  • The new Renault Zoe looks like the old Renault Zoe. But that's where the similarities end. A major overhaul has given it a longer range and a much nicer interior, making it one of the most compelling electric cars on sale.

    This looks like a real winner. They should bring it to the US, we really don't have something comparable here (everything is faster and more expensive). The 135hp Zoe is fast enough and a more reasonable price and is very efficient (better than 4.5mi/kWh by my calculations).
    I have a Chevy Bolt with 200hp and really, its overpowered (I have raced a Camaro multiple times and won every time). I don't need a car that beats a Camaro, I'd be happy with the Zoe's performance.

    Why I brought up the problem of driver only testing - Bought a Suzuki Ignis in 2018 & if reviews had been done with a full load it would have been noticed that the car bottomed out even on minor motorway undulations. The vehicle also edited a loud cracking noise on full lock, identified to wrong grease on half shafts, also replaced by Suzuki. Problem since rectified by Suzuki with new coil springs and bump stops, but only if owners complain - so a lot of vehicles will go past warranty without getting rectified since they are not considered safety recalls - What car did later identify first problem on a long term test

  • @margaretforrest6110
    @margaretforrest6110 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Problem with the ZOE is they are using the old Clio floorpan and it is not a purpose built electric car starting with the chassis. They have put the batteries under the seats which means you can't lower the driver's seat if you are tall and the back seats don't fold down properly to give a reasonably flat load surface. I have decided to wait for the more expensive, slightly larger externally but much more internally spacious ID3. I am looking to replace a diesel Skoda Fabia and the replacement vehicle has to give at least as much space inside for 4 people and also be an easy to use and practical load carrier when the back seats are folded down.

I have been in other relatively premium old cars and the smooth pastic areas are usually the ones that degrade more over time. The hard plastics usually last longer, as long as they are not so crappy that they harden and shatter.

    The 50kW DC fast charge on the Zoe and Chevy Bolt is such a limiting factor on this car. I really wish the 2019,2020 was at minimum 75kW with a battery pack this large. The charging curve is also insane... >65% and that 50kW drops to ~28kW.

    • @timaustin2000
      @timaustin2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is that most of my fast charging has been "splash and dash" - IE, needing an extra 30-40 miles to get home. 50KW does fine with that. Indeed, 22KW does fine with that. Only ever stopped for more than 20 minues twice in a year on motorways with my ZE40 Zoe,... at 22KW. Bjorn's tests aren't particularly "real world". Who goes 1000km in a day?

    @moojuiceuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you look at other TH-cam videos of the ZE50, you'll find that the "rapid DC" 50kW charging capabilities never actually hit 50kW. It's 45kW max in most cases and tails off from 55% charge to 80% 45kW to 27kW. Given that the cheapest CCS version is advertised for £27,920, it really is poor value. The headline £25,670 price doesn't come with CCS, just 22kW AC.
    Whilst it's a lovely little car in some areas, Renault need to drop the price by about £10k across the board on Zoe otherwise it's just not a wise cash purchase right now.
    If Dacia made an electric Duster with 150 mile range and this charging setup (50kW CCS + 22kW Chamelion AC) for £18k to £20k they would be onto a winner.

    So much cheaper, more practical, simpler and better looking than any Tesla, One of the first EV's I've seen worth considering. I'd only go for the base model though, throwing £thousands extra at EVs tends to defeat the point on both cost and environmental grounds.

    I hate using terms like “man’s car” or “woman’s car”, but I genuinely do feel that Zoe is more designed for ladies of a smaller build.
    While I’ve got a friend who’s about 6ft tall driving one, he shares the drive with Mrs, whose noticeably a smaller build, and and sitting higher up would be a confidence-inspiring driving position for many.
    Maybe not my taste, but the fact that Zoe being a smaller car by dimension but still enough room on the inside is a winner, not to mention the more affordable price

    • @Demonstormlord
      @Demonstormlord 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The exterior rear door handles are located in the bottom rear corner of the windows. Look closely at 00:14 and you'll see that there's a triangle shaped corner of black plastic above the rear wheel. That's the handle. I think you press the small finger sized indent to pop out the rest of the handle, and then use it like a normal handle.

      The more you drive, the more you save. Found an older article about the R90 Zoe and the cost per mile was about 52.2p. Depends a bit how you charge etc. naturally. This is with residuals etc. counted in. It's cheaper than petrol after probably like 30 miles a day driving.

      @@johannesbekker1970 yeah for sure, it does rely on being able to charge from home and swapping to an overnight tariff with a company like Octopus Energy. If you relied on public rapid charging then it could get up to £0.10 per mile.
      Quite often workplaces and some car parks offer free slow charging, which makes the £ per mile even less.
      Also remember that a lot of the cost of petrol is tax, home electricity is only 8% VAT in comparison.
