Awesome stuff Kirk...reminds me of my old gig back in the day.....Yes I was a Hoddie...never made it up on the wall....2 sacks portland, fourty shovels of medium sand and half a sack of lime for 1st and 2nds...1 sack white portland, full sack lime and twenty shovels of fine sand and box of pigment for finish coats...that was my life for many Summers...and yes I could run a wheel barrel up a 2" x 12" and straddle a wheel barrel to throw mud up a story with my shovel...I went to bed every night hearing two Wallies yelling..."Mud...Mud...Mud"...cuz they were pros and fast as lightning, just like you brother....lol...!

Hello Kirk, Mr Master Plaster. I got a question for you. I have a 15x15 stucco wall where some smart person put roofing tar on it and painted on top of it. Well now the wall has developed lots of alligator cracks all over the wall and leaking inside. Oh great master of plaster what do you recommend I do to fix the wall? The tar is on there really good and the stucco wall that the tar was applied too is very sturdy. Thank you so much! 😊

Hey there, thanks for responding. The tar is on the stucco wall itself. I tried to scrape it off but it’s impossible lol. The Florida sun has baked it on good. Also the tar itself has been coated multiple times with paint. What makes it even worse is that design of the stucco wall is a very bumpy non smooth old Spanish style making it difficult to patch or remove all the cracks. The reason I need to fix this wall is that it’s leaking into the wall cracks down into an attached lower porch/balcony roof ceiling. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
Depot sells accelerators in little bags that you just toss into one bag of mix.

Hey guys! Local box stores do not stock stucco mix. Can I use type s mix?
Sure you can.Type S contains 2 parts portland cement, 1 part hydrated lime and 9 parts sand. If you buy it ready to go, you just add water.🕵🏼

Evening Kirk, could I ask for a favour please, if you manage to get a 20 X 5 short shank trowel that you use please could I buy it of you, Bon Tools just sold me one unfortunately it's a long shank, look different from their photo they was showing.
I've just spent over £100 to find out it's not the actual trowel that Bon Tools, that they have a photo on, my face dropped, why use a photo of the a different trowel, I've spent years trying to get one, I just give up, how much more money do I have to spend.
Instead of having a smile on my face I just have disappointment, I'm not after three or four trowels, just the one

Why didn't you finish masking off that door
We didn't mask it to begin with, as it wasn't necessary. The wood was to be painted plus we cleaned the stucco off anyway.
Kirk, know to well about 100+ heat here in Texas. Sometimes can't watch your work because I relate too well... carpentry, painting, wiring, plumbing. But man, that plastering work looks boat loads harder and hotter. Love the channel. Keep on keeping on!

And you do 3 coats?
We did the first two, the owner is going to apply the third coat. But three coats are not necessary unless one wants a color coat maintenance free color finish. One can paint a two coat stucco system.🕵🏼

I’ve noticed sackrete can be inconsistent at times…I know this by the color after it’s set up…Even measuring the water it’s dark or light after it cures..
MHowdy agin Dan. I find most stucco a bit inconstant. We apply the soupy stuff or the stucco that's already starting to set as a rule. Eventually, if it's really set, it's got to be remixed. Our arms have only so much strength; we can't burn them out in the first hour. Cheers.
We used to use a large trowel hawk combo we called it a gold devil... I don't know where it got that name but. This singer used to work for me. You may have heard of him his name is Liberace... And he helped us design a trowel... If you take a look at liberace's profile of his head.... Or the front view of his face the shape of his face... It's kind of a scaled-down proportional shape of that large trowel that I'm talkin about isn't that funny the way people design things they have names for everything right... Liberace used to think that it was more of a hawk than a trowel.... They were not the easiest thing to use and some of the Union's got really angry with Liberace and told him to go back to singing.
LOL, I love using go-devils but my brother Lu don''t, we call them cheaters the union boys called them liberrachies for reason to goofy to mention here.🧌

I am going to embark on a project that requires removing a window and the plywood that was surrounding the window (I think there was a larger window at one point but previous owner removed it and put a smaller one in) but instead of re-stuccoing the wall, they used plywood to cover the patch and now its beginning to rot. I have seen other videos from the channel that you remove a few inches from the existing stucco to put in the paper and wire lath and that is to help tie the new stucco patch with the existing to make it a better waterproof seal, correct?
What can I do if I cannot remove the few inches to slide the paper under the existing for some reason that may or may not happen? My house was built in 1920 so I'm hoping for the best but would like to plan to make sure I can handle the worst by asking questions before I start.
I will be looking through your video library to see if you did a video on a question I asked but asked anyway. I never did this so if there are others in the comments that have, please feel free to let me know some tips and tricks. I wasnt going to put a window in, but decided to replace the window with a better one. I think the window might be recessed into the wall. Related question - do I stucco to the window and put trim on the stucco or leave room to screw trim into the plywood before stuccoing?
These videos are enough to get me an idea of where to go. I think I'm looking for that dose of confidence from those who've done this before that its not a big deal if I take my time and use the correct supplies for the job.

Howdy, it's alway best to cover the existing paper with new paper, but if that's not possible as the paper and or wood is deteriorated or disintegrated, do the best you can with what you have to work with.🕵🏼

Hi. love your work and watch almost all your videos and learn a lot from you. So just one thing. You put the mice too close to your mouth and the sound becomes distorted. So just push the mike a little away or turn down the recording level so the levels will not turn red if it is possible on the camera and the sound will come klin as a wisell.
