  • A girl was completely submerged underwater for 66 minutes. However, she survived. And despite not having a pulse or signs of breathing, her brain remained intact. Was it a miracle or was it science?
Today, we're looking into the cases of 3 people who survived against all odds.

Little correction here, Brew: Hypo- and Hyperthermia are not when the body's temperature is below or above homeostatic temperatures. The conditions are correctly defined as a core temperature that is either significantly higher, or lower, than the body's Temperature Set Point. A fever is not hyperthermia, since it is the body's set point being moved to a higher temperature in response to stress. The human body's set point can vary safely anywhere between 6 and 10 degrees up or down depending on current conditions set by the hypothalamus, however when the body's temperature changes independantly of the set point, that is where the definitions of Hypothermia or Hyperthermia come into play.

There’s another story of a woman who was completely frozen for hours, found outside in a blizzard. Her story is pretty fascinating too and I don’t think they amputated. There’s also another woman who survived being blasted by a shot gun in her chest, pretty much putting holes all in her lung/s and she walked for miles to a hospital. That’s a badass woman.

Again, if he doesn't know the Celsius measurement then what? Oh wait, you'd have to do some work like the rest of us who only know Fahrenheit and use a calculator which converts the two. You probably have a cell phone and a laptop right? Use the laptop to watch the videos and the cell phone to use an app to convert the two. Why do you think you don't hear Americans bitching about "can you please include standard or Fahrenheit in your videos? Because we're intelligent enough not to need to be spoon fed and know how to find a calculator and not be lazy about it.

And nobody even mentioned Anna Bagenholm, the Norwegian skier who fell through an icy lake. Not only was she temporarily dead as well, her body temperature was 56 degrees - the second lowest anybody had ever survived. I usually hear about her a lot - don’t know why she wasn’t mentioned. And that little girl did NOT fall through an icy lake, she went under in a very cold not even frozen creek - she was snagged on a rock in the bottom. But the rest of the story was true - so yeah.

I was diagnosed clinically dead twice once for 3 hours and the second time for 50 minutes. The ambulance staff confirmed each time that I was dead (no heartbeat, stopped breathing) by the time they got there. I don't really remember the first time, I just remember vivid out of person experience as I saw myself collapse like a stiff board when I looked behind me. I sat next to my body in the ambulance and heard and saw everything but from an outer perspective until they got me into the ICU and suddenly I felt like something yanked my legs hard and fast and the next thing I remember is waking up in my own body in the next room after the brave surgeons finished. Turned out I had a perforated appendix in the late critical stage and they got me in narrowly in the last hour possible.
The second time the same happened but I could feel it beforehand but still fell as a bag of potatoes. I didn't experience outer body experience but my consciousness was thrown into another misty, muddy world and as decades passed in there I found a way to come back and when I stepped in a door in a specific hotel I was just 50 minutes from where the second whole thing started, I was in my body but I couldn't move, my skin was the whitest white I ever saw and it was cold, I stayed there like this for about 5 minutes and then the ambulance staff came (they couldn't get there sooner because they got delayed), they said they still want to check on me if I'm saveable even though it was well over the 4 minute threshold for emergencies. One of the staff came over to me to check my pulse, breathing and pupils to confirm the date of death and while he's doing it he's talking about it to his colleagues and that's when I was finally able to slowly roll over, get on my knees, stand up and wobble towards the bottle of water on a nearby desk to everyone's surprise in the room. They offered to still bring me to the hospital for a checkup just in case but this time they didn't find anything what caused it and what changed that I woke up on my own after 50 minutes of no heartbeat and no breathing (first checked by the school nurse and then the PE teacher, then the ambulance medic).

But some people’s heart also stops beating...that doesn’t mean ur dead yet- not every BODY follows the same- one minute no pulse and your dead rule. There have been several exceptions to this. You missed an important point. In a lot of early thaw attempts that looked promising, the person suddenly the dies. What was eventually discovered is that the low metabolism during the "frozen" stage results in a peripheral acidosis, that once circulation is re-established can overload the body and stop the heart due to the pH imbalance. So another standard component of re-warming systems is intravenous buffer administration.

Can I just say how ironic it is that our body feels COLD and at a dangerous level at NINETY-FIVE DEGREES. I just can’t get over how funny that is since if it was 95 degrees outside that would be seen as hot.😅

The reason why you simply can’t freeze yourself to be preserved for the future is because when water freezes it turns to crystals. You can imagine how having 60% of your body’s makeup turning into sharp little crystals isn’t good for your health.

most of the time, the true people who have been record-holding in something amazing, usually aren't the ones we know, there are people out there who have most likely been dead frozen for much much longer than released to the public, also the true strongest, smartest, fastest, etc. people in the world are usually the ones that the public doesn't know about, my cousin knows a guy who was dead for an entire night frozen, and somehow doctors were able to bring them back and they almost didn't lose any limbs, maybe just a finger or two, idk how true that is, but if it is true then I wonder what OTHER things people have survived

There are people who are able to spend a short amount of time (15 minutes) going swimming in frozen lakes by cutting out the ice. But for 66 minutes that is very long time in the cold water.

In some cases, when regural passive warming isn't enought butbairway rewarming isn't needed, alcohol is used. Yes it is mostly myth that alcohol KEEPS you warm but it will speed up warming you as it changes the way your blood flows, thus not only making you feel warm, but actually helping to warm some of your organs.

I know if you unfreeze someone frozen for a long period of time he is dead, most probably their blood veins will explode. If the heart stops it can't be revived specially if it was frozen. And the brain and many other things can't be revived. And about the blood veins blust, it is because blood isn't like water, it can't go back to liquid, it will freeze and burst. That is what I heard. But theoretically we don't know. But I know that's why we can't freeze people to preserve them for the future.
