    When you hear someone performing the song solo like this, you realize not only what great talent it takes to play the piece correctly, but also what a remarkable composition this was in the first place. Bravo!

      That's why so few ELP cover bands.
      You need Keith Emerson and he was the best or 2nd best Rock keyboardist....and a Moog...and the technician to keep it in tune.

      As someone who can see, I can say it is pretty amazing to see as well as hear. I would compare it to the keyboard version of eddie van halen's eruption solo in terms of it's difficulty.

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not to take away from her skill one single bit, even sighted musicians don’t depend on sight very much to master their instrument. It is muscle memory, practice, and feel that fully run that engine of mastery. By the time you’ve looked for confirmation, it’s too late anyway.

    • @DavidLindes
      @DavidLindes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@artysanmobile Indeed. This is why I have such an issue with touch-screens as a human-computer interface paradigm... granted, there's a degree to which even these can be used by folks without sight... just... sighted or no, they can't be used with the same deftness as something that has physical shape and consistency and feedback the way the keys and knobs and such on these keyboards present themselves.

      What's funny is that everyone seems to agree that the sound of the organ compels the "sound" of the other instruments. Yet when you listen to various backing tracks, it doesn't work that way in reverse, even though in the native Boston version you'd swear the guitars and drums practically drown out the organ; it just sounds like someone riffing a deft but not especially striking sequence power chords. The whole song is so masterfully produced that the whole is like five times the sum of the individual parts.
      I figure I have about three more months of an hour a day of practice before I can play this quasi-perfectly at the required rate of 9 notes per second. (At half-speed, it sounds like something from "Twin Peaks.") And if you miss even one of those notes playing this song solo, it's as bad as hitting a wrong note and makes a huge dent in the overall performance. When you get to the parts played as chords, it almost feels like you get a short nap as a reward for just getting there.

      @gooberthoreau Tom auditioned to join Barry's band as a keyboard/organ player in 1969/1970. Tom was always known first as a keyboard/organ player. His guitar playing came afterwards.. In addition, on the record Barry is covering all electric rhythm guitar parts on Foreplay and Long Time and Barry is playing all of the leads on Long Time as well as the huge power chords in Long Time.

      Maybe for the same reason I did...I've got bad shoulder issues which keeps me from practicing too much piano, so this was inspiring to see someone with issues much greater than mine go out and kick ass! I won't complain about it again after seeing this.

    This is a fairly good proof of something that I have felt for my entire life in music, and that is, people see music in their minds. It's not the realm of "outside" vision. As Stevie Wonder put it, it's an "inner vision." I was also very entertained by the fact that there are a bunch of guys watching and listening with rapt attention, who are my age, and who remember when that album came out......and the music is being played by a young woman who wasn't even born that week!!!
