According to the book “I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action”, Stallone had at one point asked Jackie to play the villain role that ultimately went to Wesley Snipes (at the time Jackie was coerced by his manager, Willie Chan, to give the States another go despite his four disastrous attempts about a decade earlier). +Oliver Harper lol I should've known. Your videos are great. As I was watching this one it made me think about the Blade movies. I'll look through your videos and find it. Thanks.
What makes this movie great is how eerily prescient it was in satirizing certain elements of authoritarianism which we are STILL heading towards today! I watch this movie at least once every couple of years and frankly it almost frightens me how spot on some of it still is. In fact I think it’s more relevant now than ever! If it weren’t for the satirical tongue in cheekiness of it all, I think it would be almost uncomfortable to watch. Thankfully the humor still works quite well.
A great review. I think you really hit on the perfect integration of production facts and history and talking about the film itself. I've often thought you sometimes spend a little too much time going into the film's narrative too thoroughly but I think you found a great balance of all the elements with this review. I remember when this film came out Sandra Bullock was just huge!

What an amazing film ! One of Sly's best, he gives a great performance there, to me he truly was at the top of his game. One of his last great films (with other greats at the time like Cliffhanger and The Specialist). While I loved Snipes in this one, I can't help but imagine how awesome it could have been with Schwarzenegger in the role. Oh and Elliot Goldenthal's score truly gave this one a unique edge. Steller video Oliver! Love it. Your take on the movie has put it in a new light for me, it really is a good commentary on how things could go, or here in America, are going. Class division, nobody wanting to get their hands clean by dealing with defective societal rejects, less freedom and more "safety" can lead to blandness. Thanks for the great video.

another fab retrospective, Oliver! My favorite sequence is still when Phoenix goes to the museum- love that whole bit. Trivia- did you know Bullock and a few of the other uppercity dwellers had very light facial prosthetics done to smooth lines and make their features more symmetrical and tranquil looking? (most noticeable on Bullock)
Great movie. First time Stallone sports his black beret and Wesley Snipes proved to film producers that he could fight (actually I do believe that without this movie , Blade would have never happened).
The one thing I wondered about this movie, So there was a quake destroying part of the west cost and they create a new society. Are the laws and way of life only for "San Angeles"? What happened to the rest of the country?
Glad its not just me. I actually watched it again last night. Phoenix steals, apparently the last weapon ever produced. So that make it seem like its not just San Angeles. Why would the entire world society change and not longer produce weapons because of an earthquake in CA? I know I'm over thinking a Stallone movie but...
Sandra Bullock is still hot as hell but she's at her hottest right here!

Top review Ollie. You know I don't ever recall seeing the Pizza Hut recut edit, I had the movie on vhs back in the day, not to mention the numerous times I've watched it on tv and it was always Taco Bell....weird.
Likewise Rob, everytime I have watched the movie it's always been Taco Bell.
06:33 Microchip implant being scanned Oliver, how'd you miss that in your future tech is now here portion :O
16:58 Theres also the retina and palm/finger print scanner and automation with computers in our homes, Siri like.
Major props for the mention of Bill Hicks being ripped off by Leary. Love your videos, keep up the awesome work.
This is such a great quality channel. Only recently discovered it
Remember watching it at the cinema as a teen, my jaw hit the floor on the opening scene when the stuntman bungee jumps out of the helicopter, amazing.
How do you use the 3 Sea-Shells?
'Mellow greetings what seems to be your boggle?'
'My Boggle?'
This movie predicted Arnold Schwarzenegger getting into politics, more specifically being president. Close enough and very cool. :)
It could still happen but it's unlikely. If they did change the laws, I'm certain he'd win though.
Brilliant mix of action and humor and very original. The 90s.
Thanks always wondered how the three sea shells worked .
Oliver, you should do a review of Cobra.
This is one of your best. You pack so much into 20 mins
I always believed the seashells gag was funniest if left unexplained
This was not a sci fi movie. It was a prophecy.
Awesome review, Oliver!!!!! This is one of my favorite action films from the '90's. In fact, I still have the Taco Bell movie poster and the Sega CD game at my parents house. You forgot to mention though that this was also one of Benjamin Bratt's first roles. Thanks again for uploading this and I'm looking forward t your next review!!!!! :-)
My absolute favorite movie of my entire youth. An awesome flick!
Always saw this as a twin piece to last action hero
Best "game over" screen ever!
i had such a thing for sandra bullock during her earlier movies today not so much
5:13 i watched the at the cinema when it came out and got the VHS on release , and it was'nt changed to pizza hut ?
Loving this channel!
I didn't realize that Demolition Man and Last Action Hero both cost and made the same amt of money. It is interesting how Hero is considered a bust.
Outside of the Rocky films, this is one of my favorite Stallone films.
Yeah, Rocky, Rambo and Demolition Man. Top 3 Sly movies for me.
I had a debilitating crush on SB watching this movie in '93.
This movie has aged very well.
hehe I remember seeing this with my dad many years ago and we both had a laugh at the sea shells.. Of course coming christmas he got me 3 sea shells as a present.. still got them to this day haha
Ikr...how were they used? Inquiring minds want to know
@@alisterfolson Water jets to cleanse.
This movie predicted the future.
I prefer your editing to most movie trailers. Always impressive.
Using Sea Shells after Taco Bell would be rough because everyone knows Taco Bell = Diarrhea.
TheWilder30 That's why you use the second seashell twice.
What under the Light is Taco Bell anyway?
I used to always confuse this for Judge Dredd as a child. The same applies for Total Recall and The 6th Day.
Love your reviews Olli, keep them coming!
another fab retrospective, Oliver! My favorite sequence is still when Phoenix goes to the museum- love that whole bit. Trivia- did you know Bullock and a few of the other uppercity dwellers had very light facial prosthetics done to smooth lines and make their features more symmetrical and tranquil looking? (most noticeable on Bullock)
lol- I have no idea! But her lips in Gravity kindof freaked me out! O_o
*shudder*
Demolition Man is a cautionary tale for today’s society.
The "sea shells" are handels that operate the toilet bidet. ;)
i always through the three seashells were three buttons, like one for water, one for air, one for soap
They're still shoveling VR down our throats, which is crazy! 😂
What happened to the rest of the country?
always wondered the same bro
Glad its not just me. I actually watched it again last night. Phoenix steals, apparently the last weapon ever produced. So that make it seem like its not just San Angeles. Why would the entire world society change and not longer produce weapons because of an earthquake in CA? I know I'm over thinking a Stallone movie but...
its like they missed a bit where they said everythign outside of the super city state was a waste land
If Taco Bell becomes the primary restaurant of the wirld, then we are all screwed. And so would be the world's plumbing. lol
It's all part of a conspiracy involving Taco Bell, Charmin, and American Standard...
