I had this issue where I was in chronic pain for years and finally had a PT who fixed it in one session. But it required her to push into my rear and groin and pull my leg etc that I wouldn’t be able to do myself. It reappeared recently and all I remembered her telling me was I had an “upslip” or a “downslip” I’ve been in pain for weeks when sitting as well as intermittent piriformus syndrome with nerve pain. Anyway… I did this stretch last night before I went to bed and it was like that PT session years ago. As soon as I stood up I was like new again! This is great. THANKS SO MUCH.
I would be bragging a little bit to say I become an amateur PhD...on this topic because of my desire to avoid hip surgery, And I am delighted to find this video...
Thank you so much for this information. I had been to PT for 2 months and chiropractor for 2 months and was only getting worse. I did your exercises and in 1 week it was so much better!
Kelly great news! it is a mystery as it has as I state never been validated with imaging but some really benefit from the treatment. Maybe someday...Thank you for your feedback.
I can't wait to try this. I can't walk far, and have to bend forward. I feel very weak, and unstable walking. Duck like. Very debilitating and depressing. I'm 41 and feel no hope. I have L5/S1 fusion and fake disc. Seen the spinal surgeon again for potential si fusion. Going to chat about injections and burning the nerves for a positive relief test tomorrow. Now in a twist of fate im hoping coming across your videos, this could be it. I desperately dont want more surgery. Like a lady i watched on one of your videos, i have Eds hypermobility. Had my 2nd child, had the first surgery after the first. Had a slip on a step and landed across the buttock. I didnt realise at the time, but my coxxyx has broken amd ia at a 90 anterior angle. I've been watching your video, and I am hooked! What a fantastic guy, and could bring such relief for so many people. 🙏 Thank you for your videos, they are very informative and clear.❤
I'm in total agreement with you! Have you done anything further with Jerry? I present with something similar but not one PT or DO or anyone can figure it out!😢
I like these videos. Simple short clearly explained. Don't know how I didn't find him sooner. We all have a repertoire of exercises by now but he shows us new ones. Interesting, to say the least. The ones in the other video hurt a great deal but I can handle these. I have full range of movement but can't seem to stand up straight. It is better with daily exercises but takes bloody long. Never had this before. The pain was horrific when I started but now I am pain-free (more or less). I can do everything except straightening up. Very disappointing. I also like how he emphasized during demonstration that u must be comfortable, no need to push so hard that you die from the pain... which I tend to do. Ease is certainly the key. I like it here. I like it a lot. Thank you so much for the upload.. xx..
If you wonder- do my videos help? YES! A week ago I stepped 1 foot in a hole in my yard, and in 5 min. had debilitating pain, spasms and weakness on the opposite low back. I spent a week icing, resting, doing all the SI release videos I could find. Nothing. I used your technique and in 5 min. it started working. Next day, some muscle soreness, but no impingement pain or decreased mobility- thank you so much!!! I was missing work and sucking down tylenol.
How often should you do this self treatment? This was the first configuration that took away 99% of the pain I have been having for months. Everything else has just reduced it by 50%. So grateful to find your videos and heard of you through a SI joint pain facebook group where they sing your praises. Now I can totally see why!
I believe that it is a one-time fix for uncomplictaed downslip. no research to validate it but some ptinets are remarkaly better with the treatment whatever is actually occurring!
Ive been dealing with load bearing pain for months, and randomly did this exercise the other night, except with my knee to chest. Then I did leg circles and another motion that kind of resembele a standing leg raise. I experienced prettye extreme pain later that night, but afterwards the si joint issues seem to be gone! With si issues, I couldn't walk for more than a couple minutes without crouching down, I just tried a 15 minute walk earlier today and no problem!
This has been the most effective exercise to treat my right side, I would say best stretch for the downslip, my question is, for how many days should i apply this and how many times in a day?
sadly I was no able to find a health care provider here in Austria who reflects your thought process so have to rely on myself...I am very impressed with your videos.
thanks doc!! your video is super helpful! I am aware that it is not accurate unless you examine my pelvis, tho can I assume that posterior fixation/outflare/downslip come together often? Ive watched the other video in which you explain three exercises(hip extension and letting the leg go, putting a foam under left ileum, adduct the hip to the right and stretch) and it helped a lot loosen my SI joint soft tissue. I think left pelvis downslip is(or should be)accompanied by a posterior fixation/roatation, in this case should I do the door frame exercise (the one in this vid) along with the other three exercises that mainly deal with a posterior rotation. I really appreciate your help, I wish I could visit your clinic in Denver (which takes 12 hours by plane from where I live🇰🇷 😢😢😢😢😢😢)
Is there a tendon or ligament in this area or on the inner side of the pelvis that can actually get hung up or slide over and get stuck, that causes extreme pain and inhibits normal gate? Something SIMILAR to when the Biceps Tendon slides out of its groove in the shoulder?
The goal is to capture the approximate frontal plane of the joint and then induce a vertical force via the femur. It is somewhat similar to my passive correction.
A piece of heavy metal fell down from “above/the side” and hit me on my left hip. I was bending forward a bit, when it hit. Shortly after i had pain in my left si joint area. MR showed inflammation, actually in both si joints. Lots of pain in buttocks, low back, tight hamstrings in my left side. Chiropractor says left si joint is not moving. And has tried to release it, but not much has happend. Im thinking that the impact on the hipbone made it wedge down, “slide downwards” on the sacrum. Locking itself there it that position. It has been over two years in this situation - it is so painfull, and is actually just getting worse. But i believe that i have found the reason now - and therefor help could be on its way☺️. My hipbone was “hammered” downwards, and therefor my si joint is wedge into the sacrum in an downslip. If you could comment, that would be awesome😁😌😌. Thank you for your videos! Kind regards from Denmark, Karen
Wouldn't the abduction and external rotation gap the anterior aspect of the SI joint and adduction and internal rotation gap the posterior aspect of the SI joint?
Hi jerry! I have a question I have practiced this self treatment video for downslip and the other one u posted for upslip just to see what problem I would possibly have. When I did the upslip self treatment I felt relief in my upper si joint where I have a constant inflammation. But when I did this it increase my inflammation in around my pelvic region. Is the excercise that reduce the inflammation is better? Or not necessarily.
That can be variable and if present is due to muscle inducing pelvic asymmetry as the amount of vertical mobility is very small but much marketing and mythology out there
Hi Jerry. I've been unsuccessfully trying to have a mysterious sijd fixed. I've been to many practitioners and no one can seem to figure it out. After watching all your videos I am thinking it's an up or downslip. Before I go trying your methods I'd like to know what do you think. I tried to pick up something heavy at work. Went down into a deadlift position. Grasping an apparently immovable object. Straight back and pushed through my legs trying to deadlift it with all my might and tweaked something. Would you imagine that to cause an up or a down slip?
Symptoms can be quite variable depends on the totality of the injury so fair guess is one sided low back and sij area pain dull ache rare lower extremity paraesthesia
Is there a permanent solution? I’m a 23 year old athlete and for the last year I have been dealing with this horrible pain This morning I laid on my bad, pushed into my right side and the pain was gone Will these methods put it back permanently
if that is the only presentation it is possible but best approach after treating is to retest for any other possibility because it is not always one thing.
Can't this same thing be accomplished by lying on your back and drawing a knee towards you? I had one therapist who recommended it for anyone who was sitting for long periods, as in an office chair or driving.
What you are describinf if knee goes outside the shouler works for an anterior ilium patter and can be done in a variety of positions but the technique in the video adds a vertical force
My health care professional would not have any idea one way or the other. If we had PT's around here that knew anything, I sure haven't met them!!😂😂 The whole idea of youtube is to figure it out on our own because our PT's and doctors have no idea!!😂😂😂😂😂

I LOVE that you got on the floor to demonstrate this yourself. Thanks! Andrea (Physiotherapist)

I had immediate relief from this. Having had lower back pain for months. I tried this and its has cut the pain by 90%. Thanks so much.
Omg same and I think this is really working. Wtf? I am gonna try doing it again tomorrow but i can't seem to find my usual pain when flexing my spine
I'm struggling with a persistent slip and this was a huge help, thank you Dr. Hesch.
Glad to hear Dan!

Not that I am aware of the ligaments do not go between the pelvic joints
Thanks for this, it seems that a stretch like that would actually pull the pelvis back and down more?
Am I missing something?
The goal is to capture the approximate frontal plane of the joint and then induce a vertical force via the femur. It is somewhat similar to my passive correction.

A detailed evaluation via Hesch Method using Hesch Spring tests should add clarity.
Could that ligament being so tight, cause someone to limp?
I dont think so but I almost never say never. How that be objectively validated?
THanx, I will try it
How could we self diagnose the dysfunction direction? There is noone in my area knowing this.
Please read disclaimer do you have a phyiotherapist who can study my work? We have online course at www.heschinstitute.com
Wouldn't the abduction and external rotation gap the anterior aspect of the SI joint and adduction and internal rotation gap the posterior aspect of the SI joint?
theoretically yes yet motion so minute and hard to validate but if clinically pragmatic then worthwhile
Hi jerry! I have a question

without doing 16 passive springs I cannot know if you have and what type of pelvic movement dysfunction you have.
Sharing w my chiropractor..will let her know for sure.
If he/she would like to learn my material we have a home study on the Hesch Institute website.
do you just hold your foot there on the door frame or do you push a little or a lot?
I do not push
Does downslip impact apparent “leg length”? Like making it appear shorter?
That can be variable and if present is due to muscle inducing pelvic asymmetry as the amount of vertical mobility is very small but much marketing and mythology out there

Hard to know there are many types of movement impairment hands on eval would be better than speculation
Jerry, what symptoms does this cause? I have the feeling that something is stuck in my left SI. No symptoms of sciatica.
Symptoms can be quite variable depends on the totality of the injury so fair guess is one sided low back and sij area pain dull ache rare lower extremity paraesthesia
Can a downslip present with the psis sticking out more?
anything is possible but skilled thorough micromotion spring testing is most informative. posterior psis oftentimes accompanies a "posterior ilium".
What if somebody doesnt know if he has upslip or downslip problem.can he perform both adjustment.i mean for upslip and downslip illium si joint.
Best to have a healthcare professional evaluate you.
