    Thanks for discussing this. Most TH-camrs when going over a bait only talk about weights, trailers, rod, reel, and line size, but never talk about how to actually fish a lure.

    I always hear people talking about the chatterbait but I can’t ever catch any fish with it….until today. I changed my retrieve from a steady retrieve to the hop and reel the drag you discussed in the video. Just like that….fish on!!

    I just fished a chatter bait for the first time ever during an outing at my public lake in a park. I was on the bank and I actually used the technique you first mentioned where you pull with the rod tip and reel in the slack. I just happened to see your video this evening and l thought it was funny how you mentioned that. Before the only other way I knew to fish it was to jerk pause and or just slow roll it. Thanks for the awsome tips Randy. I’ve watched a TON of videos. Also, hello from a fellow Missourian! I’m in Jeff City.

    Thank you for discussing the retrieve. I am a new angler and watch a lot of TH-cam videos. I see TH-camrs catch a ton of fish on chatterbaits, but I can't get a bite on them. The retrieve is the biggest peice of the puzzle that they don't spend a lot of time on. Thank you!!!

    enjoy your channel and your input, been watching it for a long time, but I watch it every day on my TV and I can't comment, so I'm using my phone to make comments, keep up your great work it's very helpful for me as a kayak fisherman. it's harder to do big lakes from a kayak, so I'm using your advice to help me eliminate spots that aren't really productive. so thanks again buddy 👍.

    Adding a pulse to your slow rolling helps too. I prefer to sweep my rod three or four inches at a time, but you can just reel faster for a few seconds then return to your slow retrieve.

    I've had luck burning it so fast it's more of a wake bait. With the right trailer it will have enough lift to stay just below the surface and create disturbance on top the water. I've even had guys watch me catch em this way and come up to me and ask what topwater I was throwing.

    when would you burn a chatterbait over burning a spinnerbait?

  • @rhmrtrt9672
    @rhmrtrt9672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question. How often, if there are no signs of abrasion, do you need to re-tie your knot? Can you keep the same knot for over a day? week? Also, when you put your rod up, you put the lure on the lure keeper on the pole, at the tip the line bends. Do we need to cut off the bend in the line? or is it ok to leave it on the line and fish? I have fished for years, and have always wondered.

    • @rhmrtrt9672
      @rhmrtrt9672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Shenk Fishing Say you go fishing 2 days in a row. On the 2nd day, if there is no damage to the line above the knot, and no apparent damage to the knot, do I have to retie, or is the nondamaged knot ok to keep fishing. And if so, how many days of out of the sun storage can you go before retying? A week? Longer? Thanks

    • @greghammett7894
      @greghammett7894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rhmrtrt9672 it takes 30 seconds to tie a new knot. Do you want to break off the fish of a lifetime because you didn't retie? I retie new knots every trip and sometimes multiple times on trips if line has abrasion, or I caught a lot of fish, or I was hung up...etc. Totally worth it to me to take the 30 sec.
      Edit: if I'm fishing straight heavy braided line with no obvious abrasions, I might not retie. Braid is so strong

    It's not even that I don't catch anything on the chatter. The entire bait is whacked! Like the pull is nonsense. The trailers don't kick well....the hooks are too thick and too long, except minis....head designs are trash. Shirts are useless....rides high....what more should I say?
