I’ve been following drum corps since the eighties. Each year kids from all over the world go to audition for one of the corps in the US and play during one season. You age out when you are 22. These kids march on coordinates. The competition is from may to august when the finals are. Me as a Dutchie has been to the championships in 2001. It was a blast.
I marched in The Cavaliers which is a competitor of Carolina Crown and along with Crown are 2 of the strongest corps in the World. The show that you just watched actually placed 5th if that tells you how much I can blow your mind. Now that I know that you enjoyed a Drum Corp show, I will send a few of the shows that either won the World Championship or in the case of the next Carolina Crown 2015 show lost by .1 out of a perfect score of 100 but is one of most fans favorite shows of all time. The other one I will send you is phantom regiment 2008 as they won the world championship with a show called Spartacus which is beyond amazing. A little background on Drum Corp… World class chords in 164 individuals divided into three sections which is brass percussion and colorguard. Tryouts are typically in November and you must be between ages 14 and 21. It is a three month tour during the summer and you move in the middle of May and begin learning the show which takes about two weeks of course it’s just the first version. First week of June, I’ll Kors hit the road on commercial buses and travel across the country having shows every night sometimes at small locations other times at large power regionals such as San Antonio Atlanta and Allentown PA. A typical day and drum corps Starts around seven when you are woken up from your sleeping spot Which is typically the floor of a high school gymnasium that has agreed to let the core use their facilities for the day. Then If it’s on a show day you rehearse for about 14 hours with a lunch and dinner Milton so you’re rehearsing Approximately 12 hours a day. If there is no show that night you then hop on your buses and head to the next location where you typically arrive in the middle of the night around two or 2:30 AM and I lead to their gymnasium at the high school where you left your sleeping bag get how much sleep you can and then do it all over again the next day. The only difference is on the show days you practice until around three or 4 PM have dinner and then it’s off to the show which is sometimes at the very high school that you’re staying at or you may be heading to one of the larger arenas such as the one in the videos that you are seeing which is in Indianapolis my hometown and the location for DCI international’s home office. The activity as you can see Is she my physical and known as the sport of the arts is it has both athletic and has the artistry that is all put together by amazing groups of instructors. It is one of those situation’s that unless you are interested in it, get dragged to your first show things you will hate it but then Ashley love it or are you having a run across the show in your local town, most others have no idea that this incredible activity exists. Season culminates every year the second week of August at the world championships in Indianapolis Indiana. Corps usually arrive in the state on Wednesday and then there is quarterfinals on Thursday yeah where they couldn’t to 21 the semi finals on Friday where they could’ve 12 and finals on Saturday. They placed 4th that year. Other recommended corps to check out are Santa Clara Vanguard, The Cavaliers, The Bluecoats, Blue Devils, etc. just to name a few of the incredible over-24 drum corps!!
Wondering how shocked he was when he found out this was a 5th place show. Regardless...it is still one of my favorite Crown shows.

Not many people realize just how difficult it is to pull this stuff off. And marching/Jazz running in lines, especially in close quarters, is very nerve racking. But that’s testament to the skill of these folks.
And that is DEFINITELY more that 100 people. My high school Marching Band was 80+ and was still only half the size of Crown.

We used to make the joke that nobody could figure out why there was a football team using our field to play a dumb game on.
IMO the robot themed 2006 Cavaliers "Machine" had the highest level of precision as well as the hardest move ever at about 10:30.

I will tell you these marching members know how to utilize their air better than professional athletes. I know it sounds silly, but you learn how to breathe properly especially when playing a wind instrument. There can be no tension or impediment of the breathe.
