Folks, we are located in Oakland, Ca.
Howdy Folks, all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

    Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.
Jason and I are frequently asked, can I repair my stucco imperfections with new stucco, or do I have only one option of repainting?
Hence, instead of calling a painting contractor, call a plastering company and ask for a new stucco finish. What are the benefits of spreading a stucco finish coat color?
They are fifty to seventy times thicker than paint. Thus hides bad textures.

    • Transform any home wit... New stucco coat over a blocked chimney.
    • Stucco color finishing... Spread Integrated stucco color finish.

Good evening Randy; this home was painted and had many flaws; we did indeed stucco over the painted surface. This video shows you the prep work, which included pressure washing and applying a bonding agent directly to the house walls, never in the stucco mix. Cheers. 👨🏻‍🔬

    2 QUESTIONS:
Q1. What about stucco over painted HardyBoard? Go ahead with this method?
I mistakenly used 100% silicon caulking in some small isolated spots and the paint will not stick to it.
The spots are so small that I think stucco should bridge the spots easily but want to confirm if this is correct thinking.
To remove the silicon is a major job and might evan cause damage to the Hardy boards.
Q2. Should I go with base coat first as covering the laps will mean some places are 1/4+" thick before the added finish thickness.
    ---
Best wishes to you and all yours.

Kirt; Question, off topic and region, but in Omaha, NE., not CA. We have EIFS on our house built in 80, but the exterior finish was installed 14 years ago. Now dead brush, trees and grass fires by dry lighting in the West has woodpeckers migrating East. For the first time, holes from dime to 3.5" are pecked into finish. A company called "Ultra Kote" from AZ., pulled out due to low sales. I have magnesium trowel but taped around the holes 2", cut smooth with hacksaw blade in adjustable handle, I will even the spray foam to 1/4" but was interested in "Bonding Agent". I have the finish (Correct aggregate & color) to apply and reproduce the finish. I am not worried in slight color difference and will brush edges to blend. How important is the bonding agent and are other brands / types used with good results or needed at this is 80% exterior acrylic latex with colorant and proper aggregate mix from same company as they have moved out of NE. and could care less on customer service calls.
I like it because it dropped heating, cooling & noise by 75%.
Picketed to death by CA birds in Midwest. Thanks!

The bonding agent allows you to stucco over the painted surface. I think if you are doing a color coat you need to dilute the bonding agent to avoid cracking, but if you are doing a brown over the paint you go full strength with the bonding agent. Please feel free to correct me!

    8:11 Hurricanes in Kansas?
No, tornados and no one does shutters here in Kansas because shutters wouldn't help much against a tornado, especially when a pickup truck gets tossed through a wall of the house :-0) LOL~~~ Hurricanes can toss small debris and cause flooding but a tornado can completely level a house on its foundation. (Concrete, Stone, and Stucco houses have a better chance of surviving one though. Doubtful a tossed pickup would even make it through the 2 foot think stone walls of my house (lathe and stucco interior walls - except the newer addition that was already there when I bought the house).

@@StuccoPlastering Its not as scary as it sounds.
You usually get some warning (enough that you could even leave home during the storm) but - either way, getting your house hit is like a person's odds of getting hit by lightning in any thunderstorm.
Much like in CA you could get killed in an earthquake but you don't ponder on that.

    • @stevenprice4969
      @stevenprice4969 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You could depending on your skill level. Try it on a hollow which isn’t in a very obvious place. If when it’s dry you’ve managed to blend it in and make it look better than it did before, carry on doing the rest. If you leave scarring and it ends up looking worse then leave the hollows as they are. But as above make sure you try it on a very obscure hollow first. Hope this helps 👍🏼 plasterer from the UK

@Night Dipper > It is too bad someone gave you that impression as concrete is porous as it gets sealed if on your drive. But on the walls of a house, it is a wick that draws up moisture and holds onto it. In the Midwest, like Nebraska. No one uses concrete stucco!
Our contractors consider moving the dew point closer to the outside of the wall. So, they start with a house wrap, then 2" extruded polystyrene (Pink) because it's waterproof. When shaved flat, it get a wire brush scratch. The EIFS grade 1" 2 foot X 4 foot panels are notched troweled virtually to allow moisture a place place to run down and out. Then the surface is sanded flat, tiny gaps filled, the a drywall hopper is used to spray the finish on it. To increase the bond, a magnesium trowel is used to push into the expanded EIFS grade board (EIFS board when broken, has less that 92-96% of beads come loose. The 4-8% are broken in half showing non-recycled polystyrene only virgin).
Once sprayed or troweled, any desired texture can be created, depending on the aggregate used in the mix! I has 100% exterior latex resins and colorants mixed in so it is not concrete color, but more like house paint except with marble dust ground to equal sizes is apply. Ours has a 2% fade warranty in 20 years and out house is not small, but Yellow field and dark chocolate trim boards. The fiberglass mesh is stapled on the edges of doors, windows, bottom edges and soffit. Backer rod is added to gaps evenly then covered with build sealant, not caulking.
Building sealant comes in colors, but 300% more flexible than improvement store caulking. No water intrusion, no moisture, no noise and utilities reduced by 70%.

@@StuccoPlastering I have worked next to automotive repair techs that took short cuts as well. They constantly diagnosed the symptom and not the root cause. It always bit them in the behind.
This is true in any industry as our grocery store get food, photos of what to do, containers and price stickers. So if they could get the lid off, they could sell coleslaw! Prior to Nash-Finch, they made it their in house.
It depends if additives where added to powdered material, not over watered, then troweled on the correct thickness. Commonly guys throw away instructions then can't figure out why if failed 3 years later.
Fiberglass for boats is mixed with polyester resins. This is fine if the boat doesn't sit in the water year round as vinyl ester resin (Pink) is used. The difference is the pink does not contain high amounts of amino acids. This attracts water thru the gelcoat and bubble up & delaminate. So you are right, either by additive or pre-mix water resistant chemicals.
