Very interesting, Ian. I don't get to travel much, so seeing this was quite fascinating. Can't imagine the kind of person who picks up a 50yr old Fettercairn on a whim while passing through Heathrow, but I am but a poor working man, so what do I know? Now a Dalmore with 5 different finishes, that's more like it....NOT! I think you were spot on with the Glenfiddichs being among the most interesting options on display there. Thanks for sharing!
this made me laugh Sascha - very true. Hopefully one day we'll be able to swan through and pick up some 50Y/O juice, but until then the 'Fiddich works wonders. sláinte
I love the comparison commentary here. I often feel like many things we can get in travel retail are a captive audience buy that we may want because we can't get it elsewhere and then we are disappointed when we get home. Thankfully not all. And for Americans, there are lots of things we don't get here that you can get in the UK stores which are also in travel retail. (Laphroaig PX remains a staple buy for me, as well as The Chita, neither available in the US.) I also think the name Travel Retail is a better name because as you pointed out, not really duty free. We can bring 1 liter duty free back to the US. I paid taxes after this last trip and it wasn't bad, so I don't let that stop me. But I do think it is better to think about these stores as a way to get things you can't get elsewhere, and also as a way to get extra bottles that didn't fit in your luggage legally on the plane. This is why I find these videos helpful, because it can help you decide what to buy and pack and what to wait to get when you are on the way home. Really excellent, Ian! Please keep doing these!
Awesome video, thanks so much! I am going to do something similar, fly to London, then train to Edinburgh, do you know if you can shop in the duty free on arrival to LHR?
Thanks for watching Orlando! I think it depends on where you’re flying from in honesty but you should be able to get some great stuff one end or the other 🥃🥃
Excellent vid, thanks for sharing. I for one, like the exclusivity that the travel retail editions bring, even if they are NAS. The Glenfiddich options look phenomenal, I'll prioritise them for a future U.S trip. Slainte mate! Best wishes from South Africa.
sorry Brendan, I completely missed this comment. thanks for tuning in and so glad to hear that you're enjoying the content! I agree completely about the exclusivity and believe there are some great options in SA duty free. happy shopping my friend, sláinte!
Selections can change relatively frequently but there’s normally a few gems to be found. Anything that you keep your eyes open for in particular when travelling?
Why did you post a very old video? When was this recorded? The Travel exclusives currently available are not the ones on this video! The Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition has been out of stock for more than a month. But they now have the Cote Rotie edition in stock Great prices on all Ardbeg Expressions.
It’s not that old Dileep, we’ve just been busy filming a lot of content these past few months so getting it edited and uploaded has taken a minute. Don’t worry, we’ll head back to duty free again for more updates
Have been doing a lot of travelling and whisky hunting over the past 2 years and duty-free has been getting progressively worse. My rule of thumb these days is, if it's in duty-free, then its probably not a great whisky and over priced.
Silly money just doesn't come close. In supermarkets in resort areas of the Japan Alps, supermarkets will carry imported whisky up to Stg.150. A bottle of Bowmore 12 will retail for around 6,000 yen, say Stg.31.50. All about rate of duty and exchange rate. Bottom line, Duty Free; keep walking. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
@@TheWhiskyBaron every time i go into duty free, nothing i like... i can buy better on the internet... very rarely i see anything worth buying in duty free...and sometimes its more expensive than what i can find on the internet
Best duty free video I’ve seen to be honest 👏
thanks Joe! we have more of these Enthusiast episodes coming soon so let us know if there's anything you'd like to see Ian explore. sláinte
Thanks Joe 🎉
we need more videos like this! but would like to see more bottles & their prices
Thanks for the comment Mao Mao, we’ll be sure to get Ian on the job!
Hopefully back again soon! 🎉
Great video! Interesting analysis at the end regarding the duty free market strategy
Thanks for watching Sergio - we’ll be sure to head back to Duty Free again soon for some more content. Sláinte
An ever changing market so we will do another for sure 😮

My pleasure! There are still gems, but hidden amongst a sea of guff sadly 😢
The way you say Dewars is hilarious 😂😂
Agreed!

shame to hear that - I appreciate your point but I do think there are some decent gems to be found. where do you do your whisky shopping?
@@TheWhiskyBaron I hunt for dusty bottles around the US. Recently, found 2 x Deanston 10 PX for around $65 each and a craigellachie 23 for $270 USD.
