? Thanks for your wisdom.

It depends what you like. I love Naples. It's dirty, bustling, and a little dodgy in parts, but it's so cool. I don't mind dirty and run-down places because they often have more character. The last time I was there, I noticed a couple of pickpockets, or bag snatchers following me and my girlfriend, but I made sure they knew I had spotted them, and they went away. Just keep an eye out, and you should be ok. I'm staying there one night, with my daughter on the 12th of August, on our way back from two weeks in Amalfi (hence my watching this video).
I sort of expected Amalfi to be a bit like the video description, but I really only want to swim and relax, so hopefully it will be good for that.
@MsBritaly:the most expensive place I found in Amalfi was 59,000€ for 2 weeks. Also some 5-star hotel. How the other half live....
      Enjoy your time in Naples!

@@pancakesandtea. I’m solo travelling to Napoli in September as have done Sorrento and the Amalfi coast too many times . People think I’m mad . I’ve been advised just to stay clear of the piazza Garibaldi train station at night and be a little savvy. I’m from the UK too and my local town is not going to lie …. Rough , so I not worried at all 😂😂. I’m looking forward to the street food , and all the culture part of Napoli.
Salerno is on my list for next year
