The ULTIMATE SICILY ROAD TRIP - Taormina, Ortigia, Agrigento, Erice & MORE (Italy’s Hidden Gems)

- Welcome to Sicily, Italy's southern island nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean. While Italy attracts millions of tourists each year, many tend to focus on its more iconic cities and regions. Sicily is by no means a hidden gem, but it certainly provides a more authentic and less crowded Italian experience. With its alluring mix of ancient ruins, charming coastal towns, and delicious cuisine, this is the Italy we've been looking for. We are so lucky that Tommy’s parents are joining us on this unforgettable roadtrip as we go beyond the usual tourist hotspots and immerse ourselves in the Sicilian culture.
Our first destination was the enchanting town of Taormina. In this picturesque, cliffside town, there was so much to do. We visited Isola Bella, a stunning island just off the coast, indulged in incredible dishes like the iconic Bam Bar granitas and pistachio pasta, and delved into the rich history at the ancient amphitheater.
We then headed to Ortigia, a charming island brimming with character and history. Strolling through the streets, we discovered the vibrant outdoor market, where local vendors displayed an array of fresh produce, artisanal crafts, spices, and FRESH seafood. The market's lively atmosphere was sensory overload, and we couldn't resist sampling some of the incredible seafood. The culinary scene in Ortigia, especially its exceptional seafood, makes it an unmissable highlight on any Sicily road trip.
Agrigento's Valley of the Temples stands as an essential stop on a Sicily journey. This ancient archaeological site has well-preserved Greek ruins that transport visitors back in time. We went at sunset for ideal lighting and a great atmosphere.
Erice, a hilltop town in Sicily, is a must-visit destination. With its cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, the town offers a charming and historic atmosphere. We tried the local cookies, which were so yummy. The town's unique blend of history and culinary delights makes it a memorable stop on any Sicilian itinerary.
We spent a couple nights in Castellammare del Golfo, a charming town on the northwest coast of Sicily.
We ended our road trip spending few days by the sea near Messina, providing a perfect place to reflect on our incredible Sicilian adventure.

I love the shots of the locals. So many beautiful people.
$2.50 for an oyster with wine,.yes! And I prefer watching and listening to Mom & Dad.
My husband & I were in Sicily just before Covid, celebrating our 50th anniversary. BEST trip ever.!!! [All places you went & more] Food, scenery, history....best ever. We spent more time on the West coast.
Hey guys, best video on Sicily I have seen yet. I've lived in Palermo and absolutely love Sicily and most TH-camrs somehow do a terrible job of showing the real Sicily and how amazing the food is but you guys, fantastic! Thank you.
The one thing I love the most about your clip is that everyone looks happy and is smiling! This is amazing.❤❤❤
PS, I am a seafood person too!
Your observations are profound. I was born in the US, my father's family is from a small town in Basilicata. Your video was very helpful in helping me understand why I want to move to Italy and why I struggle living in modern society.
I am happy for your discoveries. Congratulazioni!
Beautiful family trip full of great fantastic Sicilian places…mesmerizing !
Thanks a lot for sharing 👍
I’m a new follower and I’m also Sicilian born and raised in Chicago and that seafood platter just made me happy. Sometimes I don’t want a big meal, give me some wine, cheese, olives and crusty bread and I’m one happy girl. Happy I found you guys.❤
I love how you guys bring your parents along the trips. Love all the places you go to in your video’s 😊
Really well presented and gave an excellent flavour of Sicily that made me smile. And the parents are totally cool!
Aw thank you so much! We all really enjoyed it :)
I like that you give prices. We need this kind of stuff. Great videos guys.

What sticks in your mind for the longest time about Sicily are the colors and flavors, from the sunsets to the unlimited food
You guys are fantastic, I love the fact you’re avoiding the big towns, tourist traps. The content, your editing all excellent. Special mention to Mum and Dad, seem like great people.
You are really a nice family and, as an Italian, I particularly enjoyed the video of your vacation. 😀

I moved to Canada 15 years ago, it's time to move back to Europe.

Im from the video in this one I'm from this island
@sammyandtommy, the excitement I feel while watching your worldly adventures nudges me closer and closer to taking that leap of faith that I feel is sometimes calling me across the globe. The way you incorporate charm, culture and just plain fun into your stories, leaves me wishing I was there with you. I may be more of a country boy at heart, but I would love to find out what I'm like hanging out with the two of you in a place like Sicily. Tommy, I remember a past vlog where you shared how certain cities and cultures were slowly changing how you think about being around people, this intrigues me to wonder if I to would also have a similar feeling.
Congratulations for the videos, you are very nice and the photos of the local people randomly inserted in the editing are beautiful.
Greetings from Florence
P.S. 29:52 it's swordfish not tuna.
You guys are awesome thank you ,.. my wife and I have a trip planned this September, no plans on Sicily, but I’ve been watching nothing but Sicilian videos lately, we may have to take the ferry lol, peace and blessings!

I just stumbled across your video on TH-cam and absolutely loving it! I’ve only been to Italy once and that was to Rome in 2015. I recently married and my spouse’s grandparents were born and raised in Sicily before moving to the US in the 1920’s. We were planning on a two week trip to Italy in the fall of 2024 with plans of visiting Rome, Tuscany and Sicily. After seeing this video, we know that we need to remove our plans to visit Tuscany, and maybe Rome, as apparently there is so much to do and see in Sicily. Thanks so much for a wonderful video. I look forward to see your other videos!
Nice...but you are driving so much in a short time...Sicily is so nice to be just one day in some places :)....
I simply love your videos. Your shots of people and the background music are so moving. Bravo guys!

Best video of beautiful Sicily, thank you so much for taking me along! cheers to your many more adventures!
P.S. I love seabass, went to order a pound at my local grocery store, the fish clerk came and stood beside me and said, I can order it in fresh for you, however, its $65 per pound! :(
In italy the fresh spigola the price is 7 euro kilogram 😂
What an amazing trip guys! Loved the bakery where you got the croissants. Tommy your parents are a great bonus to the videos! Take care 🤗
It's not Croissants, it's "Cornetti" (Plural), or "Cornetto" (Singular). The are alot of variants of it but the base taste, composition, and shape is different from french croissants. I'm Sicilian.
Love, love, LOVE this video! Whoever does your editing deserves an award and you deserve thousands more subscribers. The videography is beautifully enticing, you are all so natural, so normal and telegenic and the choice of unobtrusive music is absolutely perfect. Molto bene.

Loved your video. How long were you in Sicily for? You covered a lot of the island. How many hours a day were you guys driving? We are heading back there in February for 2 weeks and ended up planning only the north and north east of the islands because I thought it would be to much driving. Should we revisited our itinerary?
