A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is severely reduced or blocked. Like all other tissues in our body heart muscles also need oxygen rich blood to function properly. Now the arteries wrapping around the heart is called coronary arteries which supply the oxygen rich blood to the heart.
Coronary artery disease is the main cause of heart attack. The blockage of arteries is usually due to a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances. The fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits are called plaques. The process of plaque buildup is called atherosclerosis.
Sometimes, a plaque can rupture and form a clot that blocks blood flow. A lack of blood flow, typically caused by a blockage in coronary artery, can damage or destroy part of the heart muscle. When a part of your heart can’t pump because it’s dying from lack of blood flow, it can disrupt the pumping sequence for your entire heart. That reduces or even stops blood flow to the rest of your body, which can be deadly if not addressed in time
A heart attack is also called a myocardial infarction.
A less common cause is a severe spasm, or sudden contraction, of a coronary artery that can stop blood flow to the heart muscle.
Signs and symptoms of heart attack:
Chest pain was thought to be a universal symptom of heart attacks for a long time, but in reality, the symptoms vary based on several factors, including gender, age, and health profile.
A lot of heart damage happens in the first 2 hours following a heart attack.
Most common symptom is mild pain or discomfort in your chest that may come and go, which is also called “stuttering” chest pain. Sometimes it feels like an elephant is sitting on your chest.
You may experience upper body pain or discomfort, including arms, left shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
Your heart may beat faster or irregular
You may have stomach discomfort that feels like indigestion
Shortness of breath, which may leave you feeling like you can’t get enough air, even when you’re resting
You may also experience unexplained sweating
Heart attack symptoms in Women:
Chest pain
unusual fatigue lasting for several days or sudden severe fatigue
sleep disturbances
anxiety
lightheadedness
shortness of breath
indigestion or gas-like pain
upper back, shoulder, or throat pain
jaw pain or pain that spreads up to your jaw
Now one of the most important concern is how to know if it is heart burn or heart attack as both can have similar symptoms.
Well, there are some key differences which will help you to differentiate them
Location of pain: In heart attack, the pain is usually felt in the center or left side of the chest, and may spread to other areas like the arms, jaw, neck, back, or stomach. In heartburn, the pain is usually felt in the upper abdomen, and may radiate to the chest or throat.
Nature of pain: In heart attack, the pain is often described as a tightness, pressure, squeezing, or heaviness in the chest, and may be accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, vomiting, or lightheadedness. In heartburn, the pain is usually a burning or gnawing sensation that is worsened by eating, lying down, or bending over.
Duration of symptoms: In heart attack, the pain typically lasts for more than a few minutes, and may come and go or persist continuously. It may not go away with rest or antacid medications
In heartburn, the pain usually lasts for a few minutes to several hours, and can be relieved by taking antacids or changing positions.

My grandpa had a Heart attack before. Thank god I was staying at his house (since he lives alone). If I haven't came over, he might've passed due to that. He also had many strokes as well. But he's alive and doing just fine with chest pain every now and then
Its also different with diabetic patients. And some people may experience lower back pain. My dad did not experience any of the symptoms mentioned in the video. So naturally i didnt suspect. But he had severe lower back pain.

My pain shows up when I wake up from sleeping. Its a aching type pain that is settled and then goes away after 30 mins to an hr. Its not consistent but the days it does happen scare me to wonder...?

Could be Hypothyroidism; go to urgent care and get some blood test to make sure you don’t have any heart problems or thyroid dysfunction

I'm having some tightness in my chest right now actually. I was literally about to fall asleep until that pain started. I couldn't lay back down since the pain be a little worse so I'm sat up in my bed now, kind of freaking out a little. No where else on my body is hurting,I'm not sweating or anything,I don't feel like I have indigestion, or anything like that. I just only have this tightness pain that's at my upper chest area but nothing on the left or right, just right in the middle of my chest. Every time I try to take a huge inhale, the tightness happens, when I'm trying to slow down and be calm,it tightens but not as bad. But everytime I distract myself with videos or anything there isn't any tightness happening anymore. The only time it does is basically when my brain/mind is distracted by something. But if I walk around,do anything physically,the tightness in my chest just goes off. I honestly don't know what this could be but I am a bit scared, I'm in my late 20s and I've never had anything happen to me like this before. I can't tell if it's a heart attack or heart burn. It's pretty much just keeping me awake from going to bed. Any idea???
I have no experience but u might have a rib cage inflammation and due to ur age and seems like ur really active, heart attack is unlikely. still if it persists then go to a doctor. btw this pain from the inflammation that I also had today went away after 10 min

I’m 28 and I’ve develop these chest pain just last yr, I started my dream job of working at the airline and now I cannot. Because these chest pains happens out of nowhere and I get bad panicked attacks, And I have fear of going to the hospital. Last time I did they called in a chaplain because my heart was beating irregularly and it made me soooo scared my heart beat went off the roof lol they had to send him out because I was freaking out. To find out I have costochrondritis and it’s not serious they say but it feels like a heart attack. And I’m going on a yr with the same pain, anyone has any tip to help me id appreciated it

It might be acid reflux or an ulcer sore in your esophagus!! I literally been having the same issues plus chest pain that comes goes. I think it's just acid/anxiety related 🤔🤔 I might go to the ER just in case

I had a giant slice of cheesecake for desert. Went to bed then woke up in the middle of the night like my heart was being squeezed. It was painful like it was obviously not good. Other symptoms was my stomach constantly girgling througout that time. Alot of small burps. I had relief with each burp. No burning sensation though. Thats the strangest part for me was the no burning. I usually have obvious burning with my acid reflux. So im not sure what to think. This happened 2 nights ago and almost back to normal. Depending on the postion i lay down it might want to start up again with the squeezing sensation. I took a strong dose of my pantoprazole and the squeezing went down significantly after 30 minutes of taking it. Anyone else experience squeezing oain in chest for acid reflux?

@@kyshaaxxx I'm back to normal. That achy chest squeeze feeling went away fully after 4 days. And I was taking my pantoprazole 2 times a day to help. I had surgery about 5 days later and surgen didn't notice anything strange with my heart so I am okay!

Guys, i think I've got a heartburn problem! I get all the symptoms of heartburn but if i lie fown horizontally the pain goes away within 10-15 minutes! Sometimes the gas just comes out of my mouth in way of vomitting(not burping).

Im 27 as well and have had steady chest pains for 3 yeara they come and go its off to the left side of my chest and can come on suddenly and feel like im being stabbed i am vary active and i eat everything from fast food to health food daily if i eat sowmthing not good for me i normaly try and eat somwthing latwr that is to balance it out i dont feel this is heart burn do to no anti acids help qhen it happens and soms times the pain can last all day i also get dull pains in the same spot

Yes, it can be Costochondritis! Nothing of serious, but im 21 and i have it... i have a lot of anxiety by the way. But it started to give me "small pain" like 2/10 , on my sternum bone and for precaution i went to hospital and my heart is 100% ok.

I am going to the doctor for a CT scan of the heart. I also did the ECG test thing and everything comes back OK but I still have chest pain. Go to a cardiologist and get a heart scan to check all your arteries for any blockage or anything.
