Tuned Alfa Romeo 4C - One Take

  • The Alfa 4C enjoys moderate sales success here in the US, and, while polarizing, is unquestionably a driver's car. This one has a "Stage 1" ECU tune by Euro Compulsion making an extra 30 HP and 50 lb/ft over stock. Does the Alfa's little 1.7L four-banger take a liking to a bit more boost?

    My dad just bought one of these ~3 days ago. It is a BLAST to drive, and basically like a 3/4-sized supercar. His is highly optioned and lighter than most with extra sections of carbon fiber, the much better looking and larger wheels, and basically feels like a street-legal racecar. He can't go anywhere without people staring and taking pics, LOL.

    i hate getting stuck behind a slow driver on a one-lane road too, but do you really expect people to pull over for you just because you flash your lights at them?

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว +127

      +David Liu Yes, I do. It's the polite thing to do, and it's exactly what I do when a faster car approaches me from behind. These roads are miles and miles in between legal passing zones. You should be attentive in your mirror and if someone wants to pass, pull over and let them pass. It's literally 3 seconds delay for you, and you can be on your way.

    • @TheReapersSon
      @TheReapersSon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      +David Liu It's actually the correct method of utilizing high beams when not illuminating the road. In the manuals of most cars, the beams will be labeled as "flash to PASS" when pulling the high beam / turn signal toward you. It's expected road etiquette that unfortunately is lost on the majority of the public because we don't require drivers to study their driving basics handbook each time they renew their licenses. Also the reason why people think turn signals are optional when changing lanes.
      You will notice in Germany, for example, when people drive on the Autobahn, flashing to pass is commonplace.

      ***** You're not a police officer. It's not your job to enforce the rules.
      Plenty of people in the canyons screwing with their phones or just taking their own sweet time on the road. Plenty of assholes going over the double yellow as well just because they're too stupid to take a corner properly in their 5000 pound piece of shit SUV. You're the reason why people get pissed.
      You see someone pull up, have some common courtesy and let them pass. That's the bottom line. You want to be an asshole and drive under the speed limit or impede traffic be my guess. Don't get pissed when the blow by you in a passing zone. Just let faster traffic by and be on your bloody way.

    +TheSmokingTire Matt I find the lower grip limits you mentioned to be spot on crucial on this segment of cars, not a top speed high HP car, but more about scares per mile type of car, like you said, boost and all hell breaks loose.. For fun at any speed that's what you need IMHO. You get used to speed and HP real quick, and find yourself wanting more and more, but a "slower" thrilling/scarier car even at 60mph that's where I found fun for years... but to each his own for sure. PS. Perhaps a slower and curvier road would best suit the car, but I'm sure you make your very best with what we pay for this FREE content. Keep it up!!

Identical lap time numbers. Also, PDK. They're also basically the same price, if not, the Cayman S is probably cheaper.

    Very nice car. 280 doesn't sound that much, but maybe he said wheel power, and the way it moved on the video seems it will be pretty satisfactory for me. The analog feel of the steering and the nahdling of the car, the middle engine , the weight power ratio- awesome car for this canyon. What I like more is the guy with this car dailies a Tesla, which is another car I like very much for a daily. It is pretty fast, most likely handles very nice and runs for free with all the displays and toys. Congrats to the guy owning these two cars.

    Sometimes a "good sounding car " it's just a template sound, this may not be the absolute best but at least it's a recognisable one. Where I live a guy owns a 4c and he sometimes drives in front of my house at 1/2 AM so,when I'm in my bed already but not sleeping yet,so when I hear that sound emerging from the quiet night I can really tell it's him.

    I think that Civic, like most people you catch on the canyons, they're trying to let you pass when they stay at the right most part of the lane (2:17). I think people usually don't have the time or effort in them to stop and go in the dirt just to let someone pass imo.

    • @robbiehernandez8019
      @robbiehernandez8019 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bolek989 But when there is someone that is trying to go faster than you it is courteous to slow down and get over and let them pass no harm done.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Bolek989 People should be aware of their surroundings. People should know what's in their mirror. I'm not tailgating, I'm not honking, I'm not running them off the road. I give a few flashes to let them know I want to pass, and then I complain to the camera, not to them. I am very courteous towards other drivers. But if you're going to drive up there, you need to have situational awareness, which includes knowing you're holding people up in a miles-long no passing zone. If someone fast comes up behind me, I move over and let them by. That's the courteous thing to do.

      I think it is. I have a 4C and a Lotus 211 with a dry sumped BOE long rod 2ZZ and a Quaife transmission. That motor is killer, but the Alfa is a more complete road car than an Exige IMHO. But both are cool.

    Not nice to flash high beams on anyone. Regardless, it is illegal to impede the flow of traffic, and no citizen has the right to judge whether someone is going a correct speed or not. Even on freeways, there's white signs that say, "slower traffic move right." On a two lane, using an available turnout is the nice thing to do.

    • @skylergabriele6445
      @skylergabriele6445 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have always been light sensitive so possibly I'm the only one irritated by a burst of light in my eyes while driving. In the States, especially truckers, quickly turn lights on then off (no highbeams) to indicate clear-to-pass. Cheers to you, Sir.
