I know I'm late to the party today, Geebz, but if you enjoyed that drumming from him, check out their song Ember City off of _Once More Around The Sun._ A fantastic masterpiece of a song from them (as good as _Oblivion_ imo!) with fantastic fills, and chugging relentlessly. Their drummer Brann Dailor did a vid with Meinl Cymbals (th-cam.com/video/f_reZZxP7N4/w-d-xo.html) on that song and another of theirs to showcase his work, and it's just phenomenal. As you probably have heard by now, the musicianship all around with Mastodon is on another level even compared to so many headlining acts in rock and metal. Bassist Troy Sanders is the "frontman" and main singer, holding down more of the deeper vocals. Brent Hinds their Lead guitarist always loves to go crazy with their solos and find ways to add flair to their work, as well as doing backup vocals. Their more rhythm style guitarist Bill Kelliher has shown time and time again to experiment religiously with guitar tones, pedals, and everything else under the sun to create masterful tracks that hold their own place among all their other work. Oh yeah, Brann Dailor also does lead vocals in conjunction with Troy. Crazy band, exceptional musicians, and phenomenal albums. Love them to death!
The outro riff feels very much like a melody you'd hear in a sea shanty but with the aggression of storm ravaging the waters. The production as a whole evokes images of the ocean in my opinion. Matt Bayless, who produced this album, did something very similar with Oceanic by ISIS. The entire drum sound on that album sounds like it should be on a pirate ship sailing towards the horizon.
That's what I love about Mastodon, their music really emulates the song title/situation. So cool! Kind of brings you to the imagery of the situation. Sleeping Giant is one of my faves.
A lot of songs just take titles or characters from popular culture and then make nothing about them in the song, but what I love about this one is how it captures the essence of Ahab's insanity in audio form. "Heart's Alive" all day. The epic masterpiece of the Leviathan album. Drum chops for miles and a banjo-technique guitar solo that is sure to amaze. Goosebumps galore.
Hearts alive is their best song. such creative and expressive riffs, you could take all the vocals out from it and it would still tell the story of the climaxing obsession and sinking ship perfectly.

Also, if you look on YT they have posted a documentary which includes all the random clips as well as segments talking about Emperor of Sand. If you do watch it, try not to cry. They've lost a lot of people. Troy's partner is a cancer survivor; several others were not so lucky, including people's mothers. I cried and I didn't try not to. :-)
Oh my god definitely one of the most epic songs ever. It just sounds like something that would play during a movie in the final act where the good guy becomes victorious and sounds like a final song. That whole album is still one of the greatest
Brann is an amazing drummer, one of the best in the business. And even more impressive is that he does vocals on a ton of tracks. In fact, there's no "lead singer" in Mastodon. Troy Sanders (bass) and Brent Hinds (guitar), all contribute their own voices to the music. And boy, do I love these early tracks from them (this was the album that introduced me to them). They sound like a bunch of angry, drunk sailors. Appropriate, since the album itself is based on Moby Dick. But you'll get to hear an amazing evolution of their voices, and the overall music, as you dig into more of their stuff.
I was introduced to them after living in a collective with three other guys. We later got to see them live at the Roskilde Festival. It was absolutely huge and epic. One of my favorite concert experiences despite Troy having a trouble with a sore through they delivered one hell of a show.
Being a surfer you should really appreciate the watery musicality to this whole album. In particular the middle section in this song always conjures images of ocean swell, turbulent surface movements with deep currents underneath. God there are so many great Mastodon songs to do.
The loose & fill-rich drumming always gives me a washing feeling as if on a ship caught in swelling waves with water & foam splashing around on all sides, the stern heaving loudly and the bow swaying at a clouded horizon. With a vicious white whale in the distance ;-)
Oceanic by ISIS is also a fantastic album that evokes images of the ocean. It was produced by Matt Bayless, who was the producer on Leviathan and Blood Mountain. If you've never listened to Oceanic I highly recommend it. I feel like fans of Mastodon's sludgier stuff and also of the atmosphere of Crack the Skye would like Oceanic.
There are sooo many great mastodon songs you could choose from. My personal recommendations would be Capillarian Crest, The Last Baron (long one!), and Aqua Dementia.
Need for speed “most wanted” influences anyone?…that game introduced me to so much great music… mastodon is one of those gems that has stayed with me through the years…pure nostalgia…
Brann is sick, he has drumming videos on YT, would be cool to see you react to those. The whole band is dope, best band of the 2000s along with QOTSA imo.
Definitely think my top 5 metal bands of 2000-2010 in no real order are: Mastodon, Tool, Protest the Hero, Every Time I Die, and Opeth. All 5 are progressive while still being heavy and keeping those catchy hooks and riffs in just about every song.
@@redaffix7320 interesting list. Tool is probably my favorite band but I wouldn’t consider them metal at all. Maybe that’s just me. On the other hand Protest the Hero is not my thing. Can’t stand them personally and never got into Every Time I Die. But Opeth, Tool, and Mastodon are brilliant. I would throw in Deftones and NIN as 2 other favorites of mine that aren’t quite metal imo but get very close to it at times like Tool.
@@redaffix7320 Technically that's a tough category. Considering Tool only put out 10,000 Days in 2006 would make it hard for me to choose them specifically between 2000-2010. Opeth is a definite, Dream Theater is an easy choice for me because they released at least 4 different albums which were also their heaviest. I would probably take Avenged Sevenfold, I just love City of Evil and their self titled was really good too. Still many more to consider, Mastadon, Gojira, Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan, Strapping Young Lad, Nevermore (one of my personal favorites), and LOTS more.
@@jasonallen5318 Tool also released Lateralus in 2001, which combined with 10000 days keeps them up there. I would also consider tool to be more the metal side of rock, mostly because of the aggression in instrumentals. Even if they're a little atypical of standard metal. @ Bub I can see how people might be turned off by Rody's theatrical vocals or Keith's 2000's hardcore screams, but I definitely thing their musicianship, the riffs, and the writing are top notch.
Please keep digging into Mastodon. Also, if possible, try to react to stuff from different albums... as their sound does change up a bit. Each album definitely has a distinct feel to it.
This might be hard to hear so I'm sorry, but it's actually a telecaster on that intro, Brent is just a maniac and hybrid picks it. The Tele gives it that twang that makes it sound like a banjo.
Brann the drummer sent my wife a happy birthday video, complete legend, down to earth. This band is full of honest, good bloke, musical geniuses. \M/astodon
Blood and thunder is a very popular song of theirs but imo you should listen to literally anything from Crack the skye. Such a perfect album from top to bottom.
Love them. Started as a hardcore band, transitioned to a little bit of some strange song styles a la Ween or Primus, and since the self-titled they've been grooving and rocking with some of the best and under exposed albums like Strange Cousins, Beale street and Robot Hive. Love the jam room and unreleased stuff too, they have a shitload of fun on stuff like David Rose and What Would a Wookie Do. Edit: just had to say Neil Fallon is Captain Ahab in my headcannon. Dude has the voice and the beard. Also, he has a pretty good recipe for crab cakes in song-form: Hot Bottom Feeder.
They way I like to think of Branns drumming is that he's so good that he gets bored with a tempo and has to do unnecessary drumfills in between and it sounds so good.
Brann Dailor of Mastodon is one of the finest drummers around. Can't wait for you to react to some of their other songs!! Their vocal game is also amazing, with 3 of the band members sharing vocal duties, including the drummer, with no two songs having the same vocal approach.
I love your breakdowns. I'm a fan of many song reaction channels, but your knowledge of the composition and writing and instrumentation is just top tier! Especially love these metal breakdowns! Keep it up!
I’ll be honest my friend I have never listened to Mastodon before. After listening to that dissection and decomposition I went on Spotify and listened to that entire album and they have quite a unique style!!!! Adding that to my song (band) play thanks to you my friend!!!!! Magnificent reaction, by the way!!!!!
Dude I’m from Hawaii and if I ever see you around ever, I will give you the biggest hug for how much depth and perspective you’ve exhibited in each of your videos. You have so much insight and open-mindedness to music that I need to learn from. Aloha from Oahu!
One of my best concert experiences was Mastodon playing Leviathan in its entirety plus some songs from Crack the Skye. Blood and Thunder almost bring the entire venue down to rubble.
As a long time Mastodon fan, who's seen the live 20 times. I'll give you my top 5 Mastodon tracks Megalodon (from the same album as Blood and Thunder), Quintessence, The Sparrow, Steambreather and Toes to Toes. Incredible band, can't wait for the new album.
Love Mastodon! Brann Dailor is a lunatic octopus on the drums and it is amazing. Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher tend to play the same riffs at different positions of the neck of the guitar giving it that fifth/octave like feel. Gotta check out Crystal Skull, Crack the Skye, Aqua Dementia, or The Last Baron.
I saw Mastodon in Atlanta at The Tabernacle in 2014 and it was the best show I have ever seen. You could literally feel the electricity and power in the air. Also, Gojira opened for them so that was a big plus. Best night ever.
Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are three very different yet incredible concept albums. Any track from any three of them are great in their own way. Each album almost getting more intricate, progressive and more mature as time moves on but always writing fantastic metal tracks and setting the bar for others around them.
All these great suggestions for Mastodon reactions, and finally someone mentions what may be the most obvious one … Seabeast … I know it was a popular song but its also a fantastic song with some incredible playing, esp that section towards the end
I'd love to see your reaction to the easily most progressive Mastodon song "The Last Baron". That track is such a masterpiece with tons of twists and hooks.
Leviathan was the first Mastodon album I listened to, really blew my mind ..I gotta say tho the best drums I heard in a Mastodon album is definitely on Remission. Not a lotta people talk about Remission enough...it's a technical masterpiece an my personal favourite Mastodon album just for the drums , tied with blood mountain.
Yes, Mastodon! I've kept their Crack the Skye cd in my car for the last 3 years as a fallback for when my phone fails me, every song from that album is great! Could you add Inferi to your list please :)
Yes!!!!!!!! and that guitar part is like climbing a massive mountain. Which is what that tune is about. That was the tune that the drummer in me was blown away by Brann Dailor.
Thank you! The breakdown of Bran Dailor's drums and snare work is so overlooked in this album. Emotion is a hard thing to convey with a drum and especially in metal music where things have to be fast and mostly bass focused. Top to bottom, this album takes the cake as far as what can be done with a snare drum. He absolutely murders this snare the entire track list. I highly recommend anyone that is a drummer and into metal listen to it if its not in your main playlist already.
I play guitar, but this is my favorite drum, metal album. It is just unbelievable what Dailor does on it. Nothing is more all over the place and yet simultaneously so locked in. For EVERY album after, you can tell he decided to restrain the madness at least a tad.
Yeah Brann (the drummer) is a beast. The band has gotten slightly more "proggy" since that album, so exploring somewhat later things will be interesting. Other songs I recommend: "The Czar" (very proggy), "Pendulous Skin", "Hearts Alive". Also since I know you like acoustic versions, they recently did an acoustic (ish) concert streamed from the Atlanta Aquarium, though I don't think you can get hold of it yet.
As a guitar player that is returning to practice after a pretty long break, I can confirm that yes, the sliding power chords during the verse is difficulty to pull off consistently. Brent Hinds (Lead) and Bill Kellhir (Rhythm) are incredibly skilled. Edit: Great channel btw, and you should check out more songs from Mastodon’s “Leviathan”! It’s basically a concept album that tells the story of Moby Dick! Songs like “Megalodon” and “Heart’s Alive” are definitely highlights!
Mastodon is my favorite band and I would love to see you react and dissect either The Czar or The Last Baron. They're both long, multi-movement songs and really show Mastodon at their most creative and adventurous! Loved the video, keep killing it!
Mastodon rules! They have so many great songs that feature such a wide range of sounds. Definitely check out their most recent live performance from the Georgia Aquarium.
An awesome thing about Mastodon is that their sound has evolved just about every album, but in a way that only partially changes so it's a new sound but still them. Recomendations would be Oblivion or The Last Baron from the Crack the Skye album, Black Tongue or Dry Bone Valley from the album The Hunter, The Motherload or Once More 'Round the Sun from the album Once More 'Round the Sun, and Steambreather or Jaguar God from the album Emperor of Sand.
The entirety of this album, "Leviathan" is INCREDIBLE It's a concept album LOOSELY based off the story of Moby Dick, one of the last lines in this song is "Split your lungs with blood and thunder When you see the white whale Break your backs and crack your oars men If you wish to prevail This ivory leg is what propels me Harpoons thrust in the sky Aim directly for his crooked brow And look him straight in the eye" Another personal favorite track of mine is the song "Megalodon"
Loosely? The album cover has straight up Moby-Dick, the white whale painted. Loosely? The whole Blood and Thunder almost has exact quotes from the book. Loosely? Dooooooood.
Love the video and love this band. I remember first coming across this track 16 years ago, and it completely changing my life for the better. Other amazing Mastodon songs to consider: Crack the Skye from the album "Crack the Skye", an homage to the drummer's sister, Colony of Birchmen from the album "Blood Mountain", Dry Bone Valley off of the album "The Hunter", any song from "Once More 'Round the Sun" is pretty solid. All those tremendous songs aside, by far, Toe to Toes from "Cold Dark Place" is the song that has peeled apart my heart the most. I listen for lyrics in metal quite a bit, and the lyrics in that song, coupled with the most beautiful sound coming from those wonderfully talented men, almost brings me to tears every time I listen to it. Not hyperbole, actually cried the first time I heard it. Once you have done "enough" videos about Mastodon, or if you feel you must know more about the drummer, I implore you to look up the a bit of the life of Brann, he is my single favorite human being and drummer. Got a chance to meet him, and at least to me, it was a very powerful moment. Nothing against Troy, Brent or Bill, they are all equally phenomenal humans and I love them as well, but Brann is just... something else. The documentaries they put out about their creative processes are fantastic as well. Highly recommend checking out their TH-cam channel or however else you support artists.
On Mastodons later stuff from Crack the Skye and beyond, the Drummer Brann Dailor also nails some incredible lead vocals while drumming fills like the great Neil Peart trying to outdo himself.
If you feel up to reviewing one of their longer songs, definitely check out The Czar: Usurper/Escape/Martyr/Spiral or Jaguar God. Brent Hinds is a criminally underrated guitarist and his solos in those songs hit a combination of soulful and technical that no one else can replicate
These guys are real musicians. They have so many absolute bangers its unreal their ability to make the most badass music More Than I Could Chew Asleep in the Deep Curl of the Burl Show Yourself Oblivion Sleeping Giant Are my favorite songs. I have so many more that I love to play on my guitar. Huge fan of Mastodon!
Definitely should check out colony of birchmen! Also check out Crossing the Rubicon by the human abstract. Classically trained band members in hardcore
Man I’m glad you did some Mastodon! I think you should dive into this band even if it’s just for your personal enjoyment. It’s a band that constantly evolved their sound getting better with each album. I think they hit a pinnacle with Crack the Skye and did something incredible for themselves in terms of musicianship and writing. That album was next level! And then really hit their stride with “their” sound with the Hunter/Once More Round The Sun! I think you would really enjoy the ride that is Mastodon. Side note: this is a 4 piece band in which by their 4th Album (Crack the Skye) 3 of the 4 members we’re doing vocals. This is when they achieved a whole new level! You should definitely, absolutely, without question, watch Live at the Aragon! It’s a live session of them playing Crack the Skye i. it’s entirety! Your welcome haha
One of my favourite Mastodon songs, they have definitely mellowed on more recent albums, but they are also growing as songwriters and exploring more territory Ole Nessie and Naked Burn are the two I'd love to see you react to
Wow, interesting choice! From newer material last time to the old time classic:) Didn't expect that. Next time, if I may ask, do something from the Crack the Skye album. Just heard the bassist say that's their pinnacle in an interview the other day, and personally I agree, that one got me into Mastodon.
It definitely is their pinnacle imo. To me the signature Mastodon sound is Crack the Skye and Blood Mountain, and then a few songs in other albums also get up to that standard.
The drummer is amazing, there is a great drum cam video of him doing Stargasm if you wanted to check it out. A few other of their amazing songs are Ghost of Karelia, Halloween, Jaguar God, March of the Fire Ants... and too many more to name they're so good
It's about time you listened to Ayreon! You could definitely get several videos out of Arjen's wide selection of masterpieces. Start with his 1998 album Into the Electric Castle. Cosmic Fusion is a good (under 8 minutes) track that represents him well.
I doubt anyone remembers Jethro Tull BUT his Passion Play album is a masterpiece of music. If youve never heard it before I would love to hear your take on its arrangement. Its One song (kinda) for 40ish minutes long! I really think youd like it!
I think I mentioned it in a comment before, but I only saw Mastodon live once, after the release of this album in a small cellar venue. The drums were so thick it felt like they blew the doors off of the place. They were tight as hell and despite what must be horrible acoustics, they sounded super clear and strong. It speaks to their technical skills as well as their playing prowess. This album is my favorite of theirs, love how it's almost a concept album about the Moby Dick story.
The Last Baron really shows off their musicianship and has sections where they just sound like a jam band. That's my recommendation for your next Mastodon breakdown.
Almost every further recommendation in this comment section is off the album, Crack The Skye. This album is dedicated to the drummer’s sister who he lost in childhood. It’s a perfect album, front to back
Geebz, love that you picked out Brann as the focal point in this song. He's gotta be one of the most underrated players, and in their newer stuff he picks up a lot more vocal duty (sings lead). You gotta check out his Drum Playthrough videos for his Meinl Signature Cymbals, notably Ghost of Karelia. They are videos on TH-cam. Their record 'Crack the Skye' was written for Branns late sister and every song on that record hits, but they have a large catalog of great music. Looking forward to hearing more!
I'd love to see you breakdown Fade Out or This Will Do the Job by the band Car Bomb. They are a very unique band and I think there's a lot to pick out.
Aside from god-tier drumming and (more recently) co-vocalist turns, Brann Dailor also has written the VAST majority of Mastodon's lyrics... And he might be the nicest, most generous musician from ATL metal.

But you'll get to hear an amazing evolution of their voices, and the overall music, as you dig into more of their stuff.
bill does backup vocals live too!
Brann sang on a couple of 2 Minutes to Late Night covers. He channels Ozzy in one and King Diamond in another. Dude can sing.
Oceanic is my favourite ISIS album. I had no idea both of these albums were produced by the same guy, it makes so much sense!@@mastod0n1
Your channel makes me happy.. 37 year old metal head and I love listening to you break it down...
There are sooo many great mastodon songs you could choose from. My personal recommendations would be Capillarian Crest, The Last Baron (long one!), and Aqua Dementia.
Capillarian Crest is such an impressive track, but maybe The Last Baron or The Czar would be more interesting from a composition point of view
Capillarian Crest would be mind blowing for Geebz, so much going on in that track
Capillarian Crest would be great!
The drumming on Cap crest is so fuckin awesome, what a song.
I agree but cap crest is also a mind eff of a guitar peice. It's like foggy mountain breakdown on acid.
I always describe Brann Dailor as a drum fill that gained sentience.
That's a perfect description
But a drum fill that also can sing that became sentient
Guest vocals on this track is Neil Fallon of Clutch. You must do some Clutch. You simply must. 🤙🤘
Wow, that's cool to know - looks like I'm Clutch bound!!
@@KeyOfGeebz YES!! Love to see some Clutch on here!
Definitely Clutch!!!
Damn... Now that I know that I can't unhear it 🤔
@@KeyOfGeebz clutch - the Regulator
Need for speed “most wanted” influences anyone?…that game introduced me to so much great music… mastodon is one of those gems that has stayed with me through the years…pure nostalgia…
Yes! This song always reminds me of that game! And THUG2, although I don't think it was actually part of the soundtrack.
Here we go! Crack the Skye, another great Mastodon track.
"Ol'e Nessie", "Mother Puncher", "March of the Fire Ants" and "Sleeping Giants" are some more greats from Mastodon.
Sleeping Giant is an ascendant track. Magic beyond my musical comprehension flows through that track.
March of the fire ants! Killer riff
Mother Puncher. Best song title ever.
Iron Tusk, The Hunter, Black Tongue, Asleep in the Deep really literllay any song from mastodon is great
yes, all these songs
I’d add Sylosis and Be’lakor into that list for me personally but mastodon and QOTSA kick ass no doubt max.
@@jasonallen5318 Tool also released Lateralus in 2001, which combined with 10000 days keeps them up there. I would also consider tool to be more the metal side of rock, mostly because of the aggression in instrumentals. Even if they're a little atypical of standard metal.
@
Bub I can see how people might be turned off by Rody's theatrical vocals or Keith's 2000's hardcore screams, but I definitely thing their musicianship, the riffs, and the writing are top notch.
Please keep digging into Mastodon. Also, if possible, try to react to stuff from different albums... as their sound does change up a bit. Each album definitely has a distinct feel to it.
Last Baron, The Czar, Ghost of Karelia, Stargasm, and Jaguar God are a couple of my favorites by them.
Yes, across the board
Yup, I try to get every react channel to do Jaguar God and it's disappointing how many don't :( absolute monster of modern prog
The whole mighty blood mountain is worth a reaction!
Jaguar God!
Word!
Thanks for checking out Mastodon. Could you do "Divinations" from them next? It's got a sick Banjo intro that I think you'll like.
This might be hard to hear so I'm sorry, but it's actually a telecaster on that intro, Brent is just a maniac and hybrid picks it. The Tele gives it that twang that makes it sound like a banjo.
Love Mastodon! There's a lot of gold to dig through in their catalogue
The Last Baron is a must!
EDIT: Toe to Toes and The Czar are also absolute bangers, highly recommend checking them out.
Toe to Toes 🤘
I concur!! Toe to Toes!!! Would love to hear your take on that. My favorite Mastodon track
@@stevegruhl7280 Plenty in that track for Geebz to break down too..
100% yes! Toe to Toes is amazing!
Brann the drummer sent my wife a happy birthday video, complete legend, down to earth. This band is full of honest, good bloke, musical geniuses. \M/astodon
You've got to give Ember City a listen. Brann is on the kit and has vocals.
Very underrated song!
Very close to my heart
Blood and thunder is a very popular song of theirs but imo you should listen to literally anything from Crack the skye. Such a perfect album from top to bottom.
HARPOONS THRUST TO THE SKYYYY
Spiraling up thru the crack in the skyeeeeee
@@_dmfd I SEE YOUR FACE IN CONSTELLATIONNNS
The vocals in the middle section are by Neil Fallon of Clutch, definitely a band you’d enjoy checking out one day.
It keeps giving me the most chills
Thanks! After all these years I did not know that.
Now that is SUPER cool! Recently got into Clutch and boy Oh boy do I have a LOT of albums to get through.
Mastodon FTW. I recommend Aqua Dementia and Hearts Alive from the same album.
I love your breakdowns. I'm a fan of many song reaction channels, but your knowledge of the composition and writing and instrumentation is just top tier! Especially love these metal breakdowns! Keep it up!
I appreciate that!
Hearts Alive from this album is a freakin journey man. Highly recommend!
the vocals after the bridge are sung by one Neil Fallon of Clutch, give them a listen I'm sure you'll find plenty of production candy
Neil is the fuckin man!
I saw the tour where they played Crack the Skye front to back then an hour or so of Leviathan and Blood Mountain. So good.
Brann Dailor is such a wicked drummer. Beats the ever living hell out of his kit, such a unique style as well.
The Last Baron is well worth a visit! It's a masterpiece.
Yes!
Crack the Skye, the Czar might be the best of Mastadon's songs from a composition point of view.
Wow! One of my favorite songs by them! This album is a classic
Agreed. Great album!
My favorite album of theirs.
Iron Tusk, Seabeast, Hearts Alive and Megalodon from the same record 👌🏻🤘🏻 this i my favorite band of all time. So much diversity in all songs
All these great suggestions for Mastodon reactions, and finally someone mentions what may be the most obvious one … Seabeast … I know it was a popular song but its also a fantastic song with some incredible playing, esp that section towards the end
Man you have a plethora of amazing tracks from Mastodon to do vids on. Love watching your dissection of amazing tracks and bands.
I'd love to see your reaction to the easily most progressive Mastodon song "The Last Baron". That track is such a masterpiece with tons of twists and hooks.
Brann is one of my favorite drummers, and if you like his drumming, you need to listen to every track from every album.
“Capillarian Crest” is probably Brann’s most impressive drumming.
Yes!!!!!!!! and that guitar part is like climbing a massive mountain. Which is what that tune is about. That was the tune that the drummer in me was blown away by Brann Dailor.
Not to mention Cedric Bixler-Zavala having a guest appearance. It has been my favorite Mastodon song for the last 13 years.
One of the best drummers of modern rock, best fills ever? His tom sound is so rich and full it's beautiful.
Oh yeah, just wait til you do a song where Brann sings as well as plays that well :)
White whale! Holy Grail!
One of my all time favorite tracks by one of my all time favorite bands.
Keep up the excellent decomposition Geebz!
Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession
Please and thanks you.🙏🤞🦥😀
Yes please!!!!!!!!!
Yesssssssss
I would love something like Telos as well. Blake's drums on that track are so sick. Selkies is definitely a staple though.
Or White Walls...cuz holy shit.
Their drummer Brann Dailor's style really shines in Crack The Skye. He is inspired by 60s and 70s fusion, and it comes through on that album.
The greatest Mastodon song of all time is the intro to the Aqua Teen movie.
Cut you up with a linoleum knife 🤣
DON'T TALK, WATCH!
DON'T TALK, WATCH!
The best part about Mastodon is the fact that each one of their albums are different. That's what makes them so great.
Gushing about Brann's drumming, wait till you hear him singing while he keeps up that insane drum beat at the same time. what a legend
Mastodon is my favorite band and I would love to see you react and dissect either The Czar or The Last Baron. They're both long, multi-movement songs and really show Mastodon at their most creative and adventurous! Loved the video, keep killing it!
I love the end part where Neil Fallon of Clutch comes crashing in. Best part of the song
The entirety of this album, "Leviathan" is INCREDIBLE
It's a concept album LOOSELY based off the story of Moby Dick, one of the last lines in this song is
"Split your lungs with blood and thunder
When you see the white whale
Break your backs and crack your oars men
If you wish to prevail
This ivory leg is what propels me
Harpoons thrust in the sky
Aim directly for his crooked brow
And look him straight in the eye"
Another personal favorite track of mine is the song "Megalodon"
Loosely? The album cover has straight up Moby-Dick, the white whale painted. Loosely? The whole Blood and Thunder almost has exact quotes from the book. Loosely? Dooooooood.
@@kran1al925 cool story, bro
Do The Last Baron to fully understand what Mastodon is :)
Hell yeah
The great Neil Fallon(Clutch) coming in on vocals after the breakdown.......brings this track to another level🤘🤘
They have so many absolute bangers its unreal their ability to make the most badass music
More Than I Could Chew
Asleep in the Deep
Curl of the Burl
Show Yourself
Oblivion
Sleeping Giant
Are my favorite songs. I have so many more that I love to play on my guitar. Huge fan of Mastodon!
Definitely should check out colony of birchmen!
Also check out Crossing the Rubicon by the human abstract. Classically trained band members in hardcore
I completely forgot about that band!!!! I know what I’ll be doing tonight!!!
The whole Leviathan album is so killer, the second this song ended I was hearing the 2nd track of the album start up.
One of my favourite Mastodon songs, they have definitely mellowed on more recent albums, but they are also growing as songwriters and exploring more territory
Ole Nessie and Naked Burn are the two I'd love to see you react to
Wow, interesting choice! From newer material last time to the old time classic:) Didn't expect that. Next time, if I may ask, do something from the Crack the Skye album. Just heard the bassist say that's their pinnacle in an interview the other day, and personally I agree, that one got me into Mastodon.
Absolutely great album. The title song brought me to tears every time I heard it live.
I saw Mastodon live in 2019 and actually got a drumstick from Brann! It was amazing, one of my favorite shows
I doubt anyone remembers Jethro Tull BUT his Passion Play album is a masterpiece of music. If youve never heard it before I would love to hear your take on its arrangement. Its One song (kinda) for 40ish minutes long! I really think youd like it!
I'm glad you listened to this early stuff. The first two albums are what it's all about for me
Lifesblood, Remission and Leviathan 🤝
Mastodon - Bladecatcher ! BUT also; Circle of Cysquatch, Ol'e Nessie, We Built This Come Death, Island, Hearts Alive, Mother Puncher, etc etc...
This album is my favorite of theirs, love how it's almost a concept album about the Moby Dick story.
leviathan and blood mountain are my fave albums by this band. both albums are solid front to back
The Last Baron really shows off their musicianship and has sections where they just sound like a jam band.
Lol unique
Thanks for this one Geebz. This album redefined my metal love in 2003, what a powerhouse.
PLEASE react to: Feijão de Corda - Kiko Loureiro Trio - live at sesc instrumental Brasil!!!!! You won't regret!
Aside from god-tier drumming and (more recently) co-vocalist turns, Brann Dailor also has written the VAST majority of Mastodon's lyrics... And he might be the nicest, most generous musician from ATL metal.
