To stop the fine gold from floating just put a wisker of a drop of dish detergent in the water. It gets rid of the surface tension so the gold won't float.
Ive done some dredging. You gotta go deep. The shallow stuff was stripped away on the last rip snorting rise. But when you go deep, that hard packed clay is gonna mean some work, not to mention the overburden just flows into your hole faster than your suction hose can take it out. Bog rocks near the bottom? You may be about to find gold, but you gotta dig like you know its down there. Sometimes its not.
have you dredged the Arkansas River before? We were quite tempted to continue downwards in our hole, but limited time and other prospects forced us to move on. So those composite rocks we found are bog rocks? Shoot, we should have punch down more. Ah well, next year. Thanks for your comments.
We started out small, Bob with the Gold Cube and I had a little 7 inch wide sluice. As gold fever set in we of course expanded. But always stayed with placer in creeks and rivers. Once we set up to our liking, we haven't had to purchase anything new. As Tony Beets says, 'drill drill drill'. In other words you got to do the leg work to find something worth mining.

if you don't go broke prospecting your not having fun . the view around you is priceless😮
That is a lot of rock throwing! How deep is bedrock?
Never found bedrock. We went about 7 feet down. A little gold was there but less and less as we went deeper.
But, yea, a lot of rock throwing!
Want to go broke, invest in gold prospecting equipment 😂
If you aren't using it correctly or aren't in the right spot absolutely.
