      She should have been paid equally to Matt Smith from the start. I knew her prior to taking the role. She was in Wolf Hall where she portrayed Ann Boleyn and she did a wonderful job in that. And Woman Talking as Salome. This is just ridiculous that the pay disparity continues!

      Buts it's not about that. You pay people in shows and movies not for their role but for their drawing power. I only started watching The Crown because I saw Matt Smith was in it but since then I've started to pay attention to the roles Claire Foy is picking up to see if any of them interest me. This wasn't about gender.

      Its all about contracting and drawing power. Claire Foye WAS newer in the acting scene, while Matt Smith has been a draw for decades. Matt Smith has the power to ask for more money in his contracts due to his star power. Claire Foye will be able to do so too once she has more experience under her belt.

    Edward Milward only died in April 2020 and lived to see his portrayal on screen. Both of Tommy Lascelles' real life daughters were also still alive when the show first aired - one died on November 3rd 2020 and the other is still alive aged 95. They would have seen Pip Torrens bring their father (who in reality died in 1981) to life on screen and I wonder what they thought of it.
    And without spoiling too much, Season 5 has a lot of cameos, probably because it was intended to be the final run.
    There are also references to modern events and pop culture peppered throughout the series. Season 5 has a direct reference to the modern Ukraine war, even talked about how Russia is faltering and not doing too well as Yeltsin shakes off the last of communism (it's an obvious nod to Putin's Russia getting rekt).

    I think Matts gender had nothing to do with his being paid more. He was paid more because he’s popular and would draw in views. Everyone knows Doctor Who, he’s an accredited actor and led a successful series for 2 seasons. Many people ( especially us here in America) had to be introduced to who Clair Foy was. To think that it’s offensive that he was paid slightly more is wild. Imagine paying a new teacher the same price as one who’s been teacher for years. Like any career , you work your way up when it comes to pay.

      Season 5 ends with Blair being elected and Britannia being decommissioned, but with Diana still alive. There is a bit of licence because, in reality, Britannia was finally axed in December 1997 after Diana had died.
      They've already cast an adult William and a Kate Middleton for Season 6, so that's 2001 when they went to university. The show will probably cover 9/11, it'll definitely cover the deaths of Margaret and the Queen Mother, then probably the Golden Jubilee the same year seeing as a Season 5 episode mentioned that specifically.
      I don't think there's much of note after that within a reasonable timeframe, so the summer of 2002 is probably a good time to wrap it up.

    Not the "uncomfortable" corset narrative again, please (8:59). It isn't the most pressing of matters, but still, annoys me. A corset is only uncomfortable when isn't cut properly, it's supposed to fit the body, not the other way around, and that's why it must be tailor-made. A corset can't be taken off a rack, or worn without the proper garments, or shaped poorly for aesthetic reasons, of course it'll hurt otherwise. Unfortunately that's exactly what they do for most TV and film productions, but that's hardly the corset's fault.

    • @rachelgarber1423
      @rachelgarber1423 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I remember reading something about one actress, not sure who it was, who refused to wear a corset for her role in a period piece, and how poorly fit her costume looked in the movie. I’d say Kiera Knightly in Pride and Prejudice but I’m not sure. Whoever it was, get over yourself

    • @EveningSoother
      @EveningSoother ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rachelgarber1423 Oh, several actors became vocal about this at a certain point, and whilst probably a slice of their grievance was tied to the (inaccurate) representation of the corset as a misogynistic tool, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to wear horrible corsets on set. As I mentioned, designing ill-fitted corsets to save money, to push those tatas out, and so on, is pretty standard for the industry. Having those things with no undergarments on, pressed directly on the skin for hours and hours at times I'm sure is nightmarish. They were right to get mad, but they should have aimed at the costume designers' head, not the corsets.

Even if Tom Holland was not famous than Zendaya at the time of casting, would zendaya get a higher salary in a movie like spiderman. People should be paid for the part they play in a movie.
