Ducati 600 Supersport Full Restoration EP2

- Welcome to episode 2 of the Ducati restoration series. In this episode there is lots of items to cover hence the reason the video is over 30mins long.
The first job i tackle is completely stripping down and giving a brief description of the parts needed to make a motorcycle wheel function unlike a car wheel where the wheel is just a wheel. After the description i tore down the other wheel off camera to save boring you with a repeat of the same process then it was onto taking apart the swing arm this didnt take long as there isnt much to it.
Once all the parts were torn apart i spent hours at the blasting cabinet getting rid of all the old paint and corrosion, a tedious job but well worth it for a professional finish. Once blasting was completed i coated any areas prone to rusting with hydrate 80 to kill any remaining rust and to protect the areas in the future.
Then it was onto the painting stages, Youve seen me do this a million times now so i wont bore you with in depth detail but it simply goes etch primer, high build, wet flat, base coat, clear coat, de-nib and polish and after that you will be left with parts painted better then when they left Ducati all those years ago.
I then moved my attention onto rust removal and plating of all the ancillary parts that i will need to build the frame back up. So the small parts went for a bath in deox c rust eater and the larger parts were put into the media blaster and blasted. Once the rust was removed it was a case of polishing, zinc plating then choosing what items would be yellow or silver passivated.
Then came the fun part of rebuilding the frame, with new and restored parts, the sprocket carrier and wheels got new wheel bearings, the frame got new stem bearings and the rear wheel got a new sprocket. As stated in the video the only old crusty part that was refitted was the front shocks as i need to source replacements as they are too far gone to be economically saved.
And thats about it for this episode, As i said in an earlier post i apologize for the lateness of this video and a few of my dodgy shots as i was quite ill at the time of making this video and unfortunately i kind of shows int he quality of this episodes filming and editing, But never mind the workmanship on the Ducati is still my top quality work and ill be back on top form for the next episode.
As usual i really hope you enjoy this series of videos and leave a like and a comment to let me know what you think.
Enjoy.

Really Random Channel
Ducati 600 Supersport Full Restoration EP2
Hey Guys, As you have probably noticed already i have updated the channel name and logo. The channel is no longer Really Random Channel it is now RRC Restoration. Just incase you were wondering why the water marks in the video still say Really Random Channel. Enjoy.
you prolly dont care at all but does any of you know a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Keith Cayden Instablaster :)
@Westin Benton thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Westin Benton WTF IT ACTUALLY WORKED :O I literally hacked my ig account details within roughly 40 mins of using the site.
I had to pay 15$ but definitely worth the price :O
Thanks so much, you really help me out !
@Keith Cayden Glad I could help :D
Never posted before, but there's a first time for everything. Your skillset is just utterly, utterly mindblowing. I really can't even start to comprehend the knowledge and experience you have, just mesmerizing. Please never stop, keep doing (just) bikes. The editing is perfect! What a true gem this channel is.
Thank you for leaving such a nice comment :) Im glad you enjoy the content and hope you will join me for the next project? ;)
Love the attention to detail: coating the inside of the swingarm to stop it from corroding in the future. Small things like this, really put the build on a higher level. Awesome work!
Thank you :)
As a Ducati fan I must say it: I think I’m in love with you!
Jokes apart, keep going and many thanks for sharing!
Haha your too kind, thanks for watching :)
I rode a monster 600 when i was 25. This was the better bike i had. Enough power and an amazing frame.
Speak for yourself ,- I want to marry him and spoil his tool(s) ....
and then bring my Honda for free Sevice ;-)
Nice to see an old bike getting some love, still remember the first Ducati I ever saw going down Union Street in Aberdeen late eighties.
Love the way your work bench is always clean and parts are all laid out and organised. I hate a messy shop!
I watch a lot of videos like this. You are the first person I’ve seen who applies a proper amount of thread locker to the bolts. Cheers.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment :)
therapeutic to just watch an artist at work. Lovely job sir.
Can't wait to see the inside of that engine and how the Desmo valves work.
Glad to have you along for the ride :)
Don’t they work like an F1 engine with no valve spring and air pressure like the fiat multi air?
@@Bama_Law Uses mechanical lever to close valve rather than a spring. Effectively one rocker to open and one to close.
Wow
Haha, you got me with the sprocket joke! I was like WTF? 😂😅
Yeah..got me too..like whaaaaaaaaaaaaat
Haha im glad you enjoyed the joke :)
Wasn't gonna put it past him since he put the old tyres back on...
I suspect that was more. To have a rolling chassis for certain jobs than actually when it's being ridden post restoration tbh. Means that you don't ruin a new set of tyres when doing some of the ballache stuff brakes, setting up suspension and chain tension, testing your fork dive etc etc, when your pulling stuff on and off constantly. New tyres saved for the last job makes sense. At least.... I hope based on the work put in.
Shid me too lol 😂😂😂
Enjoyed that from start to finish, genuinely didn’t realise how much goes into the wheels. Very much looking forward to the next.
Just found it and spent a happy half an hour watching. I’m quite amazed about how much of that chassis was just in need of a clean up and restoration without needing any repair. Looking forward to the next episode now, cheers.
Thank you, Im glad you enjoyed the video :) Yeah the frame is completely sound under all that rust and old paint i was as shocked as yourself.
Best motorcycle restoration channel ever by far. Thanks for the content, i think i have seen all your videos and i am looking forward to seeing much more.
I love how carefully you disassembled and reassembled the parts. There is no excellent service like yours where I am staying and that is really sad as I am currently restoring my motorcycle. So I'm learning a lot from your video.
It's a joy watching, no stone is left unturned on the journey to a bike better than from the factory 👏👏👏
You honestly had me with the old sprocket... I literally said “Now why would he go through all that work just to..... ohhh...” out loud 😂
Said the same thing about those crusty old tires.
You forgot rubber bearing protector. Thanks for sharing! Keep going!
Correct, Nicely spotted :)
@@RRCRestoration I'm ready for the next puzzle
You forgot about fitting the plastic bearing protector mate. Yep, we've all done it from time to time. He who makes no mistakes, barely makes anything. 😃
Nice to see you again and nicely spotted ;) couldn't believe i had made that mistake :(
As always impressive work. Top man. Really love your approach and voice over.
Forgot the lower bearing cap myself once too... the whole bike put back together, finding ONE ^%$^%$ sealed bag left in the box... ah. it happens to the best of us.... (which for sure I am not hahaha).
Keep it up. Looking fwd to the next episode. Greetings, Ruud
Hi Ruud, Im so glad you enjoy my videos :) Haha yeah its a nightmare just buttoning up the front end then seeing the dust cap sitting there mocking you haha.
I always used to grease the rear spindle until I started racing. Something like mr sheen gives it enough 'lube' to slide it in or out and it doesn't pick loads of shit up when you put it down. Suppose it doesn't really matter if you're not changing the wheel that often but just a tip I picked up. Love the work by the way 👍
Nice tip, Thanks very much :)
i really enjoy the precision and how you think thru all the steps ahead (like the wax coating) .. great craftsmanship
Thank you im glad you enjoy my videos :)
Such a relaxing Saturday morning activity. Sitting back with my cup of coffee totally engrossed in this episode
Suggestion: leave your written narrative on the screen longer. Some are tough to read. Thanks.
Yeah i apologize for that, I dont know what happened i thought they were longer than they actually are :(
Pause. How hard can it be? ;)
Also it looks a bit spoilt schoolgirl that you like compliments and not suggestions
@@barirwin8559 To whom do you refer to?
This is amazing! I've got one of these in boxes & I never took it apart, so this is going to be my best friend till it's back on the road... Many thanks for the video💚🇬🇧🌱
Really enjoying this. Too many "full restoration" videos on TH-cam are just a half arsed clean up job. You pay attention to all the extra details (replating screws, forgetting lower yoke bearings seals...😉) that make the end results so much better. Wish I had your workshop too! 👍
Thank you for your kind comment, I know the type of " restoration" videos you mean ;) haha
Awesome work so far. Can't wait to watch the rest.
Owner of 1992 900ss here that needs to get it back on the road.
Wow, that was a thorough process yet every minute was worth the watch.
Thank you im glad you enjoyed the process :)
Well done, you are the first person I ve watched the shows you tightening the bolts with another wrench getting it close than finishing with your torque wrench.
Oh my God!! Best video of 2023..
I hate seeing a perfectly good Ducati be neglected. These were really nice bikes.👍🏻
I cheated and watched the Grande Finale first, absolutely nailed this resto btw, but that proved to me I needed to see more, and now I've had to subscribe, can't wait to see the rest 👊👍
Thank you for subscribing it means a lot and i hope you enjoy the rest of the Ducati videos :)
I almost jumped out of my chair when i saw you put that old sprocket back on the restored wheel hahaha
Brilliant. Fantastic restoration, better than factory for sure. Looking forward to the next vid. Thumbs up.
great work so far, nice to see some Bilt Hamber getting used, very underrated products IMO... 👍🏻
Thank you :) I wouldn't go past Bilt Hamber top quality products. With the amount of DEOX C i get through i should really try and get a sponsorship from them haha!
Masterful mate ! You're spot on, great craftmanship, cool bike !
Don't worry about video lengh, I'll watch all the episodes about the Ducati resto (: Keep'em coming.
Cheers from France.
Hi, Thanks you for watching and im glad you enjoyed it : )
Ansioso para ver o motor. É um belo trabalho que você faz. Congratulações do Brasil.
Hi, I've been watching your channel for a while now but this Ducati restoration series is the point where I finally decided that I should subscribe. You are doing a wonderful work here. Thank you for the videos.
Hi, Thank you for subscribing it means a lot :)
You were doing a brilliant job, right up to the precision hammer work on the new bearings, then I had to switch off.
The before and after shots said it all. Keep up the good work👍🏼
I really like that you explain the parts on the wheel&stuff! Also having fun with putting the captions on english and see what they " translate" ... lmao (just try it and stop on 3.04 ff &3.35😂😅😂)
Really enjoyed the restoration thanks for taking the time to share you have a blessed day
Thank you :)
Sunday morning, what a nice video to start your day...!
Thank you im glad it was a good start to your day :)
Looking forward to the next one. Impressed with how tidy your work shop is. As a Christmas treat show us the untidy corner.
Nice to see you again, Haha yeah we all have that untidy corner where everything just gets flung haha
i am so excited to see this finished
Same. I'm thinking leave it alone til the resto's finished and then binge watch. But can't, have to see what's happening! Thought at first that the channel was American or European based on quality of production, graphics etc. But then you hear that lovely Scottish burr. Respect from England.
Me too :) Thanks for leaving a comment.
What a transformation! You are very skilled!
I am on my second ducati, first a 900ss now a S2r 800, looking forward to the final reveal, thanks.
Nice, you'll be the man to let me know if im doing a good job on the ss then ;)
New Years Eve & this is more fun than the TV & cheaper than going out.......I knew I should have kept my 750SS.
You certainly are very professional! Splendid work good sir!
Thank you very much :)
You make your builds so enjoyable I like your work
British weather is a crime against nice bikes, grew up in Scotland but Texas makes your bikes and trucks last forever, been driving the same pickup twenty years now and my ‘04 Multistrada is a pretty happy camper 😊
Haha yeah your right there Scotland really isnt the climate for nice bikes but oh well we have to make the most of what we have.
Loving how deep you are going into details! The finish of those screws is amazing! :-)
Thank you, Im glad you enjoyed the video :)
Interesting arrangement on the cushes. I've only worked on Japanese wheels with the loose rubbers. Looking forward to part three!
Yeah the loose cush rubbers are a joy to work with compared to these ones they are an absolute pig of a thing to remove even with the correct pullers! Glad to have you along for the ride ;)
Ah the next installment. Keep em coming brother, great stuff.
Thank you :)
Good Job! I've only seen one other rebuilder/restorer use that cavity wax...and he does great work too!
GrandsonofKong, is the other builder you are referring to Vehcor?
@@Jammer3333 Yes indeed!
I used copious amounts of Waxoyl to try and slow the rate at which my Citroen 2CV was rusting away. I must have overdone it as the next hot day there was yellow goo running down the inside of the car, very messy! The 2CV still rusted sway.😭
Another awesome series. All three that you've restored are bikes that I love. Great minds think alike.
Thank you, im glad you enjoy these restorations :)
You forgot the dust seal under the tapered steering head bearings. Should have worked the bearing with a handfull of grease as well. Pack those rollers full.
Amazing job! Great video. So glad it doesn’t have teenie hip hop music overlaid as well. Proper job.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)
Amazing work, cant wait to see the work on the engineer next. Thanks for showing us!
Wow ... making some serious moves there mate. Unbelievable 😎
It would be great if you were to do a video on the proccess of plating the parts 16:33 and give an explaination of what chemicals you're using and the effect it has
Hello! I was happy as a kid when I got to part 2! I look forward to the next episodes with this Ducati! With love from Romania, Bucharest!
Thank you, I hope you enjoy the rest of the series :)
What a pleasure to watch. Satisfying sand blasting !
Thanks for this video !
Thank you for watching :)
Great video! I'll be watching the series for sure!
I'd really like to see more of the painting and plating side of things
Maybe you could give us a tutorial/walkthrough
Thanks and Keep up the good work 👍
Hi, Thanks for leaving a comment, I actually have a plating tutorial planned i just have to find the time to film it. Im more than happy to do a painting tutorial aswell as i am a professionally trained painter and would be happy to pass on a few tips and tricks of the trade ;)
That would be great if you could! And Im sure a lot of other viewers would agree with me!
I've tried spraying with cans but found the paint to be very delicate, so delicate that the swing arm paint stuck to my paddock stand and peeled off!
But it was halfords acrylic spray paint,, anyways ill be waiting for the next vid
Thanks
Mark
@@markcottrell3356 I AGREE 🙌🙋♂️ I AGREE 🙌🙋♂️😁😀
@@RRCRestoration Dude both those videos would be awesome, especially if the plating one related to this series, I know that may not be possible and is a bit selfish because I have a 93 900SS. But I'm really interested to know why you plated some parts instead of painting them, and how to tell when/if something Needs plating instead of painting relating to the Ducati, except for nuts and bolts they are fairly self explanatory lol. Actually maybe not, the small black hex dome head bolts, did/can you plate them or where they new?
Anyway great series so far, and sorry for taking over your comment thread Mark 🙄😁👍👊
These motorcycle restoration videos are amazing. Subbed.
Damn....I thought I did a good job with some break cleaner and a garden hose.....well done sir.
Looking good man!
The engine's going to be interesting....I've been inside a few gixxer engines, but never had the pleasure to the inside of ducati.
Thanks for uploading!
Your job is amazing.
I can't wait till bike is test on the road.
Btw, damn all those equipment.
You have all the tools, envy. :(
Peace from 🇮🇩
Thank you very much for leaving a comment, Im glad you enjoy it :)
So glad I stumbled onto this series, amazing work 👍
Thank you :)
Really enjoyed that, I just wish I had a workshop as clean and tidy as you!
Thank you im glad you enjoyed it :) Haha its only that room thats clean the rest of the workshop is in a terrible mess, i film in my spray room because of the good lighting.
Another brilliant episode leaves us on a cliff hanger for the next one.
glad you enjoyed it :)
I was always taught growing up when packing bearings with grease like those triple tree bearings that you get a palm full of grease and you grab the bearing with your other hand and scrape it against your palm which forces grease into the bearings. They make a tool now adays that have two cones that you screw together sandwiching the bearing in the center and then you pump grease with a grease gun into the device via a grease zerk located in the center of it. It forces grease into the middle of the sandwich and out through the bearing.
Thanks for the tip on the tool i'll need to look into that ;)
@@RRCRestoration anytime!
I am from indonesia ..
I waiting you to upload along ago..
Finally you upload eps2 ,thanks 😁
Ok, you got me... I started freaking that you were using the old rear sprocket... Touche'
I know your a happy man to have your dream bike now, good luck on the rest of the build
Thank you for your kind comment .
As a bike restorer, well parts fitter really, it would be good to have seen a fuller explanation of the plating process you undertake to get the colours that you did on the re finished parts. I ask as its my next step of development in restoring a bikes parts. I do enjoy your videos so keep them coming with bikes.
Fantastic and thank you for sharing. Im looking forward to the next video 👍
Thank you EP3 coming soon ;)
👏👏👏👏great project, great work, is the best of TH-cam, congratulations, ... I look forward to the next video ...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Nice to see you again, Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Great stuff lad, just for a moment I got fooled by the sprocket
This video it's the best that I 've seen in this year, thanks you definitely do a perfect job, cheers from Argentina.
Thank you for your kind comment :)

Just keep going with the restoration. Greetings from Brazil!
Beautiful work, I love how you mixed that shade of bronze/silver for the frame/wheels
Thank you :)
super helpful series as I've just picked up one of these for an amazing good price & can't wait to get started on her;)
great work and here's your little algorithm bump
Can't wait to see the engine restoration. For engine restoration, please make a long video. 🙏🙏🙏 ( a big fans from indonesia )
HI, Oh im sure with all the parts involved its going to be a fair length of video ;)
Lovely job good Scottish engineering a lot better to work on than my old British bikes
Thoroughly enjoying your bike vids keep up the great work
Thank you, Im glad you enjoy them :)
Looking great and this is spurring me on to finish my own 600ss
Thank you, I hope you have fun doing your project :)
Hello! Amazing work! I like to look this kind of work but myself I am not able do do this! Congratulations for this wonderful DUCATI! I drive myself a DUCATI GT Sport classic 1000 from 2006.
Put the bearings in the freezer, they will get softer. Very good work. Cagiva bought Ducati in 1985, but kept the Ducati name, that's why the elephant logo on the tires and the engine is
Yay, you've been missed, sad to learn you've been sick, hope you'll get better soon mate. Great job as usual, and I'm really looking forward to see the engine rebuild! 😊👍👍👍

Always a pleasure to see you popping up in the comment section, Thanks for your comment im all better now and hard at work on the next episode : )
Crazy or not...your work is magnificent...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Wow! Excellent as usual! Looking fwd to the next....and the next...!

cant believe it....i made the same mistake once...dust cap! awesome video boss
Haha im so glad im not the only one who's made that mistake, glad you enjoy the videos :)
very inspirational. i need to get better at all this.
Thanks for doing this , so relaxing to watch and listen to
Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed it :)
Can’t wait to see the finished product... awesome
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment :)
Much epicness as ever sir. I need to find some new superlatives as I am running out!
Let's concentrate on the super shinyness of everything and not mention the bottom headset bearing cap/washer shall we? lol It is actually nice to know that even engineering gods like yourself are not infallible.
Superb job as ever and thanks for the experience once again.
Always a pleasure to see you in the comment section :) Thank you so much for your kind comment oh and nicely spotted on the dust seal issue ;)
Absolutely amazing watching you work and go the full mile! Is there a guide of sorts what you use to recondition the fasteners/axles and stuff(like what is in the different bucket etc)? They look so nice and im really keen to give it a shot, but im kinda lost where to begin.
It is the "doh" and slap to the forehead moment that gives us headaches! Lol Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching :)
